Loved the race, but did you see the Pontiac 6000 commercial? "One of the top 10 cars in the world." I was working at a Pontiac dealer back then, uhm no.
I don't think it was one of the 1984 top10 FWD sedans in the World, hahaha · I don't think it was the best of the GM products (Chevrolet Celebrity, Buick Century and Oldsmobile Cutlass all shared almost everything) · Not sure if better than the Dodge Lancer and the Chrysler and Plymouth versions · The Audi 80 was better · The Citroens BX and CX were better · The Honda Accord was better · The Lancia Thema was better · The Mazda 626 was better · The Nissan Bluebird was better · The Opel Ascona/Vauxhall Cavalier was better · The Peugeot 505 was better · The Toyota Camry was better · The Volvo 200-something (the legendary "flying brick") was better The Pontiac 6000 was bottom-tier, only better than the trash brands like FIAT, SEAT, Renault, Volkswagen and a few more were putting out
TheNASCARJeff Obviously you know little about banjos or their history. Any goober can pick a guitar but only skilled musicians can master playing a banjo.
Buttermilkjug no , you are. You have no clue what it takes to master a banjo. Go back to mommy’s basement or post up a video of you showing just how easy it is to play a banjo.
Waltrip said earnhardt and rudd was teammate, no they wasn't. Earnhardt was driving the #3 Chevrolet for Richard childress, rudd was driving #15 Ford for bud Moore, both was sponsored by wrangler but not teammates.
I just love how good ol dw said rusty is in the gatorade car a good car. I was born fall of that year probably around the time this race was run and I only wish I could have been able to experience north wilkesboro speedway back then. Definitely the good ol days.
**POINTS STANDINGS and WINS before the 1984 WILKES 400 (27 of 30):** #44 Terry Labonte (3947pts with 2 wins, GM) #33 Harry Gant (-86 with 3 wins, GM) #9 Bill Elliott (-227 with 2 wins, Ford) #3 Dale Earnhardt (-262 with 1 win, GM) #11 Darrell Waltrip (-288 with 6 wins, GM) #22 Bobby Allison (-503 with 2 wins, GM) #15 Ricky Rudd (-556 with 1 win, Ford) #12 Neil Bonnet (-624, GM) #5 Geoff Bodine (-699 with 2 wins, GM) Richard Petty (GM #43 with 2 wins) was having an on-and-off season and was 11th. Tim Richmond (GM #27 with 1 win) was 13th because of mechanical issues and inconsistent pace. Part-timer Cale Yarborough (GM #28) won the Daytona 500, the Alabama 500 and the Pennsylvania 500. Benny Parsons (GM #55), another part-timer, won the Dixie 500. Despite being the best rookie of 1983, Sterling Marlin couldn’t secure a fulltime ride and didn’t have a good sophomore season. Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus the rookie of the year before and whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In North Wilkesboro’s case, the earlier race is the Gwyn Staley 400 while the later one is the Wilkes 400.
No doubt i was at this race..if you look closely, you’ll be able to see me standing at the fence between turns 1&2 at the motor homes…lol..these were the good ol days right here people, believe me…
Darrell being a little baby about the points system back in those days. Talking about throwing the worse 5 races a driver has during the season. 😂😂😂 Of course Darrell would want that. I'm a fan of Darrell, but I'd liked to slap him for saying that.
He did cry. 😂 But man I loved him. He could brag too but he backed it up in his prime. From 93-00 were some trying years for a waltrip fan man. I'd be right there though trying to find him in the back of the pack just hoping for a top 20 or a decent qualifying position. That little while he drove for Dale I was ecstatic.
@@cc2450 I was young when Darrell started beating my hero cale .he could always drive with the best of them.i would have loved to watch him at the fairgrounds.
Man, Rudd was a lowkey driver who was a threat for decades! Very under rated!
Now in the Hall of Fame
Back when wilkesboro didnt have a pit wall. I love these old races
Smiff I've said it before but man I sure enjoy watching your videos. I wish I could turn back time to when nascar was in it's hay day.

If is one thing that irks me while watching these old races in the networks playing of banjo music...This is not Deliverance!
But NASCAR had the "oh its a Southern only sport, quick let's get banjos" motif back in the 80s.

@@prevost8686 I just felt as if we where all being painted as a bunch of backwoods goobers when this was and is a national sport.
Wayne.. are you ignorant?~ Banjo is way easier to learn to play than the guitar~ Hell, just strum it open and you're playing a chord~

I was just over a year old when this race happened!
A favorite year, music to my ears hearing the points battle is down to LaBonte and Gant🤗
51:35 That chameleon Donlavey scheme one of the best ever

I thought Rusty is from St. Louis
Some networks at the time listed where the drivers currently lived at, as opposed to their hometown.

interesting track fact presented at 21:53.
SMIFF ... You took from UA-cam Holly Farms 400 1982?
Do you have races or qualifying from 2008 in the Nationwide series?
