Dutch Passion, one of the worlds oldest seedbank companies, has tested the MIGRO UVB to determine the effect on terpene levels.
They ran a controlled test in a side by side grow, one side with UVB, one without. There was a 19% increase in terpene levels under the UVB fixture, some terpenes increasing by almost 50%.
Increased terpenes mean increased flavour and smell. Research also indicates increased terpene levels can lead to a more complex and satisfying effect when consumed.

I love seeing actual studies done with side-by-side testing instead of the "Bro-Science" many channels give. Kudos Migro. Quality content and products!
This was done 2013 on icmag.. you can see the difference by your eyes... 2013. I told this to skunkman sam and hash church then, 9 years ago, and now you see everyone trying it
the post is (icmag side by side no uvb versus uvb) posts from 9 or ten years ago bud... proven, with nugshots and all side by side.
Also Bruce Bugbee is doing that as I type this at Utah State, and theyre hiring master phd ed students to help.. literally on this topic among others (growing plants with LED in space is the grant he got to test these for, using scynceLED)
@@dertythegrower It took him 2 minutes to say flavonoid. Anyone using that word right now is a bro sheep. A normal person would say sugar or glycoside. Only the Bro sheep use the language they all use. Terpene this, flavonoid that. Tell us why uvb is different... He can't.

I use the migro UVB light for 1 hour per day from week 6 till harvest. I move the lights around the tent every two days to even out exposure and I have very noticeable improvement in quality of high, smell and look of the buds. Indica leaning hybrids become more sedative and couchlocky and Sativa hybrids become more racey. This becomes much more noticeable after two months of curing at 55% rh.
any liquor or whores ?
It's got me wondering if either of the "safe" UV's would be beneficial during the drying/curing process. I have no biology background whatsoever so this might be out my ass but would the high energy particle not help break down the chlorophylls faster while simultaneously creating more terpenes since they act like a sunscreen for the plant?
@@dylanwilliams9860 No it won't benefit after harvest

Nice to see someone passion and attention to quality getting recognition. Respect.
Uvb signals hydroxycinnamic acids. That's the only difference. You don't need new lights. You just need to sap test your plant, tissue test your plant, and grasp why you have tons of unmetabolized calcium clogging up your system. Lower calcium, lower nitrogen, raise B. That's it.
People are breeding weed loaded with calcium to the point of altering its expression to unrecognizable as Cannabis resin. It's slowly killing the gene pool. The plants turn purple now instead of producing thiols when it comes to oxidative stress..
Been using Migro UVB since it was released. All I can say it definitely raise my terpenes, amount of trichomes and also seemed to help mature my trichomes.
I can't believe how good it smells under UVB.
Thank you to people from Dutch Passion and to you Shane for this interesting video :)

Good to see you keeping up with the biological science Shawn as many of us don't have the resources to go with lab results.
I tried my own study with 100 microwatts of halogen UVB lights (which you would know is very intense) but cycled it a day per week at 1min-on/10min-off.
The dosing is where plants can be damaged and indeed my leaves appeared crispy and drained of oils after one day of treatment and required a week to recover. The potential for eye and skin damage is high at 100uW so that wearing uv glasses and isolation were necessary.
I enjoy bro-science in which my engineering agricultural background helps as the resources to do real science are expensive.
Great post.

Yes. Been using Agromax Pure UVB T5s for years.
Always told people it was beneficial but growers especially early on balked at this. It was because they didvt use the fixtures properly and or the wrong fixtures.
@@timpage5021 🎯Well documented on icmag since 2013 eheheh. If ya know ya know. People think they would use it the same or just a few hours less, but there needs to be solid difference and light levels of UV compared to normal light (our atmosphere blocks a lot of spectrum, and we have to dial in midflorida or whereever your specific plant was made in the wild all those years, you could mimic that area and duplicate uv levels from the landrace area of the plant which you have)
I internet-love you for talking about this more. Thank you Shane.
Excellent work Shane, thanks! It’s true you are as important of a voice as any other on this platform, maybe more important than most that offer information for growers 👍🏻

