Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸 I had been working on a different video but that one had to be pushed back, so I quickly did this one to publish something so you don't all forget me. Now go check your belts. And then wash your hands.
Did you use the standard hardware to install the shred lights on the dual belt black carve or did you need longer hardware(bolts/screws) please and thank you
Daniel Kwan Hi Daniel! Great video, it was very helpful! Quick question for you. I just bought a backfire zealot board. I want to get 105mm cloud wheels or something similar to it to have a smoother ride on tougher roads. Do you have any affiliate links for some wheels that will work with my board? Thank you!
This is great info, I got my Verreal Pro a couple of months back & I guess like many folks new to the ESK8 sport, I just assumed my belts were fine. Since watching the vid, I loosened them & found the whole board experience has changed. Slightly less whining noise, the board definitely rolls better & is far less jerky on braking as well as acceleration. Compliments on the channel, its currently one of my go-to places for broad info, even though this vid is a few years old, the info is worthy!
I was thinking about this scenario. Everyone harps on about how hard it is to push belt drive if you run out of juice. Would you not be better off spending 5 minn to takie the belts off in case you run out of power with a couple of miles. To go?
Depending on belt length and tire diameter, you might be able to.pop them off the pulleys and then take them off even without removing the wheel On 83mm wheels that should be no issue, on 97 iirc I couldn't remove my BGT belts
I don't know where this comment could help anyone but I purchased an electric skateboard from Amazon called "Fast and Furious'... Well let me tell you it should have been called!! Fast enough to work for one 12 mile trip using economy speed mode when the battery ran out it just completely stopped while I was going 20 mph... Needless to say it threw me off and flipped itself over ! Luckily my Cat like Reflexes had me up and good to go.. The motor stopped working after that
I would be careful with the Loctite. You don’t want to use too much because it can get in places you don’t want, especially the motor. Also be sure not to use the “permanent” variety. You want the blue version that’s labeled “removable” as DK used.
7:37 LMFAO!!! Just watch the footage. 😂 Atleast you tried! Awesome video hopefully soon I could save and buy my first electric longboard! Love you videos!
Thanks 👍 so much for all the help and Tips ! You have saved me from seriously messing up my brand new board.. I just Purchased The New line of "Backfire, Zealot S" Composite With newest computer . I'm waiting for it to be delivered Thursday... I'm so excited and Stoked to ride.. thanks again for your videos
im so glad you're demonstrating on the Onsra belt drive. I'm waiting on my Onsra and this will definitely make it so much easier for me. Thank you OP!!
I have a feeling that the skate that you weren't supposed to talk about is Atlas. Thanks for this video! I never thought I can adjust belt tension until I saw this video.
Hi Daniel, I have a question about AT boards, should the belt tension also be reduced if it'd been as tensed as shown on the video? Many thanks, love your channel
Not sure which part you’re referring to but in general you’d want belts on bigger gear ratios to be a bit tighter compared to smaller gear ratios because fewer teeth are in contact on the drive gear. Boards are also much more powerful now than when this video was made, so I’d go a little tighter than shown. You should still go by trial and error and see how loose you can get without the belt slipping.
@@DanielKwan I appreciate so much how quick and detailed you answer is. I was indeed refering to the fact that gears are bigger when using 150 mm wheels.
I've loosened the belts on my Wowgo AT2 plus with 175 mm tires, and it feels much better, quieter, smoother, less clunky, so I'd say it's worth testing as I think many esk8s, even ATs have belts that are too tight from the factory. In any case, mine is much more pleasant to ride now :) thanks for this video 👍
Great video, thank you, belts sorted on my NLS3! - and sitting at an airport right now with an Exway Wave (hub drive) under my feet - flying to London, let's see how it goes. I have 2 x 99Wh batteries. The breaklight and headlights were included.
Update: Flying with British Airways from Sweden to London, NO skateboards allowed (it's a BA thing staff said), so batteries in carry-on and the skate was checked in! Let's hope I see it on the luggage belt at Heathrow!
When the belt is too loose, holding the motor and turning the wheel will result in the teeth of the belt starting to ride up the teeth of the gear on the side of the gear where the belt is moving toward the gear. In a properly tensioned belt, the belt will bend up and buckle a bit on the side moving toward the gear, but will not start to ride up the teeth of the gear. Find the point where the teeth first stop riding up the gear, then tighten it down.
very nice and informative video, thanks. surprised nobody did this before, like small techniques holding onto a motor etc.. probably obvious for those that own a board, but I'm still waiting for my first flex to arrive.
Thanks for the video DK. Belt boards maintenance is definitely a great topic. How to buy belts locally without spending a bomb is also another good topic of discussion i reckon.
in the UK we have few online bearing type shops who also do pulleys and belts (for 3d printers, industiral stuff, etc) and the 5m belts are like 5 pounds from them (as not niche).
Once again, thank you for another great video and helpful tip about having tight belts. I only recently got Exway X1 Pro Riot and noticed that the belts were tight. Thanks again Daniel.
Its a really narrow range between too tight and too loose with the Exway Wave Riot. I thought my belt was too tight on one side, loosened it a tiny bit - it still felt tighter than the other side. What happened is it started rubbing against the inside of the plastic guard over the small cog, and it shredded itself within 4 or 5 miles. :(
Thanks a ton for this video. Evolve actually instructs you to tighten the crap out of the belts. After watching this and adjusting my belts, uhhhhh performance is soooo much better.
Simple formula for belt tension: measure the Centre to centre from motor spindle to axle spindle. For every inch add 1/64 of belt deflection. 3” c-c = about 1/8” deflection

