- In this video I will show some interesting features that you did not know about your Volvo.
1. How to reset message "time for regular maintenance"
2. Shift to "N" Neutral when engine will not start.
3. Manually open gas door.
4. Windshield wipers in service position.
5. Interesting operation of brake lights while transporting with open boot.
6. Tilting and folding mirrors when parking. - Авто та транспорт
Thank you!! I tried following 5+ other videos on resetting the service reminder that didn’t work until I found this one and it finally did :) quick and easy to follow
Just got a Volvo for myself and i have to say the mirror tip was super useful!
In the main menu (the autoradio display), mirrors can be set to autofold when you lock the car.
Extremely helpful, I would have spent hours reading the manual to learn what you taught me in minutes. Thank you
Great tips about modern Volvo’s. After 3 years of ownership of a V40, I am still finding out about its features from watching your video’s and then applying them to my car. Many thanks.
I must congratulate you on your outstanding, professional grade videos. I hope Volvo HQ in Sweden is giving you an "attaboy" on these too. I own a 2009 like yours only with black lower interior, brushed aluminum trim (instead of the wood look) and a tan headliner. Your hidden secrets are amazing. I can't believe these arein the owner's documentation. I am going to read the owners manual from beginning to end to refresh my memory with your secrets. I had no idea any of these features even existed. I have never owned a Volvo until I bought mine used 2009 from a friend last year with only 80,000 km on it. It had never seen winter until I bought it. He is the original owner and he wintered in Naples Florida. The car was stored in a heated underground condo parking lot during the Canadian winters. My XC70 is equipped the some Thule add-ons (roof boxes - Thule 612 Hyper XL in silver and black large that matches my paint and the low profile Thule Flow 606). I also have the Thule EasyFold 9032 bike rack that mounts in the hitch receiver and carries two mountain bikes. I will be posting some pictures of my configuration once the snow melts here in Toronto. All of my interior car mats including the rear cargo area are custom designed by WeatherTech. I have one set for winter and another lighter set for the warmer weather. Barry T.
Had my car for 3 years, did not know about the side mirrors. Many thanks.
Thank you, as an owner since '88! I think the maintenance cut off and brake light tail up were my favorites. Stay well!
Great tip on the wiper blades. I have always popped the hood to gain access to the wipers - your way is better. My XC90 mirrors fold automatically, but sometimes they fold by themselves and you cannot get them to return to their normal position. It took me a call to Volvo to discover the "press both mirrors" buttons to get them to return to their normal position. Thanks
Thank you , thank you, and thank you! I finally got my message of “service” off! My husband changes my oil on my s80 and this light has been on for years! Hahaha. Much appreciate 😉
Just followed your instructions on resetting the service light, it works on my 2008 S80. Thank you, great videos keep them coming. :)
So few people read the owners manual. You are a great resource. Much appreciated!
I just purchased a 2010 XC70 T6 and I love seeing videos like this. Beats going through the manual to discover cool stuff. Cheers!
Wow, thank you so much! Learned a lot of features about my car I have had for 9 years
Damn ! I've just realised this few function. I'm owning a S60. Thanks for sharing, Sir
Hi i have got S60 D2 volvo, do u know how to read message or how to delete them?
This is the most brilliant education channel which i ever seen...
After your tutorial i am after buying v70...
Thanks a lot
I have recently purchased a 2010 xc70 with 67k. Original owner, looks brand new! I loved it yesterday, and love it now even more since I found your channel. I have always worked on all my vehicles and thought, I may not do so well with this…you’ve fixed that! Thank you and to answer your question….I knew none of these, but knew them on all my other cars! Thank you for the time it takes to do this, no small feat in itself.
Thanks for the tip with the mirror going down when you reverse. I used to own a VW and this is a standard feature... but I didn’t know my Volvo has it as well.
I LOVE this enterior sooooooo much!!!
I have a 2008 XC-70 and agree with you! Everyone that has ridden in it says the seats are very comfortable too! Cheers!
Because I'm a Volvo owner for many years, I love all your videos. They are so informative and the video quality is fantastic.
Also own a 2009 XC70 T6. Love watching your videos as they are usually thorough and helpful. This one is much the same. Thank you.
