One of the best skating defensemen I have ever seen...Coffey, Orr, Niedermayer, Karlsson...if I could skate like these guys, I would rule my weekend warrior games. Agree about Vancouver. And remember Gretzky was a few hours away from signing there as well if it wasn’t for John McCaw’s useless right-hand man screwing everything up.
Coffey was the best defenceman I ever saw play, the man was amazing. I find his career very interesting. He had a chance to win 9 cups (5 with EDM, 2 PITT, 2 DET) but won only 4 due to being dealt by teams just before they won. He also played with the 3 best centremen ever to play the game. Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman.
He also played with Lindros. Yes, he potentially could have won 9 cups, plus the '95 loss with the Wings to the Devils (potentially 10 cups). He was top scorer for the Wings that season (ahead of Yzerman and Federov). He also was mysteriously traded by the Kings to the Wings just before their '93 playoff run to the finals. He might have made the difference for the Kings vs Habs in that series...potentially earning him 11 cups (tied with the Pocket Rocket for most cups).
Paul Coffey, Ray Borque, Nicklas Lidstrom, Brian Leetch, Rob Blake, Chris Pronger, Al MacInnis & Scott Niedermeyer will forever be my favourite defense players. They are my "Mount Rushmore" of All-time NHL Defensemen!

I remember when Detroit traded Paul to Hartford...he was not happy one bit to be going to the Whalers.
Neither was Brendan Shanahan!!
wouldn't that be fun if he did go back and play in 1969 and then we could really see who was better between him and Orr lol
The only thing I remember about paul is him scoring in his own net in the playoffs. Detroit was better off without him
You mean on the down side of his career? Probably...

Hung around way too long. Was useless for the Flyers in 97. Did the flamingo in the finals vs Detroit. That's what I remember about Coffey.
By then he had lost his wheels, which exposed his defensive liabilities. He relied on his offensive prowess in his early years, and when that was gone, well you said it.
Person Of Interest First ballot hall of famer . And in his defense. The Flyers sucked in 97. Once the rest of the NHL figured out Lindros’s weakness (contact) Flyers we’re done.
@@biscuitsforsmut2791 Going to the finals means you suck?
You should do a little more research.
Person Of Interest I’ve witnessed 5 Stanley cup championships here in Pittsburgh. Half of the last Flyer team to win a championship, are dead now.
@@biscuitsforsmut2791 ah, a typical bandwagon fraud Pens fan.
Your building will be empty soon enough after Crosby is done.
We all know the history of your fan base.
bruh moment
Shame Coffey was just shopped around after Pittsburgh just dumped him for no reason! Anybody know why the Pens shipped him out for that trash trade?
Paul Cawfee
Coffey just missed his chances to get a 4th cup with Oilers and a 2nd with Pens
After winning his four Cups, he was in the finals with Detroit in 1995 and with Philadelphia in 1997.
Lids the best . Orr first
The caffeinated Coffey compared to the decaf Coffey
Hmmm. Noticed a trend...Red Wing fans seem to hate him now a days 🤔
You know that when you try and get a player after his prime production years from a successful team that it usually doesn't work out right?
@@richardmyers5732 It worked out great we got Shannahan and that put us over the top for some cup wins
He wasn't too good at defense .
Didnt know Coffey scored 713 points in his first season with the pens
I take coffey over orr .. to easy for me
Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey are the only Defensemen in NHL history to have averaged a point per game for a career during the regular season and playoffs.🇨🇦🏒😉
Coffey tallied point 1,000 in game #770,the fastest in NHL history for a Defenseman. He scores 531 points in the latter 639 games,a decent ratio.🇨🇦🏒😉
The axiom of "The best defense is a great offense," applied to the modus operandi of Paul Douglas Coffey.🇨🇦🏒
