Would be interesting for Ian to fire the UMP and compare it to the MP5! I know he was surprised that the mp5 was as good as advertised so his comparison would be informative.
My old qual shoot for the SMP - MP5 - was a 15cm circle target at 10m in low light, full kit including gas mask. We upgraded to the UMP in .40 cal. We were passing the qual shoot, which was reasonable hard with the MP5 on single shot, on 3 round burst with the UMP. Most accurate, and the most comfortable to hold, weapon I ever used.
I went to an indoor range with an old buddy and he decided to rent a UMP.45 ,best decision of the day ,it was my first time shooting a real full auto smg, it was a fun experience by far. The only down side was the cost of Ammo at the range.
Holy Jesus, I caught your vid at the "uploaded an hour ago" mark! I guess today ain't so bad after all! I wouldn't say the UMP is forgotten, not really. Overlooked by the mp5, yeah probably. It's nice to know that you _do_ in fact leave that auction house every now and then. It's a great video tho Ian, thank you very much. You always bring such interesting things. Thanks!
Hey Ian, I got my copy of Chassepot to FAMAS today. Not quite one to two weeks after all. While I have a cursory knowledge of these weapons thanks mostly to your channel, I look forwards to learning more about them through your book. The volume itself is an aesthetic masterpiece and the quality of construction is high. Congratulations on a job well done and I hope you enjoy the continuing satisfaction of informing and educating others.
Now I realized that makers of Counter-Strike implemented this single-shot accuracy in the game - no matter what you do (even jumping) the first shot from the UMP is always on point.
We have already made the perfect submachine gun. What do? We can make it maybe cheaper? Instead of metal, we use plastic. Instead of roller delayed blowback... uh... put powder in the bolt.
We have one at the shop I work at. In years of use it's only needed one $12 recoil buffer and it's been perfectly reliable. It's incredibly controllable and actually more fun than most others.
@cody sonnet yeah I've seen that too, not an issue with full autos but the semi auto conversion is flawed by cz in it's out of battery safety mechanism or lack of effective one. Seems binary triggers are the ones that blow up
I do also remember hearing that they wanted versions in .357 mag but I don't know if they ever got off paper. Would be interesting to hear about those or other magnum chambered SMGs!
In France, the Police and the Gendarmerie both use the UMP, un both 9mm and 45 acp. They also use the Berretta M12, I think they like the idea of a slow firing smg for police use (I'm not aware of they were ever used but...)
UMP designer: I’ve finished the Mp5 replacement. Boss: okay, what did you do to improve upon the design of the greatest SMG in the history of the world? Designer: improve? Uh... I gave it a LRBHO. Boss: okay. Anything else? Deisigner: uh... it’s made of polymer so it should be lighter. Boss: o...Kay... anything else improved? Designer: no, every single other thing about it is worse. Geralt: fuck.
Fake Name literally because it is. The simple blowback means it is practically unusable in full auto. I’ve fired both. The MP5 is excellent. The UMP, while fun at the range, is not something I’d actually want to use. Also the one improvement (LRBHO) didn’t work reliably on the two (.40 and .45) I shot. And before you suggest that the reason the UMPs were more of a handful because they were in bigger calibers than 9mm, even the HK53 was less of a handful than the UMPs, and it’s basically a 5.56 mp5.
I used the UMP .45 at work and it is by far my most favorite gun ever. It is the easiest gun to shoot and amazing accurate out to 100 yards. I have shot 10s of thousands of rounds out of the one I used not ever one malfunction

Ah, Germany. God bless their little clockwork hearts.
This is one of those guns that are seen the most in films and games.
I just wish someone would make a UMP for less than 2k.
Yeah might as well 2nd round buy the deag
@Omne Obstat *Shot them
@Omne Obstat I believe that is only in your head if you do it in reality XD
Hysteria357 when I say less than 2k I’m thinking like 12-1500 not 1850 for it without a brace.
@@Possumsmith-l8d You can get them for around $1695 from Atlantic Firearms. I don't know how good an Omega Gideon Shadow is though.
I picked up a usc a month ago. Moved to Texas and did the ump conversion. Mags in the mail! I'll be shooting it for the first time next week
It seems like almost everything HK makes is really elegantly designed.

Gun Jesus has become my favorite UA-camr over the past few days.
I'm German so I don't have a need for a firearm at all, but learning about guns irl is so darn interesting.
Thanks for making so many videos! I learned a lot!

Many moons ago, I shot my first two full-autos at a shooting range: a 9mm MP5 and a .40 S&W UMP. While the two guns laid there side-by-side on the bench, I could have sworn I heard the MP5 say to the UMP: "Sohn, ich bin enttäuschen."
Ian really, REALLY got a large amount of material from H&K's grey room. Absolutely fantastic stuff as always Ian!
"wandering off a bit" Dude, wander all you like. It's all good.