I love your videos! I thought I read the manual properly, but obviously I missed some parts. The windswiper-feature is great - I was wondering about the annoying design which I didn't encounter in other cars. But this way it makes sense! The previous owner obviously also didn't know about it, as the hood already has some damage at the edge where the swipers touch it.
As a fairly new Volvo driver i found this video very useful. Ive read about wiper service position and mirrors in the manual, but the rest i did not know about. Thank you!
Grybinas Thx for the feedback.
Thank you for your input on the features that Volvo supplies us with! Awesome Job!
Thanks to your video I now know all of the things you showed in the video. The only two things I did not know was the break/tail light work with the hatch open and the gas door 'hidden opener', now I know. Thank you , Bill
"I never knew of this feature until I open the owners manual". What a great reminder! (lol, seriously). I didn't know about the wipers service position; neither the tail lights working as brake lights with the tailgate open. (It didn't apply to my vehicle, S-80).
Very informative, detail oriented, and easy to follow video.
Thank you
😍😀
Your videos are always of very high quality and very informative.
And most of the stuff you talk about also carries over to my S80 of the same generation.
Keep em' coming!
+04aEEPP Yep! Thx
@@volvosweden got a 2010 XC60 my roof courtesy lights also visor lights not working while floor and rear inside back hatch light working checked all fuses there good also power window button not working
Another great video! I knew most of these, except the wiper service position and the neutral switch. Not sure how I missed those in my manual. I usually study them thoroughly. Thanks, again!
This video is really very useful. I especially liked the folding mirror how to do. Thank you for reading the manual and telling us these helpful hints. great job and many thanks.
Love the windshield wiper service position! I didn't know that one!
I drive audi a3 right now and after watching this video i found out that its the same on it. Probably all VAG autos where you can raise the windshield vipers
@@edvinas8621 but Volvo isn’t VAG but yes if Audi does it then other VAG cars will.
It was really helpful , as usual .Thanks a lot dude !!!
Just picked up a 2011 S60 Volvo and your video thought me so much. I'm still reading through the owners manual but with work there isn't enough time to learn everything. 7 mins and I learned several thing's. Thanks buddy
THANK YOU! I was looking for how to turn off the maintenance light and had no idea those other features were available at all! I'll be experimenting with them as soon as I have a minute to sit and try them!! Especially liked the windshield wiper feature - good to know when there's freezing rain in the forecast!
Gas tank mechanical opener is sometimes (very rarely though) handy in icy weather conditions. Like here in Finland!
PS. Your vids. are great !!
+maxxiimus Excellent tip. Thx
Yes same here in sweden. Have to use it at least once every winter.
Okay
I also used it, this winter. But it was here, In Czech republic!!
I found out mirrors parking function about 2 years ago, by being bored in my volvo while waiting for my wife. I was always wondering how many owners know about that function. it was my personal "holy grail" hahaha no more , BTW You are doing awesome job ! keep it up
Congratulations for the video. I have just bought my first Volvo XC60 in Brazil, and even after reading all manuals, your instructions were helpfull. Thanks a lot!!! Keep on publishing new Volvo videos. Laurence. Brazil.
This was very informative. I did not know about the brake light feature when the tailgate was open. What a great and very Swedish safety idea. As you say, the owners manual has a lot of useful information and now I will go out and see if my 2014 XC60 right-hand drive model has the same features
Thanks for the tips, I greet from Poland
I knew pretty much most of the video. I'm on my third volvo in 32 years. The thing I wanted to mention, that folding mirrors is available ONLY in certain model packages. My 2012 s80 does not have folding mirrors. I have to fold them by hand. It does have the memory like shown for tilting the mirror lenses. Nice video.
Did know about resetting service reminder, didn't know about wiper service position, didn't know about reversing mirrors but did know about folding in/out. Didn't know about brake lights with tailgate up, excellent video, thank you!
Worked perfectly. I've tried several maintenance reminder clearing suggestions for my 2013 S60 T5 AWD and this was the first to work. You are a problem solver, many thanks. Now, if Volvo would have solved the oil ring issue for the T5 engine of this year, I'd be a happy owner.
