I was there that day and it didn't feel like 62 degrees. I was freezing sitting up in the Junior Johnson grandstands in turn 3. I drove down for the race from college up at Appalachian State University.
what an era, eh? All those names together! I miss watching these back in the day; UA-cam is brilliant for what it has given us in accessing our nostalgia
This probably my favorite race from NW cause it was pretty unpredictable with all the yellows and different leaders. Dale, Jimmy Spencer, Brett Bodine,etc
My uncle was at that race. End of the turn 1 grandstands. The slight gusts of wind that day made it feel colder than 62 degrees. But it was a day of good racing from what he told me years ago. A day before my first birthday.
Yes they would. They turned their back on that track and the fans that were in the stands that day.They think bringing it back on the shoulders of the has been that never was is the answer.
1 56: 38 Bodine pulled down in front of Allison and stopped then when Allison tried to leave he did it again and got his car messed up. He could have finished before he pulled that stunt.
It's a shame there wasn't a Tammy Peyton Williams memorial car. She never won a race. She was a nurse and a mother of 2. She was killed by a drunk driver.
Still 10yrs before FOX dumped truck loads of 💰💰💰 in Bill Jr's front yard & immediately started screw'n the sport up, just as they've done to the other major sports in 🇺🇲 I love watching the Stockcar races from before that happened, it's true racing, no stage's, no giving lap's back, no lap down car's forced to start behind the leader's & most of all, grown-ass MEN racing with real personalities. I know I sound like the "old guy", but damnit racing was better back then! 🤷🏻♂️ Was happy for Ol' DW, he wasn't my driver, but once he started his own team, like so many fan's I started to cheer for him, instead of booing him like we all did for years! 😉👍
This race reminds of the old adage of "less is more." In that the coverage seems better without the constant yammering analysis of the race that's heard nowadays with Fox and NBC. The announcing crew is just nudging the race along with commentary and not trying to verbally dominate it. I prefer this style of TV coverage.
The stuff I've gotten over the years has been all over the quality spectrum... some make you go "Damn, this looks GREAT!", while some leave you frustrated that Joe Blow didn't have a better AV setup 30 years ago lol. Either way, I'm eternally grateful to every single person who has made it so people like I us can see this stuff (again, or for the first time) all these years later.
@@SMIFFTV same here, you can only do so much with a tape dump, I used to have a VCR that chewed up tapes especially brand new ones, I'm just glad there's so many old school races I can enjoy watching during the off season.

Is it obvious to you that racing used to be much more entertaining at virtually all levels? It was. It was also alot less safe
Christopher Haas unsafe, but fun to watch I’m sure.
DAMN im LOVING this RACE. GO MR. EXCITEMENT lol. This race, along with Bristol the previous week, put Spencer on the map. Two GREAT races.
Man 54 yr old Charlie glosback getting into that car was somethi g to see the man had a like and one a race there 20yrs prior to this race being run
NASCAR would love a crowd that size now.
Sean Barnes HALF that size (no virus)
I noticed that, too. Crowd seem larger than what's found of late at Charlotte or Atlanta.

DW gets redemption following the previous year's controversial finish
Rudd's mid-race driving was ridiculous.
I agree, he was a terror out there.
RIP charlie
My lil brother once accidentally called rusty Wallace "rusty wallet" and just call him that from now on
@Duncan Patrick wtf does that have to do with the price of tea in china?
@Royce Alexander no
@Duncan Patrick no
You have the best Nascar channel Smiff. Thanks a million

This is good stuff, like the slight upscaling, looks a little bit cleaner than the average 480p tape dumps.

Steve are you a former NASCAR crew chief? If so thanks for all you did for the sport.
Notice that Ken Schrader car is from 1990
I have a dream of seeing an oval similar to North Wilkesboro here in Brazil... A 1km oval
Bodine turned down into Rudd imo; he wrecked himself by not being aware.
