I'm still grinding minna no nihongo, Im up to about lesson 34. Thanks for the lessons, here are my notes: LESSON 28: I was laughning while watching a funny show. わらいながらおもしろいばんぐみを見ました Im working part time and studying in universty. アルバイトをやりながら大学で勉強します I was writing a book while I was teaching English. 本を書きながら英語を教えました 教えました＝おしえました I jog every morning before breakfast. 毎朝、ごはんを食べる前にジョギングをしています I do the laundry on Saturdays and sundays 土日はせんたくしています 土日＝どにち＝saturdays and sundays I drank beer every night. 毎晩ビールを飲んでいました 毎晩＝まいばん My sisters apartment is new and it also has a garden. 姉のアパートは新しい、にわもあります。 姉＝あね My crush is kind, beutiful and popular. 好きな人はやさしいし、きれいだし、人気があります 好きな人＝すきなひと 人気＝にんき The company president chose Ms. Garcia. She can speak English, earnest and also has experience. 社長はガルシアさんをえらびました。かのじょは英語が話せるし、ねっしんだし、けいけんもあります。 ねっしん=earnest 社長＝しゃちょう＝company president Would you like to have coffee later? コーヒーでも飲みませんか？ Sorry I have to help my mother and I have to do my report. ごめん、母をてつだうし、レポートをやらなければならない。 It's also near the station. I'll buy this condominium. 駅がらも近いし、このマンションを買います。 近い＝ちかい Why did you choose that condominium? どうしてそのマンションをえらんだんですか It has a gym and it's cheap. Besides it's near the station. ジムがあるし、やすいし、それに駅からも近いです Do you often come to this coffee Shop? よくこのきっさってんに来るんですか。
Sensei, I feel examples in 28-1 are not following the logic of ながら。I think ながら is attached to the verb which comes after while, right? So those sentences should be like below right? 1. おもしろいばんぐみを見ながら わらっていました。(...while watching funny program.) 2. 大学で勉強しながら アラバイトをやります。(..while studying at the university.) 3. 英語をおしえながら 本を書きました。(....while teaching English.)
If you will look at the context of sentences 2 & 3 perhaps can be interchangeable depending on which you would emphasize, while in sentence number 1, we can't laugh first before watching a funny show don't we? (that's if we will focus on English sentence structure) but I really don't know which one sounds more natural for Japanese native speakers. I bet it's sensei Rose's example.

I'm very likely behind you in japanese studies but what about using 時 (とき)？ 眠い(ねむい)ながら運転(うんてん)する時ガムを噛んでいます。When I'm sleepy while driving, I chew gum. (I've just learned this ながら grammar - not sure it works with adjectives also). Best luck.

Yes, you can make the second sentence negative. For example: テレビを見ながら、ご飯を食べません。

Not sure if you still need to know, but "drank" is past tense. Thats why it is "Maiban Biiru wo nonde imashita".