For me, I tried setting the belt tension in several ways. The slack of the belt like your video, besides the paddle slipping when accelraretor and stop, when the motor spins and the belt bounces up and down, it will damage the motor shaft and bearings more than i drop a littlegiving the belt a distance of 5-8 mm to bounce up and down. it's perfect for me good accel good break do not make motor and esc stresst.
A tip I heard from the boosted board subreddit when I was putting on new belts was to push the motor with just 1 finger and with just enough force for the belt to be in shape.
thanks for the video! That was helpful to me! Could you do another video explaining a bit more about the different pulleys we can have as well as, why we need to change the bearings and proper way of doing that.

Hi Daniel, Love the videos bratha. I know you can ride much, could you do a video on different types of bushing and settings? Nipples vs Knocks. I board almost everyday with my friends and think bushing upgrades is the secret sauce to a better ride. And what about the vestar night fury. Very nice range and good quality..I was told. I have a bamboo gtr but the night fury was pretty sexy as well and more affordable. Check their site for spec. Have à Nice day.
Just my 2 cents - In the window of “too tight : too loose” it’s important to note that the heavier you are, the more right your belts should be. Me, I’m 220lbs of chewed bubble gum, so I need my belts a little more tight than lighter weight people. When I start from a dead stop, too much throttle will cause the belt to skip a little. However, full breaking on level 4 “NLS pro Belt” stopping is not an issue. I hope this helps! Stay strong!!!!….Stay slim!!
Nice Video bro 🛹 U can also use this video for a drinking game. Every time he says "loose" or "tight" 😅 u have to drink. I have a Meepo hub Driven board atm and i am looking forward to a wowgo at2🥳

