@scottyhotty1003 Jones plays various different instruments on the album AFTERMATH that "Under My Thumb" is taken from. "Paint It, Black", on which he plays sitar, was recorded during the same sessions.
@@davescurry69 he was the driving force behind the band and drove their initial success. I had read in a book up and down with the Rolling Stones that his death was not an accident the "drowning"
@scottyhotty1003 There's a lot of stuff written about him and his "accidental" drowning. A couple of other must reads concerning Jones and the original Stones are TRUE ADVENTURES OF THE ROLLING STONES by Stanley Booth, and BRIAN JONES by Paul Trynka. The strongest theory is that he was killed by one of his staff - not intentionally - and that the police covered it up. The other Stones had absolutely nothing to do with it.
The original Rolling Stones here. Brian Jones, who died in 1969, playing the marimba [xylophone looking instrument]. It was really Brian Jones' band originally. Brian could play multiple instruments.
Great choice to use this live performance! Cool to see Brian Jones on the marimbas also :) I think you might enjoy the studio recording more though, it's really a beautiful song. One of my faves by the stones
The live version of this song from Altamont Speedway is both brilliant and harrowing. You got the Hells Angels trying to be security, a zoned out druggie standing next to Mick as he sings, and ultimately someone getting killed at the end of the song.
But at least the Tv show is authentic in showing what it was like....screaming girls, and the only technology they had some 57 years ago.. This sould be a studio pyabck for themn to sing to be cause I doubt you could hear naything clearly enough to hear what you are playing on the marimba or guitar. Decca put out a live album from about 1966 and it does not sound this good.
@thomastimlin1724 That's because that TV performance was the band miming to a backing track, which was a common occurrence back then. Only the vocals were live. And remember the genuine concerts at the time did not have the quality or size of the amplification or the PA systems that they would soon have. That's why The Beatles and Stones couldn't hear a thing they were playing back then. It wasn't until late 1966 and 1967 that acts like The Who, Cream and Hendrix beefed up the amplification to a much, much higher volume and standard.
Rolling Stones will never fade away, The meaning of cool in their 80's. Although I am just half their age, they never get old. If you ever see them live "WOW." I saw them 4 times, never disappoint. The next day, I played my guitar in Open G. Angela, you have to listen to the studio version, and the 1981 - 1982 World Tour Version. In this video The Rolling Stones was just starting out, Jagger sounded like he was nervous, unlike today.
This is the song they were playing at the infamous 1969 Altamont concert when a member of the Hells Angels stabbed a man to death on camera right in front of them.
I also believe Angela you probably didn't like the song cuz you're listening to the lyrics and I think it won male chauvinist Pig of the Year award because it's definitely derogatory saying about women she does what she's told down to me and under my thumb and squirm and dog and a lot of other references that the change has come she's under my thumb.
I think you if you were around back then, you'd think if this as a dance tune more than for "groovin". There were a lot of old songs like that, so I never really listened to the lyrics. I have to watch reactors to learn now what I didn't know then.
I think the sound quality of this tv appearance definitely doesn't do the song justice. The studio version would probably appeal to you a bit more. Still, it's fun to watch Mick do his thing.
Hey Angela........ I have a special request for a 60s tune called "Let Me In" by the Sensations...... it's a quirky upbeat song and I don't think anyone has reacted to it yet...... I always enjoy your reactions AND I really would like to see how you interpret the ryhthm especially. Check it out : )
I like this one by The Stones, not so rocky as some. If this was released as a single in the UK I think it must have been a B side. Like the backing and the live performance-Colin Ward
This song was protested by many women. The stones didn't seem to care. The lyrics wouldn't fly these days. I'm not sure any famous record labels now would even consider it as marketable.
Not really the best recording of the song as it was the actual TV Show sound system from 1966. But the studio version is so much greater in the fulness of sound because it's properly mixed.
It's tongue in cheek to be fair plus the lyrics suggest it was the woman who was initially bossing the relationship. People take things too serious today
Great clip even if they're lip-synching it. When you're young and gorgeous you can get away with those "misogynistic" lyrics. Also Brian miming away on the marimba ( I see his break was cut out) reminds me how vital he was to the sound and experimental nature of the Stones during his time
No lip syncing here. It was May 26,1966 on the British TV show "Ready, Steady, Go". In April of 1965 the show moved to a larger studio and required all acts to play live. When the show first started, everyone lip synced, but even before the show moved to requiring live performances, there were more acts performing live than lip syncing.
@@ptournas so I think the singing was live to a prerecorded backing track which would be a common practice on RSG and later Top of the Pops. I don’t think Brian ever hauled out the marimba for any live performances. The live version was definitely more energetic and rougher as evidenced by this Paris ‘67 show ua-cam.com/video/mTCm0tnZSdo/v-deo.htmlsi=dqKZ1u-wmrmXR0XK
There's a good cover of this song by a band called Streetheart. One of the few covers I like better than the original. Check it out if you are curious.
Great song... I hope it wasn't the feminist in you that didn' like it. The Stones do a few songs like this... "Play with Fire", "Beast of Burden", "It's All Over Now".
Why didn't you attempt to explain what the lyric's of the song were about? There is a lot of meaningful things that can be discussed about the these lyrics.
I'm transgenders I'm trying to do interests once a woman oneday and then I wake up next I and I won't dynamite. I wonder how many of the women's phone and love with the strange gender. Man😊😅😊😅😅

