Bro, the Trilogy was the first Yngwie album I bought but I think the one that I love the most because of the quality of the song writing is Facing The Animal. I love everything he did from Alcatrazz to Facing The Animal. By the way Magic Mirror is a freaking insane song.

what do you think of the intro part of "Crystal Ball" ? Not really any chords there (I think), but must be one of the best intro parts of any song written IMO ! Btw. if you do another Yngwie video, would be nice to hear you try play it (maybe with some backing synth/beat)!

And eddie new it. Ed dodged yjm foerever when they were at the same functions/events. Ed finally met up with someone who was light years away from him as eric clapton found out in 66 when jimi hendrix invaded england. I love ed, he had his thing but on a serious guitar level yjm raised the bar and and blossomed a rock neo classical shred genre that continues to this day. No yngwie no shred heros you know and love today. Ed was a technique...yngwie was a genre. Thank god for both!!!

Great album indeed. Trilogy was Yngwie's first blossom into melodic songs, yet there is that rawness to it that remains gripping as you say. Arguably, and aside from his first album which is a category in itself, end even though both albums with Joe Lynn were really good, from a musical pov, I think "Fire and Ice" may well be his best album ever, great songs, great melodies, and possibly his best band lineup. The downhill slide started after that, slowly at first, and then it just snowballed, to a point now where all he does is record the same old covers in his living room and calls that an album. As a fan for 40 years, sadly I find he has done nothing even vaguely exciting for almost 20 years...

Great lesson(s) on Yngwie, Ive been a huge fan since the Steeler album. I agree about Trilogy being a fav album, but those first 3 albums are just steller. I go through a phase of relearning a bunch of Yngwie songs every 2-3 years, it always starts with reacquainting myself with Trilogy Suite (every damn time I mix up the arraignment). Yngwies tone has primarily been based around Marshall Plexi 5o watt heads with a DOD 308 pedal/preamp pushing the front from a stock Strat, later the SD/dimarzio pickups would be added.
Show idea ---> perhaps you could focus on a single album and pick your way through each track finding the most interesting ideas chord/melody/technique etc.

trilogy was mind blowing for a new guitar player who just bought a gibson les paul custom and a jcm800 back in the mid 80s .
it along with all the other incredible music molded me into the guitar player I AM TODAY.one part malmsteen, one part kk/tipton,
one part jake e lee,one part eddie van halen,a couple dashes of george lynch, add some warren dimarinni and matias jabbs and
if only i could've got into the right band i could be a fat poorly aging rock star living in the past(kind of like i do now, minus the fame)

I know what gear Yngwie used on Trilogy. There is so much crap talked about him - check out the Live in Leningrad video, there's a bt where he runs off stage towards the end a camera follows him then turns around as he runs back out on stage - you see empty Marshall cabs and amp heads that just have the neons connected and no amp chassis in them. He's not stupid, he'd be deaf long ago if they where real amps. He uses one small amp, always has done. I was going to PM you but you have no contact details, oh well!

Really love your videos, David, keep 'em coming. Never been a fan of Yngwie myself, actually I only started liking his stuff recently, but anyone who's practised the guitar has to realise he's one of the best. Ok, he repeats himself, he likes playing fast, a lot, etc, etc, but, come on, he created a school of his own, with so many guys being inspired by him. And he's still flawless on the instrument. He deserves respect.

My first touch point with Yngwie was Steeler's "Hot on your heels" (ua-cam.com/video/EGzLLpa5XoE/v-deo.html). Yngwie must have been 17 or 18 when he joined this band from Nashville. How did that happen for a teenager from Sweden? Anyway: Amazing intro, riff and solo.

Dude, love your videos! Yngwie became part of my life when I was 15, that’s 25 years ago. He’s a living legend.

Eclipse is my favorite album. In my opinion Gornan Edman was his best singer.

@ 13:46 There’s a lot of similarities between “Dreaming” , and “Don’t let it end” I’m just realizing. I’m kind of groggy as I awoke to this video from a food nap ha ha😄.. but seriously, for just a split second I thought you were playing an acoustic version of “Don’t let it end” before realizing it is In fact “Dreaming”. Very well done, I’ve saved this video into my guitar instructions video folder.

I’ll be honest, I’ve kinda liked Yngwie’s music but never loved it. I guess it was his tone, maybe the production, whatever. But the way you present and play these ideas is really mind blowing. Again, I prefer your playing over the recording. I paused at the start to go back through his library to find more songs I’d like, and oddly enough, several were in the lesson! 👊🏻
Thanks for the excellent tips, explanations and ideas David!🤘🏻

Pardon. No offense but he plays the ascending lick for I’ll see the Light on the low E and A string only and goes up
Look at him play it live.
    Cheers. Love your vids !