Really useful tips I had no idea, thank you so much, look forward to more in the future,
Informative video, as a new volvo user these tips are very helpful
You are full of helpful Volvo info! We purchased 2nd hand XC 70 eight years ago, and have been very pleased with the car. However, I am not so good with reading the manual and utilizing the info. You have presented the above info in a VERY clear manner, and I will be checking into your site in the future. Thanks, Cindy
Just found this searching for the maintenance reset feature. The only tip I knew was the wing mirror functions. Everything was new so thank you.
Brilliant. I always wanted to know how to fold my mirrors. Thanks
Thanks for your work here very interesting, I recently had a alternator issue which resulted in a flat battery and could not get gear lever out of park, even the RAC recovery didn't know that trick with key, we had to jump car to pull my car onto recovery truck bed.
Great info for my 2014 XC70 that I recently bought, thank you !
Thank you. Didn't know ANY of those very useful features. Have just bought a March 2014 XC60 with ACC, BLIS and the features are just excellent
I have a 2000 Volvo S70, and has this same kind of genius features! Good to know they are still on their game!
Very nice video, i'm going to pick up my New volvo s80 tomorrow! Can't wait for it!! Greets from Belgium
+azk05 Nice!!!
Love your videos, learn a great deal!
Am driving my 4th Volvo and never knew of these features. Thank you for publicizing
Best explanation on the web for xc70. Volvo should sponsor you.
Good tips ......and thats a nice Volvo in your garage
Very good video. You have all kind of good tips!
I knew about the trick with putting the wipers up for switching blades, etc. However, everything else was a revelation. This was a really well made video and I found it very informative. Thanks for making and sharing.
Great video I’ve recently purchased the XC70 myself and this video has shown me a lot of things I didn’t know it could do thanks
Mirror feat. is only available with powerseats.
Then you also have the built in fault code reader, but that isn´t mentioned in the OM :-)
Good work love your videos, keep it up!!
how do you access/operate this built in fault code reader? I never knew about that...
Great, gonna reset the service reminder. i service my car at volvo about once each year, normaly in the spring time to make sure the car is fit to pull my caravan. altho i do minor "service" on the car now and then but since i drive so much with it the service light comes on after a cupple of months since my last service. good to know i can turn it off.
Mind blown! I did not know any of these features but am SO glad you made this video. It has already been so helpful, thanks!
THANK YOU!
OMG! Last time Good Year changed the oil for $100 and they could not reset the service reminder in 30 minutes!!!! Thank to you I did in 3 minutes. From now on I am in charge.
You inspired me to do my 1st personal hands on oil change tomorrow and I'm over 50.
Dealership wants to charge $110 plus I would have to drive 2:40 minutes round trip costing around $90 plus the wait time probably another 2-3 hours. I have the Castrol Edge oil and the filter for $50. So basically Doing the job myself saves me $150 minus my work. Still at least $100.
Another great video Volvosweden thank you. I did not know that mirrors would dip in reverse I have missed this feature from my S60 on which I had the CFE from volvo tech. Also I knew about the wipes service position but have never been able to do it - now I can thank you. Would love to see more videos like this and I can't wait for you to do your steering wheel as it's a mod I would like to do. Also I do prefer the videos with your commentary. Cheers 👍
+Robert Witherden Excellent feedback. Steering wheel is on its way from Sweden. I will do my best to do commentary on every video.
Thank you for the feedback.
My 2013 Volvo V60 doesn't have the mirror feature. I assume it was because it doesn't have memory power seats/mirrors for each driver. I do miss it as it helps parallel parking and helps avoid hitting the rims.
Very informative...Nice work’ clear and easy to understand.
This was so cool. I've been a Volvo owner for over 10 years and I did not know about the taillights and that the mirrors changes the view.
Gotta try this on my new Volvo XC60 I'm picking up this friday. Awesome video
Very useful, I did not know about the breaklights, the mirrors folding and the tank opener. Thanks for posting!
Some good tips here. I'm going to try the single parking mirror tip. Having used the double parking mirror feature for years I turned it off as it took too long to reset and I like being able to use the mirror when pulling out in traffic as well as turning my head to see.
I wouldn't call the brake lights function a safety feature though, if you are driving with your boot open there is a possibility of drawing in exhaust gases into the vehicle.
Keep up the good work!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Fantastic info as always!
I needed to know how to reset the service interval and now i know!
