It can run perfectly if he just has the Java kernel installed on the OS. Which is possible with NT versions 4.0.950 and above.

The hardware struggles,Minecraft needs much more CPU power to run smoothly,but the GPU have less VRAM which might struggles on the GPU demands considering GeForce 2 was came out in year 2000,you can find some computers with a better CPU like Pentium III to install NT4.0,updated to SP6,install Java and Minecraft,the last version of the Nvidia driver provides support up to GeForce 6 Series so you can swap a GPU in between.
I know but the point was to run it on slow hardware, any one can run it on fast hw. Also this pc has GeForce 4 mx440. And I did run it on way faster CPU on Athlon 2600+ with Fx5700 ua-cam.com/video/sdmXckLP9E0/v-deo.html

Yes I know minecraft is CPU heavy, and the older versions run slower and too new run slower the best I found is 1.2.5 that is fastest for me. I just did make the vid as people do run it on win 98se but no one did on nt4 and that is even older from 1996 so I did think it would be interesting.
@@dtkraccoon I don't know how 1.4.7 works on your side,this is the only version not resource heavy when I was playing with mods and vanilla customized superflat worlds.
I was using AMD Semphron 1800+ back in the days.
Yes it works I did play with many mods too over 60, I did even try with optifine on nt4 but it was still slower then optifine on 1.2.5 even MagicLauncher does work on nt4 I did also in some of the vids use server and joined from the nt4 client as if you join server its less load on the CPU.

I have a laptop that I bought in july, I had to get the screen fixed already. Not even a week later after the screen was repaired my gpu is now failing, This is supposed to be a gaming laptop too. So explain to me how minecraft is running on a os from 1996 and I need to replace my gpu already...
The Nvidia Geforce MX 440 is from 2002. And the os is from 1996 but it did get updates until 2002 and extended until 2004 so it has the stuff to get mc working.

do i need 3+ghz P4 478 and 256mb agp gpu to properly run 1.12.2 on win xp sp3 with jre8u45
You can use any p3 1ghz and faster with fx 5000s series or later cuz opengl2. P4 will run is fast i think around 60+ fps and I did have better luck with java 8 51
I find it ironic that my only NT 4 system is one of the first to be advertised with and run it, which means no Minecraft for me. Unless someone's figured out how to run it on a dual Pentium Pro with EDO RAM and a 3D-less Matrox Millennium. Lmao. The computer itself is literally as old as the operating system.
Maybe if you did run mc on cpu 0 and opengl emulator on cpu 1 it might work.

Because of Java problem(1.18 needs Java 17),it might need a 64-bit version of Windows..:/
And JE1.17+ will use OpenGL 3.2 core profile which geforce4 MX440 doesn't support it.

install nt4 sp1 update it to sp6a install ie5.5 then install java5 and you will need gpu that can run mc and supports nt4
