Hero being in smash actually inspired me to play the game, and I've gotta say... dragons quest 11 is a masterpiece and he definitely deserved a place in smash!
I played the demo on the Switch and often thought "Okay that's gotta be the end of the demo... What it's still going?!". You really could play a lot there. And I really liked it too and wanted to buy the game because of that. Later I read, that Eldrik (that's his name, right?) from DQ would coma as a DLC and I didn' t thought much about it, I just was happy that now FF and DQ got a character in Smash. But then hero from DQ11 appeared in the trailer and I got a huge smile

I was just in awe at hownmuch game there was in the demo. Fast forward a few months, while shopping for games, I found the full version. I got it (alongside A Link Between Worlds), and I restarted without transfering my demo file. Fast forward to today, I'm on the cusp of 100% it to commemorate it being my very first Dragon Quest game.

Its actually in ff1 i believe. In the original release of the game the grave said *here lies erdrick* but after square merged with enix and the dawn of souls version of 1 and 2 came out on gba they changed it to *here lies link*
@@vanillacokejunky it's more so to do with how Chrom can kill the opponent first if his up B starts below the stage and how easy it is to combo into. Donkey Kong isn't particularly a suicide character. Browser's suicide isn't as easy to pull off and you'll usually die first/ it is possible for some characters to recover from it. Kirby once again hard to pull off and there is the possibility of the opponent recovering.
Based on the trailer, DQ11's hero will be the main addition, while the heros from DQ3, 4 and 8 will be alternative skins. The remaining heros will appear in the special attack

Akira and Nintendo literally made a cinematic of Adventure Mode, look at the eyes, the aura, the way they fight, even the army of clones appear later. Thats why is my favorite cinematic from the DLC reveal characters.

However this time around I'm really hype for the dlc as I played a ton of Dragon Quest IX for DS back in the day. I hope more people can come to appreciate how much Dragon Quest in Smash means to some people!

I loved the 4th installment that was released over here in the us, way back on the nes, localized as Dragon Warrior 4. I never for to play through the first three completely, but 4 Is probably still my favorite game to this day, followed closely by Wind Waker. Would love to play all the others

Yes, but basically only in Japan. Dragon Quest has released games outside of Japan, but over here in the States I'm not even sure if it's still being released. Gamers here know the name, but very few have actually played a DQ game. Still, if Japan got characters from an RPG that's only popular there, maybe there's still hope for Golden Sun's Isaac.

- The Dragon Quest series is niche outside of Japan, but it's huge inside Japan, the release date of a Dragon Quest game is an unnoficial holiday in the country, the series is really, really popular there, and it will sell a lot of DLC, and raise even more the sales of the base game.
- Outside Japan, the series may be not very popular, but then, Smash will do the opposite, this DLC will be advertisement for the Dragon Quest franchise, Square-Enix is trying to make the series popular here as well and Smash is the perfect opportunity.

Victor Damázio These are valid reminders, but if someone isn’t happy about the reveal they do still have a right to be displeased. I was disappointed at first since I don’t care about Dragon Quest one way or the other, but the moveset looks pretty cool so I’ve been assuaged for now.
I loved the 4th installment that was released over here in the us, way back on the nes, localized as Dragon Warrior 4. I never for to play through the first three completely, but 4 Is probably still my favorite game to this day, followed closely by Wind Waker. Would love to play all the others

Yes, but basically only in Japan. Dragon Quest has released games outside of Japan, but over here in the States I'm not even sure if it's still being released. Gamers here know the name, but very few have actually played a DQ game.
Still, if Japan got characters from an RPG that's only popular there, maybe there's still hope for Golden Sun's Isaac.

It's not just influences that were drawn from it. Until dragon quest game developers didn't believe in the commercial interest in rpgs. It's success led to people greenlighting most of those projects.
Even now, after Erdrick and his party of Heroes have been put into Smash, their reveal trailer is quite possibly the best reveal trailer we've ever had for a character.

Listen, a series like Dragon Quest getting a representative in such a large and dedicated game series makes me so freaking happy. And the fact that there's different Heroes from the different DQ games as skins is just all the fanservice I need. I'm not even Japanese, but I freaking love DQ. One of the best Smash characters, and I'm absolutely maining him when I get a Switch and Smash Ult.

nope each of the four heros has an alt. but the models are going to be in game so give it time for the mods to come and get the other heros in game