I like how honest a reactor you are. You don't just "love" everything. And you keep getting more beautiful with every video.
angela is just so fine...
The girls in the audience sure loved it and of course so did I 😂
The Glimmer Twins! The Greteast Rock N Roll Band Ever!! Mick! Keith!! Brian!! The Rolling Stones!!! ❤🎉🎶🎉🔥
I tend to agree that the studio version sounds a lot better
Brian Jones on the Xylophone!! Wow!! ❤🎶🔥
It's actually marimbas that he's playing. Very similar instruments.
@@davescurry69 wow thank u for that info as it makes the song sound so amazing

Mick is unbelievable. 😎
Great choice Angela. Brings back great memories.
Choosing bad audio versions(such as this one) of a song can sometimes make you not like it.
The live version of this song from Altamont Speedway is both brilliant and harrowing. You got the Hells Angels trying to be security, a zoned out druggie standing next to Mick as he sings, and ultimately someone getting killed at the end of the song.
Were you there? I bloody well doubt it 😂
57 years ago. Incredible
1966 . let it sink in 1966 . l grew up a Motown fan but l knew the Stones were way ahead of music at the time.
Iconic group! Ruby Tuesday and Paint it Black are 2 of my favorites. Good videos.
Wild horses is one of my favorites by the stones
The studio version of this one is a lot better than that TV version.

The actual recording doesn't sound like an ice pick pecking at your ears. You know, it sounds good.
by the by, the coat jagger is wearing here is a british military surplus musician's coat, probably red with blue cuffs and white-and-blue lace.

Greatest Rock N Roll Band ever 🤘

I think secretly you like it more than you would care to admit. You were grinning ear to ear lol
Studio Version you would enjoy better Angela.
I ‘be never seen this video 👍👍of the Stones.
Bad boys of rock and roll. LOL
Oh Angela, did this request mandate watching this subpar live version?
The studio version is better, it's really a great song. I feel in this performance his voice overpowered the music and it just didn't sound right.
This is the song they were playing at the infamous 1969 Altamont concert when a member of the Hells Angels stabbed a man to death on camera right in front of them.

Nearly 80 years old and Mick Jagger and the Stones are still touring. Amazing!
Could you do the rolling stones " Get off my cloud"
Try 'Winter' or 'Moonlight Mile'

Lol...Angela might like "Brown Sugar" and "Some Girls" by The Stones. Jagger loved women, but he really, really loved black women.
Sweetheart did a good cover of this.
Actually they are called “Streetheart”…….

Bad boys … let’s just say they don’t play this one at their concerts these days
With what's going on in our world how about some black Sabbath war pigs
ahaha the way your eyes are looking suspiciously side to side when you hear the lyrics. This lyrics did not age well, huh?
I enjoy the sound of the song, but the slightly sexist lyrics don't age as well. Would you consider Billy Joel "Say Goodbye to Hollywood"?
Mick's nasty chauvinism showing....
Hardly the most popular song with feminists at the time.
Probably not the best song for a Lady lol
Not the best version of this.
Always liked the riff but the lyrics topic sure wouldn't fly with women I know ...
Are you gotta have them? You just gotta get have them under your thumb. And you got to it's a must. M u s state under the thumb around every day
