I got introduced to Tomb Raider via Underworld and later played Legend as well. However, Anniversary wasn't really a game I liked as I could never make it past the dinosaurs!
Whoever did the character design Lara was absolutely brilliant! It's sexy but not straight up porno trashy, fashionable but not too over the top. I can respect what they were trying to do with her character back in the day.
She was never porno trashy. Some people just have a problem with female leads who happen to have a large bust size. Somehow having a smaller chest size became associated with female empowerment in the early 2010's, and so classic Lara became sexist. Which is dumb as hell. Some of the design choices for her seemed a bit silly (CGI Lara in the first game especially) and the short shorts were better suited for hiking rather than spelunking...some of the story elements seemed a bit...uncomfortably or obnoxiously gratuitous... but fortunately those were brief and few. It's good that they never focused much of the dialogue on her appearance and kept it focused on the story despite some of marketing's decisions back in the 90's. I'm more bothered by the changes to her personality over the years. The changes to her appearance are more of an annoyance due to the fact that it just seems like they had to tone her down as a whole in order to not offend certain audiences (girls that weren't gamers in the 90's who focused solely on her appearances) that felt she was nothing more than fanservice which put unhealthy expectations on young women by men.) All they did was make Lara weaker as a character, which is pretty un-feminist and detracts from any sort of female empowerment she had going for her from the 90's if you ask me. She was confident, intelligent, and strong-willed who happened to look like a model in terms of physique. She wasn't a bumbling second-wheel damsel trying to live up to someone else's expectations who couldn't follow through on anything or reluctantly doing so. She wasn't bogged down in pointless romance plots, and she never had to resort to exploiting sexuality to come out on top in a situation. And they just completely did away with all of that. It was stupid of them.
It’s literally the same design as the original with more polygons for a smoother more human look lol. If anything, it should be MORE “porno trashy” to you. Both were feminine James Bond in female form before Crystal Dynamics decided to ruin her to pander to whiny babies about her appearance with the newest reboot that stripped her both of her femininity and her boss personality.
Legend's outfit is just as skimpy as the classic outfit Underwolrd's wetsuit is skimpier than the ones in TR2 & AOD the LAU games had bonus bikinis that can be unlocked
I will always feel that Underworld was what the original series was trying to be, grand, mysterious worlds, tons of exploration and a great story with great gameplay.

Hell, at the time I didn't even know Anniversary was a remake of an older game. I just thought it was its own thing.
Legit same scenario as you described here 😅. The legend trilogy will always hold a special place in my heart for this reason. Finishing the storyline, and realising that all those adventures where lara had been seeking out what happened to her mother, had all been for nought, was very soul crushing. And the feeling isn't redeemed by the further accruals of conquest and tomb raiding she conducts after the series, because it kind of loses meaning after that.
Great video, would like to point out that the Croft Manor has books mentioning The Dagger of Xian, The Maria Doria, The Meteorites and Angkor Wat, implying that the flashback events of The Last Revelation happened in some way in this continuity besides her future plans regarding the other lost artifacts, so it's safe to assume the events of II and III also happened in between Anniversary and Legend. Also connections between Legend and Anniversary, Amanda has crates that say "Natla Technologies" and Natla mentions while talking to Lara that it takes "three" to reign.
Anniversary is by far my favorite TR game, the best classic Tomb Raider experience. Always hoped they'd continue on with the same treatment for TR2, but no such luck.
I liked anniversary, but I really don't think it can be called a "classic" TR experience. Crystal Dynamics wanted to separate themselves from Core so much that they ended up making a completely different game. It's a good game if you consideritby itself alone, but it's far off from being faithful to the original when compared imo.
i think the climb is kind janky in anniversary (only the ropes was a step forward in relation to legends imo) and there is only animals and dinosaur to kill in the whole game, its gets a little boring
@@johnbon7369 I actually think Anniversary improves on TR1 in almost every aspect. Take Midas' Palace, for example. The statue was a joke in TR1. You could only see the feet and one hand. I always thought Natla was a villain worth more than a single game. Not just cause she was the OG, but an ancient scheming being like that is just more. Also, her Hela inspired injured face was perfect for her return.
I adore this trilogy. Legend and AoD made me discover the Tomb Raider series and I love them. The only thing that bugs me is Lara's age during Anniversary adventure: if we consider her birth year as 1977, then she would has been 19 when she was doing the Scion quest (which took place in 1996). Isn't she still young to look so experienced about exploring tombs and fighting?

Oh I know everything about the original legend timeline of Tomb Raider, back then Lara Croft was a badass adventuer unlike the reboot version of today!
I was confused about Lara's father in this timeline. So, Natla asked him to find the Scion but he failed so she asked him to find Thor's hammer instead? Or is it one or the other? Weird
She could have asked him to find both of them, or even after he failed to find the Scion, but she didn't get rid of him because of how useful he was, so she asked him to find Thor's hammer instead, with the reasoning that even if he didn't find the items that she wanted him to find, she could still use any information that he gathered during his digs to make it easier for her hired help to find the items, or she could get other adventurers and archaeologists to find the items using the information that he had gathered. We don't really get told if there is a time limit for the collection of these items, so it is possible that, after his failures, she could have waited until she had better technology, resources and techniques to use.
Here's how I think about this. OG timeline is the OG timeline. The legend timeline is an alternate timeline where her parents were also explores. Because of her drastic look change survivor timeline is her daughter either from the legend timeline or the OG timeline.
Hey, guys! Hats off to both of you! You both are huge inspirations for me when I make videos and I hope to one day be as amazing as you!!! It is my dream to one day meet you both and have a talk, so can you please fullfill this?

