Brian JONES On EXILE

  • The Rolling Stones were on a roll! Between 1968 and 1972, they put out four albums that many fans say are their greatest, and some even say they're among the best rock albums ever made. Their last album in this amazing streak was a double album called "Exile on Main St." It was a wild ride to close out this epic period, just like you'd expect from the Stones.
Most folks know the story behind the album's name: the band had to leave England for a while because of high taxes, so they rented a place in France to make their music. But even though they were in Europe, the music on "Exile on Main St." is a mix of blues, soul, country, and rock - a sound that's all over the map in the best way possible.
"Shine A Light" is a beautiful and heartfelt song on Exile on Main St. It's a tribute to Brian Jones, a former member of the Rolling Stones who passed away young. Even though the song wasn't released until 1972, Mick Jagger actually began writing it back in 1968 when Brian was still in the band. The lyrics are touching and emotional, and they express feelings that many people can relate to - the loss of a loved one who struggled with addiction. This song is a reminder of Brian's talent and a tribute to his memory."

Dick Taylor played with Mick and Keith but was not in the Rolling Stones. Ian Stewart was the first to respond to Brian Jones's advertisement in Jazz News of 2 May 1962 seeking musicians to form a rhythm & blues group. Brian was the originator. Bill Wyman said. Sure Mick and Keith wrote the songs and they also Ripped Bill and Mick Taylor off ! Bill Wyman has said that he came up with Jumping Jack Flash distinctive main guitar riff on a piano without being credited for it. It's said Mick Taylor co wrote several songs such as , Moonlight mile , Winter and so on but got no credit. Marianne Faithfull said, Ruby Tuesday was mainly Brian's song but he got no credit.

@@SuperAnimelover100 Moonlight mile had apparently been around for a while under the working title of Japanese thing...but yeah I think Winter & Time waits for no-one are Taylor songs....but we're getting away from the point
Mick & Keith would have been in a succesful band & wrote those songs without or without Brian
The band may have had a different name & the journey may be slightly different but there would still be the band we refer to a the Stones in one form or another

This song Jagger wrote was based on the short confession Brian made to him when he was kicked out of his house by his parents, after he had impregnated one of his many girlfriends. He was bumming around Europe just trying to survive by any means.
He told Mick the worst part was after the pubs closed everyone would go to their own homes and Brian would have to sleep outside and when he woke up there were flies all over him. Thus the lyric in the song, "Well you're drunk in the alley baby with your clothes all torn, and your late night friends leave you in the cold gray dawn. Just seen too many flies on you. I just can't brush them off." At the time of Brian telling this tale of woe, Mick said that must've been rough. All Brian said was, "yeah man it was." So Brian was the literal rolling stone, before the Rolling Stones.

Nick Broomfield’s latest movie, The Stones and Brian Jones, concludes with the letter from Lewis Jones being read by the rocker's ex-girlfriend Linda Lawrence, who’d kept it in her attic for decades. It says: “My dear Brian, we have had unhappy times and I have been a very poor and intolerant father in so many ways. You grew up in such a different way than I expected you to. I was quite out of my depth… I don’t suppose you will ever forgive me, but all I ask is for just a little of that affection you once had for me. This is a very private and personal note so don’t trouble to reply. Love, Dad.
