Thank you, Mr. Eliminator. Last summer I rebuilt a 1988 Simplicity Snowblower and, during the one time here in Central Indiana I used it a couple of weeks ago, I didn't understand why it wasn't clearing as well as I thought it should. I recalled that, when reassembling, I guessed at the proper orientation of the augers and, it turns out, I guessed wrong and had them switched.
I especially appreciated your video of the improperly installed augers, as it was easy to compare mine. And I pity that poor soul who ended up with two right-hand augers!
I'm really grateful for your video and you can now call me a subscriber. Know that your video made all the difference for me. Thanks so much.
I did it ! ... after a bunch of “ Wobblie-Pops “ , I flipped the augers by mistake . The shaft popped out of the end bushings ! 🤣🤣
Nice to see we finally got this snowblower back together and running, hard to believe it sat around since 2018 but that is what happens when your business gets so busy eh? Anyways enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next one as usual.
Thanks for watching! And yes this sat since late 2018, over 4 years ago! It came out looking great!
I'm down here on the Texas gulf coast, but I sure enjoy your videos.
Thanks Ben!
Ben i would appreciate it if you checked out my friend Bill in Texas that has a small engine repair channel Guys Playing With Tools great channel just trying to get him to the 1k subscriber mark.
Great video I had seen a video of a guy who was doing his driveway with an MTD 2 stage snowblower and he was complaining about how it wasn't blowing snow that great and leaving trails of snow. I commented on his video and told him his augers were working in reverse, he didn't believe me because he bought it brand new. I'm going to find the posting and send him your awesome video then maybe he'll believe you lol. I totally watch all your videos your to the piont and show every step you take to repair the problem at hand. Keep up the great work we all appreciate it.
Thanks Ken! And yes it may be hard to believe, but I honestly did hear that story of the gentleman who purchased a craftsman new from Sears here in Canada and it had 2 of the same augers installed, so one side wouldn't work properly. I suppose it's possible, even if unlikely to happen.
Interesting! You can see how it could happen, you just might not think of it.
Thanks for the comment you would be surprised how many we get with the augers installed incorrectly even on new blowers as Jake noted.
I need to check my auger blades,…..”So with that being said”, I’m gonna finish my cup of coffee here and check that out.
Another great video, always learn something valuable from Eliminator video's.
Restored like new. Good work.
Thanks Jimmy!
Great video! I learned this the hard way, even with the knowledge and experience to know direction on the augers. I inadvertently slid the auger shaft into the gear box backwards and the augers followed suit. After 2 hours carefully reassembling, I fired it up and started at the augers spinning….and then realized and couldn’t believe I had made such a rookie mistake. Especially since I was totally aware of how they needed to go. So I had to take it all apart and correct it. Lesson learned.
Absolutely something that's easy to miss, thanks for watching!
Wow! Good to know!
Another good video, Thanks
Thanks for watching!
This was excellent !!!! I want congradulate like always !!! So looking foward to your videos
Thanks for watching George!
Thanks! I love your video’s. I feel as if I AM learning.
Thanks for the support Donald, we really appreciate it!
Nice to see this kind of appreciation out there Donald, thanks for your support of the channel the OLD MAN at EP!
Awesome, good auger knowledge, makes perfect sense to me bro.!!... thanks for the tips.!... good job.!! 👍
Thanks PC!
Well done looks great
Thanks Hank appreciate it brother!
Thanks Henry!
GREAT intel.... thanks!!
Thanks for the appreciation zeddie
Another great video. Thanks for keeping us informed about the "why didn't I think of that" stuff.
My Dad was a Montreal fan so they must call you Big John eh?
Thanks for watching John!
@@waynestefinashen239 My name DOES get THE question, "are you related to THE Great player??"
@@EliminatorPerformance Thank you for teaching!!
@@johnbelliveau4704 As a matter of fact i am pretty famous on the college scene in the late 1960's winning championship goalie stopping over 200 shots in final game and winning by a score of 3-2. My team did a good job skating on their ankles while we faced most of the Niagara Falls Junior B class players. Long time ago but i can still feel the one that hit the Jacques Plante style mask i had made for myself.
Good info for sure👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Great video , Like to see the new blower in action . Love my Tecumseh 10hp 28" blower works great .
They work great! And as I mentioned, the bigger impeller is what makes them great
You Dad must have seen my post where I did this last week lol! Thanks Jake!
Oh wow, no he never mentioned it to me! I was scrolling the snowblower forum and saw a post and thought it would make a great video topic. I had just finished this Cub Cadet so I wanted to cover it, too bad I didn't see it earlier and I would've filmed this when it was still all apart.
I took apart an MTD, Marked each auger from left to right 1,2,3,4 then after I put in the new worm gear in the auger box had the box Upside Down so my left was my right!! Had to take it apart and redo it. Oh well, live and learn!!
Nope not this Old Man Kenny never saw it will have to check.
@@waynestefinashen239 I think it was in Conker’s live and on our WhatsApp that I mentioned it. The video is waiting to be released lol! I need to figure out how to fast forward through the removal, Re-arrange, and reassemble portion!
👍👍👍Thank you
Thanks Pete!
Thanks, Jake. Another important concept to understand about snowblowers! I’ve got at least 6 curb finds and donations to flip, having already my first one last year for myself. Always more to learn. 👍🔧😎
Good stuff!
Rare for us to get any curb finds by Jake has a local scrapper friend for push style mowers that works really well for the business.
