I'm sorry for the screen flicker, I'm investigating the issue. Shouldn't happen again! 😅
Great content, I'm sure you'll find an audience here. A little advice, perhaps just crop the top dozen or so pixels off the finished video to deal with that flicker. It's pretty distracting in the time lapses.
@@RyanTaylor-pi8gq is that possible to do on youtube? Trust me, I hated that it came out with the flicker so if I could just edit it in UA-cam that would be wonderful! Thanks for the idea!
@@MatsukawaZaraki No, I believe you'll need a video editing software for it, but most should support it. Search your video editing software and 'crop and resize video' and in the resize phase, make the finished video 1920x1080, or whatever aspect ratio you're looking for. It's a few steps, and varies between softwares, but many should let you do it.
Gotcha. Weird thing was, in my editing program it was fine, and then after uploading to youtube and as it premiered, I realized there was an issue. For some reason, my videos keep randomly getting glitches like that and it's very weird. I use Davinci Resolve Studio so it shouldn't be an issue there. Very weird, but I'll keep investigating, thanks again!
❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊go job Mr,Zaraki and Mayor,
Thanks! Great channel you have too!
question,.... is it possible to use a vacuum cleaner from bissel, kärcher or other producers,.. who has a extra water tank so they first spray and afterwards suck it,.... i think this would be more efficient for the tatami mats and even cleans more deeply
possibly, but you have to be extremely careful how far the moisture seeps into the mats. You want to keep mold and mildew away at all costs.
You can really see the life coming back into the house with your care 😊
Trying hard!
its so much better when its clean
@@clementdetruche3764 absolutely!

@@jeanbonner2451 thank you so much Jean 🥰 Lots of work, but all for a good cause!
Thank you for what you are doing! You continue to inspirer me to return to my small home in Goto Japan and make the property look like it once did many years ago. I have so many plans and your videos are exactly what I need to motivate me, thank you again! Brian.
@@modslot that makes me happy Brian! I really hope i can continue to motivate you to make your home exactly how you wish! You can do it!
Keep at it Boss. The fruits of your labor are starting to show up. Btw, wrestling? In FL? Well if you were in the local circuits up in NEFL over the years you might know one of my buds. Does a lot of the promo art work for the wrestlers. A possible small world, eh?
Back when I trained, I did it with a promotion called FIP. Became friends with New Jack there, and they've had lots of big names come through there. Even Brian Danielson started his early career there. I've been a fan since I was 8, but I've gotten away from it just from lack of time to actually sit down and watch it, and also not really being interested in most of the storylines these days. I tend to more watch the podcasts, stories, and behind the scenes stuff from back in the day anymore.
I love cleaning! Ever thought about using a power steamer? Maybe a shop vac helps?
I do and I don't lol. I like the before and after, but not the during hahaha. Definitely could use a steamer, but you have to be careful with tatami mate and moisture, so a steamer wouldn't work well for them, but I bet it could help with the hard wood areas.
Matt, If you're still fighting the surface floaters: I use two 5 gallon buckets with 1/4" wire mesh stuck between the two of them. Inside bucket (#1) has the bottom cut out to allow water to flow down through the mesh, and the exterior bucket (#2) has holes drilled through the bottom and around the sides near the bottom for draining. I use this system for cleaning all the leaf drops into my pond once a year. I'm flipping out the muck like you do, let it dry, and then move it to a final pile in the garden.
I really appreciate all of the ideas and info you share! At this time, I was working with very limited time and tools. The good thing is that I have plenty of time to plan out the future work now that I've had time to get hands and eyes on the property.
@@MatsukawaZaraki - I figure I'd just suggest the tool I believe you could access quickly from your local hardware store versus what can be shipped around the states.
Absolutely! The whole area is eventually going to need a pretty big reconstruction, so tools like those will be super helpful to keep things efficient ☺️
Looking good. Hopefully you can move in soon!
@@cocolenchojapan thanks! Hopefully we'll be there full time by mid to late summer 😊
Hello. plant research for you: the "strawberrirs" could be Potentilla hebiichigo or Potentilla indica - both labeled as a mock strawberry; low flavor, but edible 12:47 yellow butterfly on Pokeweed plants, and I believe your smaller white petaled plants in the background are Japanese fleabane, Eschenbachia japonica. At least the nice part about common weeds is that they are near universal across the planet, or at least where humans roam now a days. The more you keep clearing, the more the sleeping layers of field reforming (disturbed soil) seeds will wake up over the years. Your mountain stream trail: I'd cut one along the bank as a primary trail for getting to the waterfall and allowing the river cleaning crews somewhere to walk instead of cutting a path you may not agree with while you are not there - like how the shed was lost for the bigger clearing equipment path. Happy cultivating and restoring.