The only thing i actually knew out of those tricks was how to manually fold the mirrors and i got them to move in reverse on their own once, but never again and i never understood why, but now it makes sense! :)
I knew non of these features - all of your Volvo videos are very informative, and you have debunked a lot of the myths that had me not liking my wife's xc70. I just believed it when people said there was very little you could work on yourself
Cool features, i didn't know any of that. I should read the manual but its so thick, I got discouraged, Volvo should make a cliff notes version, lol
I have a 2012 XC70, and just as you say, I can use the L & R buttons to lower the mirrors, or press both to fold them. I can also go into the car’s settings and indicate that I want either or both mirrors to lower automatically when the car is put in reverse, and I can also indicate that I want the side mirrors to automatically fold when I put the car in park.
I imagine this is the same for other years and trim levels.
raganwald Yep!
You do need a specific trim level for that. My XC did it I think, not sure. My S80 does not >.
It might be a model year thing, what year is your S80? Ours is a last of the P2 '06 registered model, D5 SE Lux, and not sure if it does the dipping thing yet. I believe it can be programmed on VIDA/DICE though if it's not enabled.
OK just checked, so late P2 S80 in SE Lux UK spec does not have either dipping side mirrors or auto window up/down enabled despite having most other stuff, still believe it's an option through VIDA/DICE though. Will update if/when I get a copy.
Thank you and I appreciate your knowledge and patience for reading the manual for us! There’s one thing I would like to bring up. And that is the codes that I can access, but have no idea what they stand for. That is the DTHS codes and others.
Well done! I have been driving a Volvo for a long time, but some of the features detailed here are just new to me!
Useful video . Didn't know about brake light when tailgate is open .Thanks
+Phil Fearn Excellent. Working on part two.
That means that the taillight update you also can make all the lights break instead off only the top ones.
But is it legal to drive on the road in USA with opened tailgate?
I didnt know about the message reminder reset, thanks.
Same here. Just reset mine finally!
I just bought a 2011 S80 and I am discovering many cool features. Your videos will come in handy for alot of the service.. Thank you.
Oh my gosh thank you for the mirror trick! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve thrown my purse in the back, got in the driver seat and realize the mirrors were still folded while the car was running and I couldn’t figure out any other way to open them without locking the doors, putting the key Outside the car, and opening the door to make the mirrors come back out!
Very good & informative video. Thanks a lot. Keep them coming. I have 2011 S80.
1to ask: when parking at R gear I press right rear mirror button the mirror moves downward and inward (toward the car) but the left rear mirror moves downward and outward (away from the car). Is this the original setting? I would prefer left rear mirror would also move inward (towards the car) is there a way to set it?
2to share: (stg simple but nice)
A.when your car is not working and you open the trunk back brake lights light up to make sure your car becomes visible and protects the person at the back.
B.Electric hand break P releases itself automatically if you fasten seat belt and press gas after starting the engine.
I love the simple dash display on Volvo cars. I love that a Volvo 240dl saved my parents life's. The highway patrol officer said any other car you'd be killed. No joke Volvo's are solid well built cars.
This was extremely useful and I thank you for letting us know features I personally did not know about my XC70. Thank you for making these videos!
I reset my Maintenance Overdue feature this morning thanks to you, so Thank You very much for that. We've own three Volvo's and will buy a fourth when it's time to. I love my car already, but I love it a little more thanx to you. The windshield wiper feature will come in handy when washing the car. That always annoyed me, but not anymore.
Thank you very much
Brilliant, thank you so much
Did not know all these features, thank you my man
I love my Xc70 even more now 😇👍🏻
ВОЛЬВО 💖👍👍👍
Such a beautiful car!
I just bought an 09 XC70 T6 almost identical to yours except I'm blue with your interior. I bought it as a winter beater. It has high kms(250k), but I know that's nothing for this car. Thank God I found your channel! You have helped me so much!. Glad to see you're in Manitoba too. I'm in ON.
very cool. like the first tip and also about the mirrows. I have a XC60 T6 2010
In addition you can access mirror fold and reversing “Dip” feature through the My XC70 interface screen in the dash.
Later models only.
Through this you can have mirrors dip automatically upon reverse without touching mirror buttons ever.
Upon selecting drive they revert to previous normal position.
