Ufer was before my time, but, gosh, what a beauty.
I was 12, sat with my Dad in those temporary stands in the end of the horseshoe. I remember watched Bob Ufer come into the locker room after we win the game tooting the horn!
One of my most favorite Michigan-Ohio State games...Awesome!!!!
Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!
Love bo schembechler Michigan years bo ball
Michigan used to owned ohio state in football late 1970s
“ BRING home the cookies Millie! Daddy’s coming home!!” Lmao god bless you bob Ufer
Ufer was the biggest homer known to man. It was fun listening to him.
Thanks so much. This was my favorite era of Michigan Football. Was in high school at this time.
Michigan was loaded this year and hearing the great Bob Ufer makes it even better.
I was born in 63 . And yes a great time . I fully understand what you mean.
❤️ woody Hayes & bo schembecler era 10 year war;;
Oh man, great memories!! Go Blue!!!!
i remeber this game michigan had a good team in 1980 and they would cap it off wiht a rose bowl win the schools first win out there since 1965
Bob's horn is the greatest! It's too bad I wasn't born till' '93, I wish I coulda heard ufer call games.
Go Blue!
He was a real treat to learn to, he tell everything about bo schembechler,
The thing is, you always remember he for the insane things he said, like "General Bo--George Patton--Schembechler" or the Michigan Scoring Horn. But when it got down to it, his description of the play by play was fantastic! You could listen to the game and still know every little thing that happened.
After shutouts in the last 3 games, they allowed the buckeyes only 3 points, and in the Rose Bow 6 for Washington. 22 strait quarters allowing no touchdowns.
Might have been the best offensive line UM ever had.
Agreed! In my opinion it was the best backfield UM has ever had! Ricks over 800 yards, Edwards over 900 yards, and Wolfolk over 1,000 yards in ONE SEASON! DAMN! with Anthony Carter and that defense they should have won the National Championship.
Rosebowl champion, to bad they did not playoffs back then
❤️ bo schembecler Michigan 🏈 teams
Good old fashioned big ten football game! That Michigan defense was awesome that year...and i love to hear Ufer at the mic! Go Blue!
Petition the league for 200 yard fields, bring back the 2-3 football scores!!
I was a Junior at UM then. I still see some of the players of the era from time to time. Stan Edwards coaches youth track and I'm a photographer that shoots running. I was also at that last pep rally in October 1981. The other speaker there was Ron Kramer, who just died in the last month. When Ron played for the Lions he used to come over to our house and carry me on his shoulders. I also know Ufer's daughter. Needless to say I get a little emotional when I listen to these old play by plays.
Man, those were the days! Beating the Bucks in Columbus. Can't wait to get back to that. Come on, JH, you know what to do! Work 'em hard! Go Blue!
didnt happen jeff. M got worse. OSU went super-elite.
@@stephaniephillips1949, sad, but true. It's depressing. Oh well, keep working, keep forging ahead. Go Blue!
Nah it did happen. Ohio State got soft. Michigan kicked their butts three years in a row, won 3 straight Big 10 titles and won the national title.
A true defense battle between OSU and Michigan
Love the videos, especially anything that has any piece of Ufer on it. Keep em coming and thanks for posting.
If upsidedownuser is #1, then I am a close #2.
GO BLUE!
Bob never tried to hide his bias
More likely to get a head start on the long drive back to Ann Arbor, made much shorter by the fact that we won and were going to Pasadena. Back when I was in the band, both trips to Columbus were victories (78 and 80) and the OSU fans were actually pretty nice back then- as we were leaving they said "good luck in Pasadena!"
Easily my favorite UM team. I could name thirty players from that team alone who contributed to that season.
Bo schembechler first rosebowl champion team football i think bo schembechler favorite Michigan football team ,john ❤ Johnny wager
❤ 1976,1977 big ten football champion Michigan football team, i wish they showed the Michigan vs michigan state game 1978
I get that alot. Many people usually think I'm 60 or 70.
I've read nearly every book ever written about Michigan football. So I know pretty much all the stories from games and the program before I was born.
Wow, i.love 1970s and 1980s bo schembechler years, love watching 1970s Michigan vs Ohio state football games, I do not remember Kirk Gibson when he was Michigan state
29 year old Nick Saban was here
I don't think I could have gotten used to Ufer's style of calling the games if he was on ABC instead of the radio back in the day😂Nails on the chalkboard😂
The very last game that Bob broadcasted was the 1981 Iowa game. Sad to say the Maize and Blue lost 9-7. But, the halftime show will be remember by all real MEEEEEECHIGAN men the world over.
Correct- the Iowa game next year was the last one he called, I was in the MMB when we spelled out UFER. About this game, the band had to leave the Ohio stadium with something like 6-7 minutes left in the game, and we were going absolutely nuts trying to find out if we had held on to win....
*GO BLUE!!*
On a side note? I'm so very sorry to see that J.J. McCarthy is out for the season with a bad knee. I can only imagine how disappointing it is for J.J.
It's been a bad series of events for the Vikings this year, and it hasn't even started.
I believe it was the Iowa game the next season. But Ufer was too weak to finish the game, I think. The marching band spelled out UFER on the field and he addressed the fans over the stadium speakers one final time. I think he knew he had very few days left.
1981 was Frank Beckman's first season in the booth. He broadcast the smack down of Notre Dame and then handed the microphone over to Ufer during the final minute so he could count down the final seconds. Classy guy.
We lost that game 9 to 7 and a rivalry was born
lol what a barn burner
Yeah, I was only a year old when he died so I never got to hear a live broadcast either.
You're a youngin. I was 14 when he passed.
Who was the wjar announcer??
old bob sounded a little oiled up ..........
Art "I'm banned from the NFL Schlichter"
That's ridiculous. Why didn't you guys stay until the end?
Probably to avoid the wrath of those insane OSU fans.
Darth Vader Bruce ?!??!?! lol.
Oh Ufer, trying to culturally adapt to the times. I guess he had a thing for Sci-Fi and comic books.
Darth Vader Bruce, Dr. StrangeHayes. lol.
@ktownboy50 30
"Johnnie 'Wagler'" - John Wagner, are you stiil out there?
This guy can be described in three words = homer wearing diaper.
Did he cry when he woke up each day?
John Wagner my hero, bo schembechler first rosebowl championship, from royal oak, Michigan
Is that the last time UofM won in Columbus?
no it was 2000
@Fred Jaminson Ohio state football getting a black eye in Ann arbor, Michigan 2019, indy tickets go on sale after the game