Hi Shane, fellow Irish man here. I've been growing with several lights over the years and from my experience the strongest, biggest colas I got was from a old style "pink" Roleandro light during flower. I believe colour temp was around 2200k. Very high flower to leaf ratio and buds ripened extremely fast with huge thick stems. I personally find the quantum boards with Samsung diodes produce several small buds where as this pink light grows huge colas. I'm curious if you would do a comparison with a light that has spectrum adjustment and test out a plant with only red spectrum after 2 weeks of 12/12. Cheers
great test and fantastic results
When he does reviews, I end up buying Migro lights.
Great job MIGRO, thankyou!
Mine goes up next week and I'm looking forward to the end results
@Migro Shane, I'mm VERY interested in your UVB light for this purpose. The Dutch Passion page says very little about process, and what's printed there is quite different from what you stated. Can you provide more details or a white paper? LOVE your channel and info!!!
I used the old black lights years ago .. one stayed on for the last week of flowers.. what it did was crazy .. looked like some one sprayed the canopy under the light with white spray paint ..
UV-A and UV-B can be used too to reduce plant stretch and they will become more bushy. but like use it for increase terpens its better dont use it all the time. for exmplae in the last 3 or 4 weeks of flowering start with ~15min uv per day and increase to ~1h per day. but too much uv can reduce grow speed because the plant focus their engery to protect against the uv and it can also make a "sunburn" to the leaves
Finally what I have been preaching so many times! So you know what to do, release that Migro lamp with the ultimate combo, UV, Spectrum Adjust and a fair price and you will dominate the UK and Europe!
Changes the colours of my plants.

Believe me I was the first person on youtube who talked about this (and CBG for stopping tumor growth).

It's all documented. Then people argued and I told everyone UV is highest in florida (where i started to grow and harvest for many big companies). So then skunkman sam saw me talking about it in Hash church chat, and then replied to the post on icmag (again its documented there in 2013). I assure you heh. Also I was the first to question Dr. Mark Scialdone about THC-o Acetate (now made mainstream because of CBD hemp being legal) aka thc acetate. Not a debate, just educating 🙏
@@petergill4744 Yes, UV can damage skin and eyes.
Dr. Bruce Bugbee talks about all this in fine detail last year on his page (apogee instruments).

I've had a couple of these UVB lights from Migro for awhile now. I honestly can't imagine growing cannabis with out them now. The difference is staggering. One thing Migro isn't talking about is that the boosted terpenes also reduce your tolerance to THC. Every time I vape my own weed I get high and I've been vaping it everyday for over 2 months now. Just vape it at 176c until the flavor fades, then bang it up to 188c and you will feel the effects of the THC every time.

That's exactly how it grows outdoors, where the light source is the sun. As for uv supplementation, it all depends on your light. Lec (cmh) produces both. Uva can be had from led & florescent as well as cmh (which is at a lower level). Uvb can be had from florescent & low levels in cmh.. Led cannot produce uvb at the moment, only florescent. Black lights are another option to produce uva, but it doesn't produce much & the intensity is very low.
The best options are AgroMax, Migro & solarcure , Phillips also makes a uv light. The first 3 I listed offer the best uvb nm range to stimulate the uvr8 photoreceptor. There is cmh as well but they don't make as much uv as compared to a supplement uv light that was built for simply uv.
Shane has other videos where he tests them all & provides the levels & specs.
Reptile lights also offer uv , higher than cmh but lower than the brands I spoke of previously.
If i understand correctly, THC levels did not change ?
This theory is a fact. Our growth lamp products are added with UVA and UVB. Independent UVA supplemental light. Although we haven't tested them professionally, our customers find them very good.
Good afternoon I would like to know how to run your UVB lights. The 75% UVB, 25% UVA light he decided on is a very interesting story! Another brand of lamp with the same specs, but with a reflector that's built into the lamp.
Shane tested this lamp and the built-in reflector was having Zero effect! Same as the other brand with no reflector at all. With a reflector on the lamp without a built-in reflector, he was getting readings 3X as high at canopy level! My lights have uv and ir built in but both on own switch. How would I know their "power' and why can't we leave them on from veg through flower?
You can use a plug in power meter to monitor the energy consumption for a rough idea of the light output. If you use the UV too much slows growth as well as lose a lot of the benefit of UV, among other reasons. Do as Shane says!

