exway wave smart battery issue (exway sent a replacement battery in response as within warranty.)

  • After less than four months of owning my exway wave electric skateboard it developed this issue with its original smart battery, whereby for some reason instead of simply powering the board the battery status lights flash in an alternating pattern and cannot be used to power the board.
    After over a month of trying to find a solution (because I like fixing stuff) and I have had no success, I believe it's a fault with the discharge system in the smart battery, though I've seen suggestions that this common issue is a simple soldering problem on the voltage meter within the battery unit.
    either way, I have yet to find a fix to this, and am hoping exway may respond with more information.
    thankyou for watching, and I hope to be making more content again once I have a working computer I can edit videos on again.
    UPDATE:
    Exway got back to me, initially their was a little miscommunication I think, but once it had been confirmed that my board was still within warranty they sent a replacement battery out very quickly. Though my previous experience was that they can often take a month or more to arrive, so I felt lucky with how fast this got shipped.
    I still may try and take apart the faulty battery and fix it in the next year or two, but realistically I won't get round to that soon.

    I recently opened my battery and will attempt to correct the solder connections. Hopefully it solves my high temp and cutting on and off issues. I believe my batteries are fine.
    The last owner said he had it since 2020 and stopped using it after a month once the battery issue ruined it for him.

      I came across an explanation of the solder repair but can't find it now. Do you have a link?

      I also thought I'd seen a video about 6 months ago, but couldn't find it, I think I might have seen it on reddit though, not sure.
      I know people have fixed it by fixing the soldering, or many claim to have done anyway, and that seems to be the main cause of the issue from what I can tell.
      I don't have the basic gear to try it myself at the minute, but if I get back up and running and there's still no video I'll definitely give it a try.

    Just to say as I can't create a note on the video from my phone: exway weren't initially able to verify my warranty, but once they had, they quickly got a new battery within ten days or so - have heard others say it was about a month, just to set expectations.
    So if you're in warranty, then it is at least fixable, but I assume you have to pay for a new battery if not. A new battery is the fix to this board issue, and works for me and seemingly everyone else I've seen with the issue.
    I will have a tinker with my spare battery maybe in the next couple years and see if it's a solder issue as I've heard some people suggest (including in the comments here.)

    Can you still get a new battery and make it work or csn you damage the board too?

      If it's this issue with the smart battery specifically then a new battery is the fix in all cases from what I can tell?
