I made the mistake of not doing any research into kickstarter before I launched my campaign for my children's book last week. Its been 10 days and 12% funded. I feel like my goal of 3,000 sits well with funding I'm going to need. Just wish I put more into it before the launch. Im sure this first campaign will fail but with your video I'll make the necessary changes to bring my book "Yeet the Beet" to life! Thanks for the video and series!

Oh no!! Well I'm sure you'll be so much better prepared for the second one, so much of learning is in trial and error. Best of luck!

Very interesting conversation here too. Coming from a film background I always advise young filmmakers NOT to do indie a go go or kickstarter. There is a clear difference between education and/or children's books fund raising and indie film fund raising. The reason I suggest in film for them not to do it is it gives a clear value of the film. Many times it proves the person has very little money raised. Rob had a overly successful kick starter. I've seen campaigns that have failed and really made a filmmaker or author look bad. I personally would always try to shy away from crowd funding because the proprietary information that is revealed to raise money, isn't always worth it to give away. Its the special sauce.

Hi Mark, Yes, Rob worked so hard to make his kickstarter a big success. He dedicated himself to it 100% for the duration of the campaign. I think that intense focus lent to his success.

@@1MKWilliams If I can expand...I usually give two analogies about kick starter or indie a go go. In football if the coach calls a trick play and it doesn't work they people think the coach is dumb. If the trick play works they call him a genius. A lot of work, practice, and timing go into those plays but sometimes it doesn't work. Those campaigns stick on the internet forever. Film distributors track the campaigns and it gives them the window of what was spent or how it was raise for the movie. I have a feeling book publishers do the same. It brings me to my second point of selling a used car and someone "kicking the tires" to get a lower price. Imagine finding a 57 chevy rotting in the desert. You have it in your head to always fix one up. You, your friends, and family pour sweat equity into the project and its the best it can be. Sweat equity is never considered by buyers. They just see the final product. If they have a window of viewing how you created the project either via finding the car rotting in the desert or money gained via a kick starter, it gives them even more of a reason to kick the tires.

Just curious: how much did you end up spending for the "M is for Money" illustrations? Appreciate the vid.

How do you feel about using KickStarter to fund multiple books at once? I have a series of books and want to fund 3 of them on KickStarter because I feel like it will create several pledging tiers that make sense. I've already had 2 of them illustrated but I need funding for the overall design and printing because I want them to be hard back. And I need to fund illustrations for the third book.

That could be a good option. I don't know anyone who has done that before. The only concern is if people don't know the series at all it could be a big commitment for a series they may or may not enjoy. Best of luck with the series!
