To be “under one's thumb” means to be under that person's control. In this song, Mick Jagger has turned the tables on a girl who used to push him around, so now she's under his thumb and the “sweetest pet in the world.”
“Let it Loose” might be my all-time favorite Stones song. I wish these guys would do full album reactions because they're MISSING out on some truly great Stones songs, especially from that 1968-1972 period.
Brian Jones was the Rolling stones secret weapon in the 1960's. He played so many different instruments. He played; slide guitar, harmonica, dulcimer, mellotron, sitar, keyboards, etc... Here he is playing the marimbas.
My father had Their Hot Rocks 8 track, Zeppelins Houses of the Holy, a Beatles Greatest Hits when myself 3 brothers baby sister, mom all drove back and forth to Florida in a customized van, dark green with a rainbow stripe, mag wheels, shag carpeted inside the year was 1972 and next to Zeps HOH this song reminds me of that trip. RIP Sweet Albie, Mumsie, Paul, Dennis, Michael. PEACE LOVE LED ZEPPELIN
This song is just short of 60 years old.The bass line growl's just right under Micks vocals and the full stereo effect of different parts in each ear are perfect in this old great song
I love the band’s creative ingenuity, exploration of different musical forms, and in-studio experimentation during the Brian Jones era. As songwriters, they started to hit their stride with Aftermath (1966). Still, they also made some of their most antithetical Stones material (as heard with their forays into Baroque Pop and Psychedelia) in the Jones era. It's just a brilliantly creative period for the group.
Brian Jones on the Marimbas there. Just one of the many legendary imprints he made on their early music using whatever instrument came to hand (try Ruby Tuesaday next to hear him on the recorder). Definitely a nod to Motown here using a James Jamerson bass riff as the engine for this one. Love the underplayed guitar solo, too. Another good one from this era is 'I am waiting.'
Early classic Stones. Two additional early classics you shouldn't miss are "Satisfaction" and "Mothers Little Helper". Thanks for for keeping the music alive.
I've been a big fan of the stones for awhile but I've only recently listened to aftermath and between the buttons. Its crazy how early the stones actually sounded like the stones that you think of today.
This one brings me back to 1972 when I got my first album - Rolling Stones’ Hot Rocks. I was 9 years old and immediately hooked on their sound. Still my favorite band 51 years later!
HIGH Guys. you two will blow your minds on this one..... 4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song. “TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, 11 min+ PLEASE and Thank You.
I've always loved this song, even though I used to think it was sexist. As I got older and had a few relationships, I realized that this song just expresses feelings we have all felt during or after a bad relationship (male or female).
This is roughly 1966. Jumping Jack Flash was 1966 too. I am 67 and have been into the Stones since I was 8 in 1964. I find it so enjoyable that a segment of Americas population who are so musically gifted are just finding out about a The greatest Rock N Roll band in the world. No dis to no one but the school of cats all played instruments wrote original songs and never 'borrowed' stole or sampled anything. Much success in your channel Rock on
Another nice reaction. The Stones just have a production line of classic songs! Have you guys reacted to 'Miss You' yet? If not then it should definitely be on your list!
Through The Past Darkly, the original release was a hexagonally-shaped lp of greatest hits which came out in the early 70s, is a definitive collection of the Stones at one of their peaks. Then came Goat's Head Soup!
Always loved the drive and Mick's singing in this song.🎶 Under my thumb means having control over someone. Yes, in today's world the lyrics might be a bit controversial but can't deny how catchy the entire arrangement is. Sounds like he was under her thumb at some point as well so it went both ways. Thanks guys for reacting to another great Stones tune!🧡
In today's world? I played this on my Halloween show on college radio because I considered it genuinely scary -- in 1974! 50 years ago! Don't get me wrong, I love the track, and the musicianship is superb, but those lyrics are definitely caveman worthy!
@@jpmnewyork I hear you. There were so many songs back then (and today) that are creepy. @@Jules-um4yy Absolutely. Not only "Hey Joe" but Neil Young's "Down By The River" -- which I love to listen to, but man, there were an awful lot of women getting shot down in these songs. They even addressed it in "Getting Better": I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved Man, I was mean but I'm changing my scene And I'm doing the best that I can Of course McCartney, of all people, still managed to make me cringe with "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"...

Brian Jones really gave a lot of the early songs depth and fullness. Every time you think, "Wow, that's cool", it was usually Brian doing something with some instrument you would never fathomed could be in a rock song.
I'm just an older than dirt old hippie. For some weird reason I'd rarely listen to the Stones. But I loved them. So before my mind turns to Quaker Oats I'm going down the rabbit hole. Again. Thanks kids!!