Hmm i have XC60 -13 how do you do that?
Why tf am I watching this!? I don't even own a Volvo!!!!
I dont either:)
@@volvosweden lmfao
@@volvosweden have you sold it?
No. I own it.
So, get a Volvo :)
Hello Volvosweden thanks for another great video. My v70 mirrors did dip on reversing, but on going forwards had to press button again to reset. No big deal and useful to know. Thanks 👍
The green pull for the fuel flap is really useful.... I had the light come fuel flap moduel go wrong on me and you need this to get the fuel flap open to get fuel in. The Volvo garage manager didn't know about this when mine went wrong...thanks for the tips.
automatic mirrors, parking for many only work in the version with electrically adjustable seats
True, as our V60 doesn't have auto seats and it can be a pain in the ass sharing as I find the reach awkward and miss the mirror function reversing. Not a deal breaker though as the V60 is a great car!
Artur ohhhh
I got my answer
Thanks mate...!!
True. My s80 3.2 has electric adjustable seat. I don't have the electric folding mirrors though.
I own a manual trans V70iii MY2008 with elec.seats and this works awesome on both mirrors ;-) Grtz from Holland
msw600 my XC70 and S60 R-Design is nearly fully loaded and neither have have the folding mirror from the button.. the S60 however when you park it the mirrors do auto fold in but on buttons you can’t do that.. my XC70 Volvo also only does the right side mirror down from the button not left side and no folding option.... both cars have electric seats all around and winter packages too!
I asked the dealership they plugged into the computers and said they cannot change the parameters on my wagon and they did confirm it should be able to. However I do have a V90 and that does all these things and has those Swedish flags tugged into corners I assume means export market car.. I got it used (dealer owned) for amazing deal, $38,000 fully loaded!
You can gently tap on accelerator to release electronic parking brakes instead of pulling the parking brakes. However, the following 3 conditions must apply to make it work: -
1. Engine is turned on.
2. Transmission is in D or R
3. Seatbelt is fastened
Great im going to try this later thanks
this actually works on the manual trans too ;-)
I'm grateful for you. I love my Volvo even more now.
Did not know any of these! Three time volvo owner. Thanks so much
Did you know that you can open and close your Windows with your Key? Just hold down the unlock botton for 3-4sek and your front windows will go down, and if you hold down the lock botton your windows will go up :)
+Alexander Johansson This does not work on my XC70! I did try. It even does not appear in owners manual.
I do want to reprogram it at the dealer because its a really nice option to have.
Alexander Johansson but also the rear windows open/close. Also the moonroof will close but not open.
Alexander Johansson you may need to RESET the rear window feature??
volvosweden Hmm strange I tought every XC/V70 had that option but maybe they changed it on the export models :s Its a really nice option, Its so annoying if you forget the windows down and have to go back to the car and put in the key in the ignition and roll them up xD
It is. All my Volvos have done this and I tested my sister's VW Golf, works too. Must be software needed. My auto window wouldn't go up without keeping my finger on it. This was after a software up date. I tried re-setting it to no avail. The Volvo garage had to give it a little software patch!
Firstly: How on earth did UA-cam come to put this in my recommends? I've been looking at XC70s in the UK in Autotrader, but I don't use Google, I use Firefox and DDG.
Time for a VPN perhaps?
Secondly: I had convinced myself to go for the older, simpler model, 2004-2007, 185bhp D5. Now I see how cool the newer models are... bugger!

Owned my 2012 XC60 for 7 weeks now. I read the owner's manual but still didn't know about the manual fuel door opener. Very nice to have that redundancy. Pretty much everything you said here is in the manual though. I guess the point of the video is always read your manual!!! Mu XC60 has a settings menu where you can program the mirrors to do that every time you put it in reverse. Not sure if it will do it at the touch or l or r mirror button though. Will have to try! Would be very useful as a rideshare driver!
8 years with s80 and I did not know some of these. Thank you..
So, i learned i dont need to open the owners manual, since we got youtube these days.
First page of owners manual. "Please read this before you drive your car ". The entire internet. "I didn't know my car could do that ".
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Was ready to lose my mind trying to figure out the resetting of the repair message
Thank you for sharing! I did read manual before, but did not pay enough attention for those nice features.
