Probie didn't play favorites. He crushed Gretzky in the playoffs in 88 at the Joe. He crossed paths with messier going back to the bench, nary a word was spoken. Moose became a mouse. 😜🤪 Twas a fun night
@@BullyG1 There's no chance in hell that you want a player as high caliber as Mark messier dropping the gloves with a goon like Probert ! The goon wins if he takes one of the other teams best players off the ice with him ! Messier was too smart for that !! 😂
the people saying this is a penalty didn't watch any hockey from the 80s The biggest thing I find crazy to see is the boards and how much softer they have become... those don't move at all lmfao
70s, 80s and 90s hockey was undoubtedly grittier and the boards definitely had less flex, but I think what others are pointing out in this particular play is that Coffey never touched the puck, so even though the hit was clean, it was still Interference. If Coffey had touched the puck, then that's a good hockey hit all day.
Kind of miss the old days of "beat the living shit out of everyone at any time," but the way these guys skate in 2022 it just can't be that way. That's getting called in the NHL. That's at least 2 & 10 in school leagues.
If you’ve ever met guys tram that era most are huge with hands and arms like tree trunks. It was war back then. Still is but different level of hockey.
@@franflanagan7300 - Allowable continuation play as the goalie played it. This play is allowed every time. I stand by my post about the Oilers basically being untouchable.
Always remember hearing that Paul Coffey became such a great skater because his folks put him in skating lessons (mighta been speed skating) with no hockey stick. Anyhoo, this was the hockey I loved 30 years ago, hardly even watch nowadays. Av's 7-0 over Tampa tonight, yikes.
That’s when they let them play. Fun to watch. Even today I see it a lot with kids not wanting to get new upper body gear because the old is well broken in, softer and easier to play in.
lmao you cannot be serious. Fred Cusick, Derek Sanderson, Jackie Edwards, Pat Foley, Dale Tallon, Brian Hayward, Jim Jackson, Mike Haynes and Peter McNab are 20,000 leagues worse than Redmond. Legal or not, I don't care. At least it was entertaining back then.

Your correct. Messier wanted no part of Probert.

@@BullyG1 PAB?
@@PJ2437 Why would he? McSorley was Edmonton's enforcer, not Messier. It's not a hall of fame players job to fight a goon.

Still breaking the laws of the game which were COMPLETELY ignored by the officials. The whole reason I stopped watching this tedious sport.

Great wording
Probert dislikes coffee, prefers 🥃 and coke……🤠
Everybody likes them in that order.
real man
Probert spilled Coffey!
THERE was no puck in the area, rule # 1 is if the puck is long gone, its gotta be either roughing, interference, boarding ,..or something etc
Coffey's shoulder pads are literally carboard. I used to use some like that and loved them but they don't offer much for protection.
Probert payed with his life.
Paid* you n00b
👍 karma is a b*tch.

why isn't that a penalty? Coffee never touched the puck....
Thanks for pointing that out, very funny that he didn't touch it, got nailed, and no penalty.
because it was the 80s my friend lol
This used to be a mans game
What’s a mans?
@@Yambag This was a penalty in the 80s, too. It was called often. Other times, the ref put his whistle away.

Yes Coffey a legend......and Probert is 6 feet under
what the hell...coffey never came close to playing the puck
to me you have to touch the puck first but love Probie lol
Coffee was the man!
Very lucky that wasn't a separated shoulder ,..came close ,
Back then if you were in the area of the puck, you were pretty much fare game. Damnit UA-cam is aging me!!
What you can't check an Oilers player? I know Gretzky was untouchable but Coffey?
Guy needs to play the puck before you hit him. Coffee never touched it.
