If you are unsure about fixing onto plasterboard sections of the d&d youcould locate the solid dab areas, mark them on a card template then transfer to the wall plate. You then drill your own screw holes on the plate if theres not one in position over a dab. Then use regular wall plugs. This method would only work with a largish plate bracket.

Nice video. Today I got all the stuff to fit a TV to a masonry wall only to discover it's a dot and dab wall with a cavity before the brickwork. I'm sure there's a lesson there... Anyway, reassuring to know it's possible to do it, however in this instance I think I'm just going to return the wall mount cos my wife gets bothered about holes in the wall.
Looking at installing my 65" 21kg TV with six of the corefix dot and dab specific fittings. Oddly alot of brackets say not suitable for dot and dab walls, I would think that was a fixings issue not the bracket. Do you think 6 of the 100mm corefix fittings would suffice?
How would you recommend putting a tv mount onto a brick wall that has a layer of insulation board and plasterboard too? There is prob around 40mm before hitting the brick.

Hey Andy... Can I ask why you drill a hole using a standard masonry bit then use a flat wood bit to cut a bigger piece out of the drywall? Can this not just be done with the one masonry bit and bang in the bolt? Cheers.

You can counterbore the 2x2 so enough of the threaded end comes through. In all honestly probably overkill for most boxing and you might get away with plastic plugs with 10ga screws and also some grab adhesive on the 2x2's. 👍

Iv used the self drive metal ones which you screw in wall and they make their own whole then you screw the screw it comes with into. Are these strong enough? If I use 4 to 6 per bracket?
Don't use spiral self screwing fittings - they're terrible. Depending on the weight I'd just go for the expanding drywall fittings with a setting tool - they're rated to around 15kg each. 👍
I have an Ikea fold away kitchen table with a swing arm that I have mounted underneath the only window in my 100 year old, lath & plaster kitchen. The Mounting area is a "T" shape, with one screw on each end and a 2" perpendicular piece down the center with two screws.I have it well anchored on a stud on one side, and in the center, but the left side keeps pulling out of the wall because there is no stud there. Even this last time using a large Phillips head toggle bolt, it gradually pulled out. Any ideas on how to get that side to stay affixed to the wall? I thought about attaching a large piece 1/4" plywood to the wall first so it covers the next stud, and to give the toggle bolt more to bite into. Does anyone have any better solution?
Over kill. Seems like u have a concrete wall behind the plaster board. All u needed was some 10 gauge 3 inch screws and some brown plugs. Making sure u hit the plugs in past the plaster board and into the concrete blocks. If was thermal block wall the use the square anchors. No need to drill just hammer them in.
Yes it looks like a standard expansion bolt which can be used for concrete masonry etc but you are using some sort of cap for the plasterboard which is a good idea to stop the bolt from damaging the plasterboard. I recently came across Rigifix fixings for dot and dab walls which seem to be essentially an internally threaded expansion bolt within a sleeve which seem like the same thing. buyrigifixonline.co.uk/ They are expensive though at about a pound a fixing and your method seems like a cheaper option. Where do you get the caps for the bolts from do you have a product name I could look up? Helpful video though gave me the inspiration to try to hang my tv on my dot and dab plaster board walls! Thanks!
Ah, yes - just nylon spacers left over from putting many, many TV brackets up! :-) I think you can buy them separately off eBay and the like. Also check out www.corefixed.com/
When you knock on these walls, some areas will sound dense (that's where the plaster is behind the cavity wall) and so the other parts of the wall will sound hollow

How heavy was TV, aren't those fittings rated for like 100kgs between 4?

This is a solid wall so no studs. On a hollow wall always go from studs if poss. 👍

I wouldn't particularly advise it unless they're very long as the dot & dab adds about 30mm distance to cover. 👍

It looks fine until you have a collection of the required cables hanging from the TV which convinces me to use a stand.
