- Granny Squares are as quintessentially a part of crochet as the return of song birds are expected to the arrival of spring. I’m so glad you joined me as I walk you through every step you need to make your own Daisy Granny Square, and blanket. This sweet little thrown will remind you of the early flowers of spring as we eagerly await the newness of the season.
For this blanket I used:
~Joann’s Big Twist Value yarn in Varsity Gold (1 skein), Light Green (2 skeins), White (3 skeins), or any worsted weight/4 weight yarn will do
~US I/9 5.5mm crochet hook
~Yarn needle
~Scissors
~Tape measure or ruler
Look for the second video to learn how to join the squares and then add a simple border.
I surely hope you enjoy your time with me, and I can’t wait to hear what you plan to make with your Daisy Granny Squares.

OMG I watched like 20 other videos trying to figure out how to do this and I could not follow along for the life of me. I almost gave up on making daisy squares until I clicked on this video. I made my first daisy square I'm so happy!! Thank you so much for posting this easy to follow tutorial!!
I’m so happy for you! It’s exciting when things just click! I’m grateful to be the one who helped you. Think of all the wonderful things you’ll do next. Many blessings to you and happy crocheting 💖
This video is Fantastic! Clear, easy instructions. I made my first square with this lesson. Thank you!
Yay! Granny squares are so versatile in what you can make with them. I’m so pleased I was able to help you make your first one. Thank you so must for watching and for your support. 💖
Yay! I made my first ever granny squares ( yes more than one 😁) with your beautifully demonstrated and explained video. I have crocheted along with your instructions and watched and re watched this video at least 20 times between the 8 squares to go see the directions again and again ( I think I have information retention deficit) 🤷. Everytime you said "alright?" I nodded my head and said ok/yes. Once i realised I was obediently replying to a video, I had a fun time laughing at myself. Long story short, you are a great teacher. I was so upset when I went to see other videos and saw you have only 7 videos posted. Please consider posting more. I am just a beginner and I really loved the way you made it so easy to follow along with you. I just hope I can persevere till the 48th square.🙂 Thank you.
LOL! I find myself going the same thing watching videos. I am so pleased I was able to help you through your squares. Sometimes when I’m feeling overwhelmed with making so many squares (120 one time 🤪) I do each step all at once before doing the next. Such as, the middle of the daisy, tie off, weave in tails until all the centers are complete. Then the daisy petals, tie off, weave in tails etc. Somehow it makes me feel like I’m getting done quicker. Do you really get done quicker, I don’t know 🤷🏼♀️ I have done all the squares one at a time and get overwhelmed when I have a bazillion tails to weave in! Just find what works for you and have a good time! As for more videos, I do have a couple projects in mind, but do to health issues I just haven’t been able to make them. Check back from time to time so I’ll know how you’re getting along with your crochet journey! 💖
@@sancharimukherjee662 You can do it. I’m on the second blanket with this video, and I still look before I start each section. This is the best video for beginners period. I do wish she’d make more too
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 glad to have read this. I did all the middle of the daisies, then the petals, now I’m sewing in tails then I’ll start the squares.
Thank you thank. Your instructions match my brain !!! Lovin this daisy
This is the first daisy granny square I made when I was a girl. I learned it from my grandmother. I’m glad you like ot too. My goal for my channel is to be as helpful as possible so that everyone can understand crochet and truly see what’s happening with the stitches. I try not to assume someone “just knows” what I’m talking about. You have made my day. Thank you for watching and happy crocheting 💖
Here is the Daisy square you taught me. Thanks again
This blanket is just beautiful.