I don't know if I would apply loctite. I've had it permanently lock screws into place. Idk if there are different types of loctite, but if there are definitely use the weakest possible if you do this.
Its kinda sad that i jave to say this but after reading just a few comments it looks like its needed. DONT EXPECT THINGS TO WORK EXACTLY THE SAME FOR YOUR BOARD! WHY? BECAUSE NOT EVERY SINGLE BELT DRIVE MOTOR/BOARD IS EXACTLY THE SAME. THIS VIDEO DID A GREAT JOB AT SERVING ITS PURPOSE, NOW ITS UP TO YOU TO TAKE WHAT YOU LEARNED AND SEE WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOUR BOARD! Hey man quick question when you orders your e wave did you order it with an extra battery? Because I did but it’s not in the box ? Does it come separately?
Daniel, I am incredibly dissapointed in this video. Years of riding my motorcycle and readjusting chain tension has taught me this trick of putting a screwdriver shaft in between the teeth on the sprocket, turn the belt/chain till it's on the other side of the the original drive gear from the motor, pull everything as tight as reasonably possible and tighten all the screws down to lock everything down in place, turn the wheel back to where the screwdriver shaft is no longer trapped between the belt/chain and the sprocket/gear and you now you have everything with an extra few mm of the screwdriver shaft as looseness. I use this same technique but with the belts on my Bajaboard but instead if a screw driver shaft I use a bit to provide the gap. You may be able to use this same technique but use 1/4" bits instead because they are smaller overall Edit also you should mention how important it is to get ALL the motors with matching tension especially when it's 2 motors and up
Got the ownboard with evolve kit and those pulleys are so large its one of the hardest tension adjustments I've seen, pulley and axle are so close together
Your videos are brilliant Daniel, but on boosted boards you pretty much need A LOT of tension on the belts. When riding my V1+ or Steath, when very aggressively riding downhill (45-50kph), before slowing down at the bottom. Every damn time belts will slip, even with new belts, also the Stealth was slipping even with 20km on the odometer (pulleys were definitely not damaged). Anyways just my experiences with boosted!
I actually only know of two brands that use 3M belts instead of 5M, and Boosted is one of them. So yes on a Boosted Board you'd need to have the belts be tighter. (Smaller teeth.)
Oh great tips I had my board for 2 years never even thought about that cause my braking is super hard and jerks really sudden. I don’t know if you’ve rode the riptide board R1 but yea acceleration is shotty too, thanks for this
old video i know but on the off chance you see this, id love to know what or where i might find that rack you were using to store your boards as im looking for a similar solutions for my boards, not just eskate but also regular and snow
Awesome vid great advice . I wouldn’t say loctite that’s a brand they should be paying you if you gonna say their name that much, a generic term is thread locker until they sponsor you 🤙🏾
after loosening the belt, the belt started to rub against the belt cover... the space was pretty tight to begin with, so even just loosening a bit got them in contact. Anyone else have this problem? I have a tynee mini 2

You may be able to use this same technique but use 1/4" bits instead because they are smaller overall

Same thought here... also, wonder I if Evolve is noticing they are selling more AT kits than boards... lol.
@@DanielKwan great content...love your videos. Which one is better 3M or 5M?
Why does my board rattle when breaking? Are the belts too tight ? I have a meepo voyager
Oh great tips I had my board for 2 years never even thought about that cause my braking is super hard and jerks really sudden. I don’t know if you’ve rode the riptide board R1 but yea acceleration is shotty too, thanks for this
Ur a really good editor and story teller, i watch ur vids that i dont even need cuz i have hub motors, my city roads destroy belts in week 😂
What about backfire zealot s it doesn't have groves to slide screws?
Is it normal that when I turn on the board the motor make a humming noise???
Take a shot every time DK says 'too tight' 😁
And I one more thing do you thinks it’s worth it buying boosted board mini x after the shutdown?
Imagine if a company made an automatic belt tensioning system! That would be awesome....wait...MetroboardX
Someone tell me why this guy is not famous yet?
old video i know but on the off chance you see this, id love to know what or where i might find that rack you were using to store your boards as im looking for a similar solutions for my boards, not just eskate but also regular and snow
Awesome vid great advice . I wouldn’t say loctite that’s a brand they should be paying you if you gonna say their name that much, a generic term is thread locker until they sponsor you 🤙🏾
Check your gears too, i had a small cracked gear in my evolve and it was ripping every belt i put on ,my GTR
So are we talking Goldi Locks here, not too tight, not too loose, but Just right.
after loosening the belt, the belt started to rub against the belt cover... the space was pretty tight to begin with, so even just loosening a bit got them in contact. Anyone else have this problem? I have a tynee mini 2
This is hard to do on the AT carbon GTR the 66T pulley is so massive it is pretty much touching the motor pulley.
Hi do you know ?how to adjust belt on wowgo At2 ??I change to cloud wheels but now back to 175 wheels...and there is no place for that with AT wheels...