now that I finally finished Underworld I can now watch this but, boy, I really liked some aspects of Underworld but the story is really not one of them. Its like some weird fanfic and barely connects to Legend at all
I wish they’d continue the game starting after Underworld. The survivor series are great, but it kind of strips Lara of everything she ever was in a lot of ways.
Back in the days I was really fascinated by the Legend story, but I felt Underworld retconned and screwed it all up. It was what changed me from a naive youngster to a cynical adult. For most people of my generation it was The Phantom Menace that did that, for me it was Tomb Raider Underworld...
90's TRs were the ones that gave the unique feeling of "not being held by the hand while playing" and new techs ruined that. Crazy to say but... TR games should be like when Lara's squares world
Sad they didn't continued after Angel of Darkness but reboot the timeline but this wasn't bad but wish they could've continue the classic timeline still.
What kind of crazy metaphysics does a universe have when Lara has seen that so many different mythologies are true and she has experienced so many supernatural events?
Still like this trilogy, played the originals (up until 2 or 3)when they came out; but these were still thematically similar - but had adapted to modern control conceits; cant go back to the tank controls of the first ones now. Naughty Dog obviously riffed on these for Uncharted, and the favour was returned for the survivor trilogy. I do wish they'd tone down the third person action-cover shooter and focus more on the large environmental puzzles tho.
it was herself! i won’t get too much into it for the sake of spoilers but there’s time shenanigans in the last cutscene of TR Legend. Until the reveal though the game really had me thinking she was the chosen one or something lol
Sometime when Lara is 35 years old. The Survivor version of Lara Croft was born on Valentine's Day in 1993, that means Angel of Darkness would have to be set in 2028, contradicting the game's plot.

With the new unified timeline, they may do just that. There's already one profoundly stupid change to Lara's character that was leaked.
Is it me or are all these games being recorded in the highest graphic preset or edited because I’ve never seen these games look this good?
The benefits of playing on pc!
Your videos are like an art 💕🥰 Such a nostalgy
Legend is my favourite game by far
*Excellent video!*
Glad you liked it!
Here's how I think about this. OG timeline is the OG timeline. The legend timeline is an alternate timeline where her parents were also explores.
Because of her drastic look change survivor timeline is her daughter either from the legend timeline or the OG timeline.
that some huge amount of luck finding the ghalali key after all those years.
Hey, guys! Hats off to both of you! You both are huge inspirations for me when I make videos and I hope to one day be as amazing as you!!! It is my dream to one day meet you both and have a talk, so can you please fullfill this?
my god i love this trilogy so so much
Dad got the trilogy on ps3 and i loved it, best thing a 6 year old could play
legend was my first lara game i played as a kid, and i used to think alliser and james rutland (or however their names are spelled) were the same person and allister betrayed me 😭😭😭😭 remember going to the croft manor and shooting at him in the library i believe, and not understanding why hes still there if hes my mortal enemy. i cant breatheee, it was only when i replayed the game a bit older did i realise
5:22 vision and that Google 🤣🤣🤣
4:29 Lara travels to Facebook 😂😂😂
im actually on a tomb raider binge.
Lara: Enraged that Amanda caused her mother's death,
Still Lara: WHERE IS MY MOTHER?!
Me: DA FUQ, LARA, U OKAY?!
I love the legend trilogy!
now that I finally finished Underworld I can now watch this but, boy, I really liked some aspects of Underworld but the story is really not one of them. Its like some weird fanfic and barely connects to Legend at all
Laras Shadow reminds me so much of Lara from Angel of Darkness
I wish they’d continue the game starting after Underworld. The survivor series are great, but it kind of strips Lara of everything she ever was in a lot of ways.
This was also a good listen!!
Back in the days I was really fascinated by the Legend story, but I felt Underworld retconned and screwed it all up. It was what changed me from a naive youngster to a cynical adult. For most people of my generation it was The Phantom Menace that did that, for me it was Tomb Raider Underworld...
Never notice how crazy these games are😂😂
It was so frustrating that they never released the underworld DLC's on PC
I really wish they would’ve continued the Legend/Underworld timeline, it did so much right. The reboots after this weren’t nearly as good
Makes me want to pick up the trilogy now
Omg where is my mother I love you
Thank youu💖
90's TRs were the ones that gave the unique feeling of "not being held by the hand while playing" and new techs ruined that. Crazy to say but... TR games should be like when Lara's squares world
Sad they didn't continued after Angel of Darkness but reboot the timeline but this wasn't bad but wish they could've continue the classic timeline still.
AoD is my favourite Tomb Raider
I love your videos ❤
What kind of crazy metaphysics does a universe have when Lara has seen that so many different mythologies are true and she has experienced so many supernatural events?
Still like this trilogy, played the originals (up until 2 or 3)when they came out; but these were still thematically similar - but had adapted to modern control conceits; cant go back to the tank controls of the first ones now.
Naughty Dog obviously riffed on these for Uncharted, and the favour was returned for the survivor trilogy. I do wish they'd tone down the third person action-cover shooter and focus more on the large environmental puzzles tho.
great video.
This trilogy was my childhood. I have a question, what saw Lara in the mirror in Bolivia( as an adult) and Nepal ( as a child) ?
it was herself! i won’t get too much into it for the sake of spoilers but there’s time shenanigans in the last cutscene of TR Legend. Until the reveal though the game really had me thinking she was the chosen one or something lol
Where the angel of darkness would fit in the survival era
Sometime when Lara is 35 years old. The Survivor version of Lara Croft was born on Valentine's Day in 1993, that means Angel of Darkness would have to be set in 2028, contradicting the game's plot.
There's no Von Croy in survival era, impossible to fit AOD in there lmao
anniversary: I just killed somebody!!!
tomb raider trilogy: literal mass murderer