We have to figure out the specific ratio of uv to the plants needs, and it will all be found out within the next 3 years, mark my words.
Nice
I had a friend in the 90s blast some weed with uva intermittently. When he got busted with it his lawyer got him off as the legal definition of weed had a lower thc limit his was in the high 30s % .my last crop is first I have run with uvb but uva will increase thc in very small amounts I also have wondered about bombarding a plant with far red around 780-800 allowing a shorter dark phase . I dont think we really understand anything yet about Marijuana and lighting
You can do far red both at the beginning and end of the light cycle but it only gives you an extra hour of light max. Up to you if you wanna risk it
There are confounding factors in this study. The uvb adds extra light the other side did not get, it adds heat to the leaf surface like any light would, they tested only one strain type, they didn’t replicate their results.
I would asume they ran the tests in a co controlled environment with the same watts used in both tents . Or the test would be flawed
UV can only be added for minutes each day so the temperature thing isn't correct. That being said, I need to see many more tests to be convinced of this. If Dr. Bruce Bugbee says its true then I'll believe haha.
@@mike--0 we're talking about 60 minutes in this study if I'm not mistaken. And @Grant Talbot they did not control for wattage, they simply added the wattage of the UV lamp to one side.
I wouldn't put too much weight on what Bugbee says because it all has to be taken in context. If you grow according to his typically suggested parameters you'll end up with fox tailed larf and a higher mold risk, but you will get lots of it. There is a lot more to growing bud than light, and knowing that "this light spectrum at this intensity produces the biggest yield" doesn't mean you should ever grow that way if you want high quality bud.
Theres already a good 50 watts led samsung lm 283 uva with better price than t8
And driverless
Cheers
Hi,
UVB LED diodes do not emit enough UV light compared to fluorescent.
Thanks.
@@MIGROLIGHTyeah i know that you sayd that on video
But theres studys with uv readers that shows a good uvb spectrum on this leds
If you want to compare them side by side i send you the link to them
Edit : the wave good on this leds only uva
@@MIGROLIGHT and they are Bridgelux diodes
Dont believe this is a placebo
Hi,
Sure if you want to sent us some links we can take a look.
info@partechled.com
Thanks.
Ok i will send you to check
Thanks
So you're saying sunlight is the overall best possible light. So make a light with an automatic sun spectrum that auto dims to simulate rise and set along with auto spectrum adjustment for time of day. All while it has ports to connect and distribute co2
We couldn't have it all at once straight away like that, that's bad business.
Lol. Less smell the better when u on the down low
I'm still I team Bugbee until better data comes in. A single chart from Dutch Passion with no experiment details isn't enough for me.
Bruce dosesnt grow cannabis. We the old head growers been using UVB for years. Experience is everything.
@@timpage5021 Bro, no. The last part, believe me i was there on icmag 2013... i know all about green_science and skunkman sam posted in there from me telling him.
But Dr. Bruce Bugbee is literally funded by NASA and USDA now with ScynceLED to grow weed and research this... Gerry is correct and Bruce will prove it works for sure next year or 2024 when the studies he is granted funding for are done.. yes, Nasa funds Bruce to grow weed. Literally. Also i can get you hired with Bruce if you have a master in horticulture, hit me up 👋
Agree. Bruce Bugbee 💯
@@timpage5021 He grows hemp, lots of it too. It's all Cannabis
@@dertythegrower not a master but a associate from Hocking college in cannabis laboratory science. It’s one of the first programs in the country to major in cannabis specific sciences in laboratory studies. Pretty proud of it. Cost quite a bit outta pocket to me anyway cuz federal grants were not available to pay for tuition. ….at that time anyway.
But thank you I appreciate the offer. I’ve had a few different positions at a few different facilities but the pay wasn’t what I make in my normal trade. I only went through with the program at 1st for purely knowledge to apply to my own cannabis. But did dip my toes in and unless your a head of department and even then there isn’t a whole lotta money to be made. Especially now with the big 6 cannabis cartel corps swallowing up smaller facilities left and right and these ridiculous taxes and regulations. Hell even paying for Metrix to track product is a struggle now for companies.
You are a fucking G! 😚💨💨🌴🌴🔥🔥🤙✌️
Autos aka cucumber terps
Skywalker Haze AUTO and they used clones???🤣🤣🤣 Just let that sink in a little. They don't even show your lighting set up, just some burple kaka light, and just a mention of the Migro UVA/UVB fixture.
You noticed that too...🧢
Have a good read through the article, nowhere does it say the comparison test is on skywalker haze. The test was on clones
And the lights were migro lights
I need one of ur lights my bro
everyone needs one, 🤪