@@waynestefinashen239
Actually, I just generalized my description. All the snowblowers came from FreeCycle. All the other equipment came to me different ways. I actually had a few curb finds brought to me by people I know, but also some donated from folks who do cleanouts, some just brought to me and dropped off when people found out I was doing this and a bunch donated by baking customers on my eList. I eventually had to ask for no more donations, as I ran out of room in the shop and the yard is so full I have enough to keep me going for years! 😂👍🔧
@@Rein_Ciarfella Really when you think about that other than the storage issue it is a good problem especially when it is FREE!
@@waynestefinashen239
Absolutely! It seems as though there’s a never ending supply here on Cape Cod. I only paid for stuff in the beginning before I realized there was so much free equipment available.
Great video, like espesially the Long skidshoe
Glad you liked it!
The metal ones are really expensive but last much longer than the plastic ones.
Great video! Also nice paint! Heavy stuff! I'm guilty of it! It happens. Luckily it was my own machine lol. Disassembled on a bench and installed them in the driveway. Smh owell
Yes definitely something easy to overlook, this is why I wanted to make the video so it's something we all think about. As another subscriber said, he took his apart and marked them, but had the auger housing flipped upside down when he went to reinstall them!
Wow, I never realized that the augers have a direction. It would've been nice if manufacturers indicated it on them, kind of like they do with directional tires (printed arrow, etc.). I guess a good tip would be to indicate how they go back together with a sharpie, prior to taking them apart.
Good idea just make sure you identify it to the side of the housing because i have seen too many people mark something left or right then forget if they marked it from the front or back of the machine eh?
Can you do more Honda snowblower videos!
I've only ever gotten 2 or 3 come into the shop in the past 10 years or so.. they don't sell many around my area for whatever reason. They're super rare here, same with Yamaha I've never ever seen one of them
@@EliminatorPerformance oh okay! Yeah I seen your video on the gas strut going bad on a 928 and a complete tuneup on a small track one. Love your videos. By the way I just did a video on my Honda hss1332 track vs a Honda hs621 single stage. Was a fun comparison
Awesome video
Had I seen it a few months ago I could have saved a few hours 😅
Made this mistake when I repainted a rusty bucket and augers on a Craftsman.
It's an easy mistake to make, thanks for watching!
We all make mistakes and that is why i am so smart lol eh?
Amazing that you still have 2018 video or photo footage on file and can find it, magic eh?
All my videos are organized and saved on hard drive. I have every video I've ever uploaded and all the raw unedited clips. As well as footage from videos I've never used! Comes in handy at times like this!
@@EliminatorPerformance that must be a hellofalotof video!!? Nice job Bud!
@@donmayberryjrsOPE Yep Jake has an amazing collection of all the videos and photos he has taken since he started doing small engine repair 9 years ago. Not too sure if there are not more than one hard drive, i think the second one had more storage space.
@@waynestefinashen239 Jake has a phenomenal amount of knowledge for only being business for 9 ears!
@@donmayberryjrsOPE And both he and myself are still learning to this day and beyond. We do that by listening, reading , watching and learning from our mistakes.
I'm still using 92 and 94 mtd units
These ones were 1999-2001 but this one is a 2000 I believe. 23 years old and still working great with some new parts.
Another great video. It's probably just my OCD, but the auger fins on the driver's left side appear to be bent enough that their spiral path does not cover the entire width of the auger shaft. I would be out there with a big pipe wrench or some other lever arm to bend them back out. Just me and my OCD, hahaha.
The fin is slightly bent on that side yes, that's the last part of the repair as straightening them outside of the housing doesn't work because you can create interference where it'll hit the housing. So we painted everything and put it all back together and then just have to bend the one piece towards the center a bit! Thanks for watching!
Now there is a person with a good eye for detail, nice catch and no OCD sir.
Backwards snow removal machine 🥺😜
More of a tiller than anything lol thanks for watching!
@@EliminatorPerformance okay thanks for the heads up on this matter
Robert maybe we should run the engine backwards like Taryl did eh?
@@waynestefinashen239 cool glad you thought of it 😜🤣😜🤣
Yup. Another thing on some blowers is phasing the first stage augers correctly. The inner ends of the first stage augers need to be 90 or 180 apart depending on how many flights otherwise the blower will woof, woof snow out the secondary impeller.
Yes I think that applies to some of the troy bilt snow force ones with the 4 augers
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video! Thanks for the great information!
Thanks for watching Tommy!
Assuming augers are on correctly does it affect anything if you remove the shear pin and rotate auger 180 degrees and reinstall it? Or is symmetric around 180.
It is symmetric for that side, regardless of which way it's installed. The issue is when someone accidentally installs the right hand side on the left (in either the standard or rotated position) it will cause the spiral to push the snow outwards instead of in towards the impeller.
Musti 1, who is a veteran small engine mechanic, made this same mistake on a snow blower that he fixed a couple of weeks ago. If Musti can make a mistake like that, anyone can make a mistake like that. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤷🏿♂️
Yes absolutely a simple mistake to make, thanks for watching!
Yes Mustie 1 is one of the OG's (original gangsters) of small engine repair, just like DonyBoy73 and Mower Medic! I personally remember seeing Dons first video of an albino moose.
@@waynestefinashen239 No doubt about it, Musty 1 is a BOSS. 👑👑👑👑👑
@@patrickpoulard24 Yep i enjoy watching his videos he always comes up with a new cool project.
