  • Windows NT 4 running on a fast AGP Pentium 4 system, sadly NT 4 didn't recognize Hyperthreading on this Pentium 4
    Specs:
    ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
    Pentium 4 HT 3.4C GHz (Northwood)
    Geforce 6200 AGP
    3com 3c940 gigabit LAN
    Soundmax AC97
    80 GB SATA HDD (4 gb partition for NT 4)

    This is insane, the OS from 1996 can handle 3GB of RAM without problem, while Windows 98 and ME are having problems when you install more than 512MB. That shows how superior was NT over 9x.

    • @jandjp9
      @jandjp9 Рік тому +8

      the 9x kernal was weak and getting unstable year by year so it makes sense

      But it did not support DOS games and applications well or at all. In mid-90's no one had 3GB RAM in his home PC, but they did have lots of DOS games…

      @@iliyaabdollahi6351 Windows NT 4.0 does support drives larger than 4 GB. However, you need to have the boot partition set to 4 GB when installing it. The rest of the drive can be partitioned normally.

      I am very fond of NT4, it was the 1st OS, that introduced me to domain networking and file sharing. Learned more by pissing about with the server and workstation in one night, than i did on my 1st computer course, 20 years ago. NT4 opened the door for me to look at windows XP and 2003 which i later studied. How different things are with windows 2000 and NT4. window 2000s active directory is one very powerful thing.

      during installation you have to Tell NT that its a custom PC, not as a X86 based pc. Once it installs it couldn't give a shit what processor its on, as it doesn't really have plug in play support. its like windows 3.x that way, i know if you put 4 gig of ram in the system, it pisses off the debugging thing in it.

      What you need to do, is when you come to do the installation which the blue screen section, when you select what the System has, like VGA, Keyboard layout, Processor dual or single etc, is set that to custom PC.
