I also love the 15" M3, it's kind of perfect. Despite the first-time-big-step up in CPU-performance which will come in the M4-Air and also the more base-model-cores so more multi-core-performance (which one willl also get from the upcoming snapdragon machines...) I don't think I will upgrade for the next few years, perhaps it again will last me up to ten years, like my old machine. I certainly hope so. On the other hand: While riding the Snapdragon/M4-hype many people kind of forget the big-step up in GPU-performance from M2 to M3: That's not negligable and the M4 won't get a huge GPU-boost it seems, because it'll use a slightly tweaked M3-GPU-module. So it's kind of balanced in performance-boost overall (considering M2->M3 vs. M3->M4), I guess? And by the way I have to say: I like macOS very much. *I was a Windows-user for 20+ years: I still miss some stuff from Windows and the community (like AutoHotKey), but macOS surprised me in many ways and the community is also really awesome, developer-wise. It feels so young and fresh and creative.
PS: I also think it's kind of cool to have this rare N3B-node machine with all it's story - it's a weird and cool historical aspect I think. Best regards Q

How would it handle a workload of editing maybe 25 photos in Lightroom and a browser with 5-10 tabs open? That’s about as “heavy” use as I do. Wondering if the 8GB handles that well.

did you really make the case for an M3 over an M2 or even M1 for a "normal" person, who doesn't produce, videos, etc.????

I agree, this seems like a really poor reason to buy a “new” computer. I get wanting to make content, but at what cost? And how is this helpful to someone buying a new computer?

I cannot believe people are still buying computers with 8GB of RAM in 2024. At this point is completely beyond my capacity to understand it. My M1 Macmini I got back in 2021 had 16 GB of RAM and sometimes I see that RAM has been almost all used up just for having lots of tabs open on the browser and applications opened. At this point Apple has become a joke by selling overpriced computers with 8 GB and 256 SSD drives. I am thinking about getting Linux on a Snapdragon X once available.