@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 I will indeed. Thank you.
I started crocheting less than a month ago, this is the best tutorial I've done so far. I was upset when I realized your channel only had a few videos and haven't uploaded in a year! I hope you'll consider posting more again, you're a great teacher. Thank you!
I’m so glad I was able to help you on your crocheting journey. I’ve had another blanket project floating around my head for sometime now but I haven’t been able to get it going due to health issues. Things are looking up and hopefully I can get to it soon. 💖
Watch the teddy bear blanket tutorial!! AMAZING
Thank you for your careful attention to detail, including little tips that are SO helpful to people like me (a beginner!).
You’re welcome. I’m so glad I could help. Thank you for watching 💖
I’m on my second blanket with this video. It’s really good. Thank you
That’s fantastic! Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching 💖
My grandson is having me make one for his girlfriend for a surprise. Not sure if he’ll give it to her as soon as it’s done or for Christmas.
Her favorite colors are red and black. I’m doing the daisies in the normal yellow and white and the rest of the square will be in a color Cranberry (yarn is feels like butter, my grandson picked the yarn too) I’ll be joining the squares in black. I was thinking about doing the border in the cranberry, black and white.
What do you think@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
Love that color combo and the border color choice is great too! I’m sure she will love it. Start your first row of the border with which ever color you decide to use for the joins. It will keep the “frame effect” consistent. For example, I used yellow for the joins and it made the squares have a “frame”. The outer squares needed to have the outermost side completed so my first row (I think I did 3 rows total) of the border I did in yellow. It doesn’t matter how many rows you use for each round of the border, but do at least 2-3 for balance. The rest of the border colors can be done in whatever color choice makes you happy. Borders are so easy to make your own.
I’m so excited for you, your grandson and his girlfriend. Let me know her reaction when she gets it. I’m sure she will love it! 💖
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 I’m joining in black, her favorite colors are black and red. So I’ll start the border in black. I ended up with a lot of white left after the petals. Do you think I should put white in the border with black and res
Also, I had to admit to myself, I’m slow at it. I’m disabled and since getting disability I’ve been severely depressed, felt useless. Then I found crochet 🧶 with my granddaughter. We started with granny squares. Then I found your video and finished the blanket. I would never be able to make money at this. Don’t have the personality or energy for that. And I make stuff way too slow to sell. BUT…. I love it 😍
Just found your video, it is by far the best granny square tutorial I’ve seen! Very easy to follow instructions for someone still learning the stitches and basics. Thank you so much

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking your time to explain this! I know how to crochet some but I tend to forget and I need the different stitches repeated slowly, I’m over 60 so that’s probably why, 😂.

Hello! I just wanted to thank you for this incredibly helpful tutorial! Your instructions were clear, and it was easy to follow along! I decided to learn how to crochet, and yesterday, I made my first ever granny square thanks to you! It turned out perfect! Thanks 🩷💗💟
I’m very happy I was able to help. My intentions for this video is to help beginners on their journey with crochet. I had a very good teacher myself who helped me overcome many years of not really understanding what I was doing and ending up frustrated. She was a blessing to me. Congratulations on your first granny square and I hope you will continue to love this craft for years to come 💖

Kimberly, thank you so so much for this. You are a really great teacher. I love how in depth you are with your instruction and demonstration. Somewhere along the lines here I started to actually understand what I was doing with the stitches and why, structurally. You made it click! I just started crocheting a few days ago and am absolutely obsessed. You have a natural talent for teaching. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all! Much appreciated. Take care and God bless
Your words are so kind, thank you. I love crochet and wanted to teach others to love crochet too. I was frustrated for many years because written patterns were just not clear enough for me to truly understand how to make the pattern work. I eventually found a wonderful woman who made it all make sense. I didn’t want anyone else to feel like they couldn’t do it because they didn’t understand a stitch. Congratulations on your new endeavor and I hope you will only grow in your love for crochet 💖

Where do I get wool from
@janetspring7576 You should be able to buy worsted weight (or #4 weight yarn) at any craft store. This granny square blanket will be lovely in any color you choose. For this blanket, I used 3 skeins of white (380yds/6oz or 347m/170g per skein), 2 skeins of green and 1 skein of yellow. The blanket I made is a lap size or toddler size (43in x 60in or 109cm x 152cm). I got the yarn at Joann stores (US) and it is their brand called Big Twist value yarn. I’ve made this granny square before using Red Heart super saver. Hope this helps 💖

Thanks I got paintbox wool it's great
Thank you for this video! Super helpful
I’m glad to be able to help you! 💖
So I am choosing this as my first granny square! ( Just started 4 days ago) I'm wanting to do a daisy / sunflower pattern blanket. Wondering if I can stitch together any set of squares? Or I guess the better question is IF you could help with showing a sunflower granny square to attach to this daisy one. ( I'm only crocheting to the green) Sorry that's a lot. I'm just really excited to make something and you are so good at walking me through the stitches!
My first granny square was this daisy square! An easy way to do a sunflower is simply change the colors. Brown for the center circle, yellow for the petals. This will keep the squares the same size. When changing the design drastically, you run the risk of altering the size so the squares don’t come together like it should.
I am working on another blanket with sunflowers the are raised up to make a 3D effect. My problem is stitching a “flat” square with the same stitch count. I’ll get it figured out and make a video soon! 💖
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 That's awesome and makes me hopeful I can do it too! Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful work🌻 I really appreciate all your careful instructions have a blessed day

