BA is a job title that truly differs depending on your location and the company you work for. I work as a BA in the UK and it’s much more focussed on requirements gathering, process mapping, stakeholder management. You absolutely do not need SQL skills or even data analysis skills in the most part. You need an understanding of data, sure, but the data analyst will do more of the technical work. BA roles here are much more like BRM (business relationship manager) roles. More about stakeholder management, turn business req’s into tech speak for the devs, manage UAT, the glue between IT and the end users essentially. I’ve been a BA for 10 years across 5 different orgs and it’s always been the same. I’ve spoken to other BA’s in Australia and the role is different again. So I appreciate this video may be more suited to the US audience but the tasks and role scope differ greatly between country/org/project 😊
Same thinking and do agree with you. I also studied BA (exactly is IT BA) which will gather requirements from stakeholders, analysis them and design into function, feature to solve the problems and meet stakeholders’ needs. 😊

I've been working as a business analyst for the past two years. Even though my job title is business analyst, I've been gradually moving on to the role of a product manager and I carry out a mixture of tasks related to business strategy and product management at the moment. I have been following your content since last year and they've been really insightful. I always learn something new and honestly find your videos oddly calming. As someone who is changing from a sales based career and currently back in school, this video was incredibly insightful. Product Management is my long term goal and it was great to get a sense of what the career pathing looked like, especially when it comes to data analytics roles versus business analytics roles and how they intersect.
I am a Business Analyst for more than a year now and I must say that this position is challenging and yet fulfilling specially when you get approvals from clients regarding your recommendations. You really need time management and proper prioritization of requests based on urgency of report. I love how this work gives me strong decision making skills and learn to look for deeper reasons or bigger picture behind every problem.
Hi I'm going to uni next year in the US but I can't choose my major. My current options are Business Analyst, Advanced Marketing Analyst and Computer Science, what do you think is the best since I want to work in a business/finance setting rather than software engineering setting

this was so amazing and so helpful to me! I truly admire your grind and hard work. I actually love the BA/Consulting role. My initial plan was to pivot into product this year (which has gone well in terms of hands-on projects and internships), but I think going into BA instead of PO then transitioning into a Product Manager makes the most sense now!!!