@TheT34Tank Glass? Who gives a shit about glass?
I don't think the UMP is meant to be slapped, as there's a notch on the handle slide to discourage that [ie 2:54]
@@Shepard_AU Why discourage that behavior when H&K themselves flat says that's how you operate the weapon? Now get on your bike and piss off.

rumors say ian hides a tent in the H&K Grayroom
The integrated dead-blow bolt was really interesting to see. I didn’t know that was a thing.
That's a feature in the Ruger PC Carbine bolt too, but they do it a bit differently with a solid tungsten weight.
I really appreciate how the channel is spreading to more popular guns as well. Your videos are easy to follow and offer very entertaining knowledge.
Brings back MW2 memories.
It's either that, a MAC10 or an Uzi that people think of when you say "submachinegun".
Still, it's nice to see you back in that H&K grey room. It's nice to know that you _do_ in fact leave that auction house every now and then.
It's a great video tho Ian, thank you very much. You always bring such interesting things. Thanks!
A lot of the guns he features are in fact the opposite of forgotten, not just this one
When I was at HK the guys said that Ian did all the recording in a day or so and that he would release videos over time.
69deputy what? Are you saying he’s been in that grey room for like a day or just a weekend?
Hey Ian, I got my copy of Chassepot to FAMAS today. Not quite one to two weeks after all. While I have a cursory knowledge of these weapons thanks mostly to your channel, I look forwards to learning more about them through your book. The volume itself is an aesthetic masterpiece and the quality of construction is high. Congratulations on a job well done and I hope you enjoy the continuing satisfaction of informing and educating others.
This isn't my introduction, Battlefield 4 where every engineer for a year was using this frikken thing
I love this gun in game. Usually high powered with a slightly smaller mag
2:07 doesn't have the same ring as "RTFM"
That relization that taking apart a UMP makes it look like an MP5K. really liked that design.
Now I realized that makers of Counter-Strike implemented this single-shot accuracy in the game - no matter what you do (even jumping) the first shot from the UMP is always on point.
@@oktayyildirim2911 geberally yeah, that was an exception IIRC. Too lazy to look it up and its been a while since 1.6
@@MightySavagE Wow, I feel like a total jackass. You're right-in the GoldSrc games, the first shot in each magazine actually is perfectly accurate.
oh this weapon has not been forgotten
Metal powder in a gun. Space technology indeed.
We have already made the perfect submachine gun. What do?
We can make it maybe cheaper? Instead of metal, we use plastic. Instead of roller delayed blowback... uh... put powder in the bolt.
This thing is a really awesome looking piece of engineering, I always loved it
5:28 "...and ze bolt doubles as a shaker, for jam sessions during ceasefeuers."
Got to fire one at Kirkuk AFB around 2007, the resident SF team there had a .45 acp model in the team armory. Nice gun.
UMP 40 is [REDACTED]
>:(
We have one at the shop I work at. In years of use it's only needed one $12 recoil buffer and it's been perfectly reliable. It's incredibly controllable and actually more fun than most others.
Never have I been this early before. This was a good day, especially when it's an UMP video.
I have recently started playing UMP in new Modern Warfare and this video suddenly showed up today.
You truly ARE a Gun Jesus.
Sorry I couldnt stop staring at that beauty on the wall above ur left shoulder.
Our left or his left. Because that g36 is what ive been looking at
I do really like those USP's
It's cool that HK applied the deadblow hammer concept to the bolt. Its something you would not expect
I get the impression that Ian is one of the few non-H&K employees to have unrestricted access to that grey room.
Just ordered Chassepot to FAMAS and now my favourite sub-gun. Good day.
Wow the cz evo 3 truely is a slimmed down ump
Saw article, that Finnish Police is thinking of changing MP5´s to EVO 3.
The evo 3 is an angry ump
@cody sonnet yeah I've seen that too, not an issue with full autos but the semi auto conversion is flawed by cz in it's out of battery safety mechanism or lack of effective one. Seems binary triggers are the ones that blow up

I've seen this gun through countless media. My buddy always uses this gun in MW 2 and 3.

In France, the Police and the Gendarmerie both use the UMP, un both 9mm and 45 acp. They also use the Berretta M12, I think they like the idea of a slow firing smg for police use (I'm not aware of they were ever used but...)
You should've seen it in MW2 with silencer.
That bolt is awesome. Kinda like a dead low hammer. Very clever
MP5 is just smaller G3
UMP is just smaller G36

The UMP's bolt has a surprising large amount of machining for a simplified design.
Geralt: fuck.
>every single thing about it is worse
Literally how
Fake Name literally because it is.
This gun is beautiful in every way.
4:56 The horrors of "value engineering"
I used the UMP .45 at work and it is by far my most favorite gun ever. It is the easiest gun to shoot and amazing accurate out to 100 yards. I have shot 10s of thousands of rounds out of the one I used not ever one malfunction