Thanks for the info! Pokeweed...just can't escape that stuff 😂
Can you answer where exactly are you? Every time you talk about hoping and wanting more people to come you never seem to mention the place by name or what prefecture its in. Also can you discuss your plans for your visa some. Are you planning to do the Start up Business Manager visa they just expanded to all of Japan or is it some other visa you qualify for?
I'm in Ichinoseki, in Iwate prefecture. I actually mention it in the first 20 seconds of this video, and have mentioned it in multiple others as well as putting the village name in thumbnails. I'll be putting out a detailed video on visas soon, and yes, I will be taking advantage of the startup and business managers visa. Thanks for following along!
man... i hope this blows up this is really good. ^^)
Thanks, I'm working on it! 💪
You should look into getting the house rewired since it all appears to be the old knob and tube (fire hazard). Should be able to have the whole house rewired for ~2-4k US, and double that if you want the breaker box redone. It is significantly less than rewiring a house in the US lol. For hot water heater, yes they are expensive, you could opt for a solar water heater if you don't want the electric cost.
Yes, I absolutely will be getting the home rewired as well as replace the breaker box.
Go with the traditional methods of restoring your woods, like charring, persimmon oil, tung oil, perilla etc... please don't go with varnish/acrylic/epoxy
Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping to find the most natural coatings that were originally used so I'm doing all of the research first before I get deep into it
That's a lot of work, but so much worth it. The house looks beautiful. I live in a small apartment with paper doors (fusuma), and my daughter makes a hole in them lol.
I can't imagine trying to keep fusuma doors pristine with a little one running around. 😄

Hello. The USA Veterans Affairs cem.va.gov - cleaning government furnished headstones and markers: "If the headstone or marker displays biological growth (algae, mildew, moss, lichens), water with a product formulated for cleaning these growths may be required. Examples include: Prosoco ReVive, Cathedral Stone Bio-Cleaner, Wet and Forget, and D/2 Biological Solution.*" The whole page has guidelines for restoring marble, granite, and other stone surfaces.
Thanks so much for the info!!
Couldnt you use pigs to clear out under the trees etc ?
I'm sure you could, you'd just have to be careful and make sure they were fenced in properly.
If you want you can use kakishibu to seal wood, the more passes the darker the stain. It's a tannin dye from the kaki fruit, basically fermented kaki juice, it's a bit stinky for a couple of days but I believe you can find some nowadays that doesn't smell too bad
@@mattiapede yes, I'm hoping to find the most natural coatings and what was originally used in the period this was built. Thanks for the tip!
You cannot stay here at night and cannot clean it at night. Because dangerous. Night cannot
There is a Japanese concept called Wabi Sabi, beauty in decay.
It is a wonderful aesthetic philosophy that promotes people to appreciate the beauty of imperfection, and simplicity. My goal here isn't to fully restore these areas, but to keep them from being lost due to neglect. The entire community has talked about cleaning up this area long before I moved here, and the mayor said that it was a personal goal of his to see it cleaned up before he died, so I'm just trying to take a little action and get the ball rolling so I can help fulfill that dream with him.
oh man, those crisp warm mornings are priceless ❤
@@JP503 you got that right!
Man you’re living my dream. I’ve been planning to get an akiya and make the restoration a life project. I love Iwate, I would definitely love to come back and live there again. I lived a total of 6 years in both Morioka and Kitakami which are north of Ichinoseki. Enjoy beautiful Iwate and be careful with the bears around the house. By the way, most of my videos are made in Iwate which was my first home when I came in 2015.
It's a great goal! I hope we see you here someday! Thanks for checking out the channel!
Maybe check out what folks use when cleaning headstones, they have to carry everything so might help. Very cool project in general.
I think a low powered pressure washer would be perfect honestly, that way no chemicals needed.
Buddhism originated in India then migrated through China to Japan. Probably shouldn't have used any kind of chemical cleaner because of runoff... even minute amounts can be harmful to wildlife and plants. Plain water and a bucket with elbow grease. Better yet forgo the brush and take your power washer and a portable power bank in a wheelbarrow or cart. The effect of any chemical cleaner on rock is unknown so probably best not to take chances with cultural artifacts. Then you rinsed the brush in the stream..... Yeah I know, kinda late now. I understand your exuberance to save Japanese culture and fix all the problems in this village but please give these things more thought and use the Japanese method of much contemplation and little action. Did you wonder why the Mayor and people of the town didn't clean those? They have plenty of time... they were likely considering how to do so safely without any chance of negative repercussions. You do have a lot to learn about Japanese culture.
@@justme-n-gracie I was using a cleaner that is supposedly eco friendly, I wasn't using anything harsh. I'm working on learning the history better too, and I'm humble enough to show people that I'm not perfect either, unlike most creators that cut all of their flaws and mistakes out 😂
Looks fun 😊. What are these two giant gravestone looking stones near your property entrance? Google translate couldn't read them.
@@Yngvi_Barran they are plaques that talk about the history of the area and the history of my home. I hope to get them fully translated eventually