My daughter in low loves sunflowers. Could I just use brown yarn in the middle and yellow for the petals.?
Absolutely! You can use any colors you like. That’s what I love about crochet. One simple design can become any flower you wish 🌼 Get creative and have fun 💖
This blanket and you are so adorable ☺️! I can’t wait to start mine! May I ask how many saques you made to make your blanket? Also, I did subscribe ☺️
I certainly hope I earned your subscribe! 😊. My blanket is more of a lap blanket or toddler sized blanket. Without hunting it down, I believe it was 48, 6 across and 8 down with a 3” border. My squares were about 6”. The math comes out to 42” across and 54” long. Thanks for watching 💖
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 Perfect, thank you so much 🥰!
It's gorgeous!!!!
Thank you so much!
This is perfect ❤
I’m happy you think so 💖
Love the video working on it now. How many granny squares did you do?
I believe I made 48 for the blanket in the video. When you complete your square, measure the size (everyone’s will be a bit different), and calculate how big you want yours to be. Remember that the border will add a few inches to the diameter. I believe I did 6 6” squares per row and 8 rows down for a total of 48 squares. But you can do as many as you want for the size blanket you need.
Beautiful 👌👌👌 design
Thank you so much 💖
Quick question. New crocheter here. Could we just do a double crochet stitch instead of a chain 3 in the magic circle to begin the center of the daisy?
You can, but the dbl crochet at that point will have a different look and height than the others. It will still look fine in the end. Just be careful of where the top of the stitch is so you won’t drop down too far. Doing so will cause a “ripple” effect throughout the project if you continually lower your connecting stitches on subsequent rounds. Using a stitch marker will make it easier to spot the top of the dbl crochet each time around. Hope this helps. 💖
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489Thank you so much for the info.
Hi i loved your video but i was wondering how much yarn you would need to make an adult size
I’m so glad you liked my video! I can’t remember exactly how much yarn I used (I think I put it in the video description). This blanket is child sized or could be just a lap blanket for an adult. To make it bigger, like a large throw blanket, maybe twin bed size, I would just double the amounts indicated. Unfortunately, I’m out of state caring for a relative and don’t have my notebook with me. I wish I could give you more precise amounts. I hope this is helpful none the less. 💖
Do you have to have all the loops? Why not 3 individual trembles? This is hard keeping them all on the hook.
That’s a great question. There are two reasons why you need to have all those loops:
1. If you don’t work up three trebles and then bring them together with the final chain stitch, the trebles will not form the petal shape, and…
2. Because the trebles were not connected to form a petal, you have now created too many stitches on that round, making it very difficult to complete the square. For example: one petal equals one stitch in your count. By not connecting them you would have to work a chain in between the trebles thus increasing that round by one stitch per treble. The result of that will not only make that round wavy, but the next round of granny stitches would not work out to the correct count per row.
Perhaps you could try using a hook that has more space between the hook and flattened area for your thumb. I usually recommend Susan Bates hooks for beginners, but (I believe) Hobby Lobby makes metal hooks with a wooden handle that has a longer neck. This may help you until you get more proficient with holding all those loops on the hook.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you 💖
@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 thank you so much for explaining why.
is there a written pattern for this? I thought I had this pattern several years ago but it was from a different channel?
I apologize for the late response, but no, I don’t have a pattern. Many crocheters have similar daisy granny patterns, so any will do for this blanket. I learned this one from my grandmother many years ago. I guess it’s time for me to jump onto the technology bandwagon and figure out how to share a written version. Thank you for your question and for watching my video. Your support is appreciated so much. 💖
omg i CANT
Yes you can! Even the best crocheters have trouble from time to time. Just take a deep breath and start again. I know you’ll get it and you’ll be able to show off your handmade blanket. 💖
Where do I purchase the amount of green yarn I need?
All the yarn used in this blanket is Big Twist Value yarn by Joann stores. The color is Light Green. If you don’t have a Joann store near you, any 4 weight yarn, like Red Heart, will be fine. Joann also offers shipping so that might be an option for you. 💖

The yarn is a medium #4 weight 💖
Can i make it with fur ?
I would imagine you could if the fur was spun into yarn
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 yes i have fur yarn
@@sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489 it has a proper name but i dont remember
Is it angora yarn? That’s made from Angora rabbits 🐇 . Or perhaps you have Alpaca yarn made from llamas 🦙. Either way, your project can be made from any yarn you choose. However, check the “weight” of the yarn. I used 4 weight or worsted weight. Using a smaller or larger weight will change the size of your squares. Mine are 6 inches square. Alpaca yarn tends to be a 5 or 6 weight so your squares may be 8+ inches square. Angora can be a 2 or 3 weight so the square may be 3-4 inches. If you decide to make a blanket you’ll need to keep the size difference in mind. Angora and Alpaca yarns are wonderful but can be rather costly so keep that in mind too. You may want to consider making a sweater, hat or scarf with these type yarns. Good luck to you with your project. I’m sure whatever you chose will be lovely. 💖
where can I find the written pattern?
I’m very sorry, but I haven’t written it down. I’m not a blogger so I don’t have anywhere to post instructions. This particular daisy granny square has my own personal modifications, but there are many other crocheters that do similar daisy grannies that may have something written for you.
