Just realizing how the story of the lonely goatherd mirrors the movie’s plot. The lonely goatherd (a lonely man - Captain Von Trapp) with his goat herd (his children) build a new family with a girl (Maria) who responded to his song (request for a new governess), with the girl’s mother (Reverend Mother) encouraging the girl to follow her heart
Indeed, this is the kind of scene that doesn't necessarily move the story forward. But showing the characters just spending time with each other (putting on a puppet show, in this instance) draws us the audience into their world and allows us to care about them all the more when the story moves forward.
I agree with you. The worse part (for me) was when I heard she can’t sing again due to voice probs/surgery. But it is so good to have her voice live on in this film and Mary Poppins and many other films she’s been in.

Yes, I was just marveling that having been introduced to this film 40 years ago as a preteen, having watched it various times per year since, only today did it occur to me that no way in the world could the kids have owned all those puppets, much less made all the scenery and learned to do the incredibly complicated movements, and so forth. Yes, other commenter, we get that it's a movie, but we're just amused by the thought of not even questioning that within the logic of the movie.
If one goes back to this part of the film, the scene ends with one of the children asking their "Uncle Max" if they can keep the "puppets" to which Uncle Max responded "Of course, I already told Professor _____ (presumably the previous owner/creator) and why else did I send the bill to your Father." With that dialogue it has been established that the whole marionette set was lent (or they may have rented it) to the Von Trapp children and Fraulein Maria via funny Uncle Max. Though it is true that it does look quite impressive to us viewers for all of the children to ably "handle" the puppets and change of backdrop scenery with ease and synchronicity in movement, given the young children's ages, I think it is at this point that the crerators of the movie hope to rely on the audience's imagination - since it was presented that a decent amount of time have supposedly lapsed between the scene prior and the Goatherd scene, then it can be presumed that the Governess and children had enough time to practice from the time they got the marionette set until actual presentation. It also helps that Maria is shown to make gestures to remind the kids on what to do next for the entire presentation. So sorry but NO, the "Sound of Music" never presented the idea that the Von Trapp kids owned and created the marionette set (puppets & scenery) nor had the story make us believe they were highly talented puppeteers.

The yodeling here from sound of musc refreshers my love of the Swiss people What a beautiful and wonderful way to celebrate life and bring joy and laughter as well as magic with the accompanying puppets well done Julie
This cuts off before they exit the stage. But when Julie steps down she is out of breath and says Whew! This was a real reaction and kept in by Robert Wise.😊
It hits different right Now rest in peace Christopher Plummer, he was a a phenomenal actor! I can't imagine how the cast of " The sound of music" must be feeling, they were such a family!

This is a faint memory that i had for most of my childhood. Im so happy that i finally found this again. I can die peacefully
Best film ever.. such beautiful music.. I would watch this every year with my siblings.
The best ever at the rendez-vous with Julie Andrews! Merci beaucoup from Paris France, take care.
I remember watching an interview with the cast years later and Nicholas Hammond who played Friedrich admitted he had a huge crush on Julie Andrews while they were filming the movie. At 2:51 and 2:54 the way he’s looking at her really gives it away 😂
Amazing how many words they found that rhymed with “goatherd”
RIP Christopher Plummer!!! 😭😭😭😭
I was so sad when I heard he died 😔
@@coniloreen same. rest in peace
The sound of music was the first movie I have seen, I was 10 years old, sneaking to the cinema alone after coming from the church.
Hey who’s watching in 2024…
Me💀
Me too
Me 😂
Me
I'm here
Nearly 50 years since I first saw this - and it still makes me feel happier than any other song!
I have been watching The Sound Of Music and The Wizard Of Oz since I was born and they never get old❤
This film is an absolute classic which never gets old. Simply one of the greatest films ever made.
this song and this scene are incredible. the sheer magic in this movie cannot be described with words
The yodeling here from sound of musc refreshers my love of the Swiss people What a beautiful and wonderful way to celebrate life and bring joy and laughter as well as magic with the accompanying puppets well done Julie
I hope they never ever try to remake this movie....leave it be pls!!!. What a classic ❤❤❤
This is one of the songs I’ve sang along to throughout my life, in my attempts to exercise my voice and become a fabulous singer! She’s so amazing
Thank you! This gives me great joy in a society which is unfortunately becoming more and more joyless, fearful and hypochondriacal by the day. I listen to this over and over every day and i love it !
Absolutely fantastic & Timeless scene from a truly fabulous film. Always loved the amazing Julie Andrews & her incredible vocal range
People today don’t realize that at the time this film was made Eleanor Parker (the Baroness) was the most famous to filmgoers. The other performers were mostly known for their stage work. She was cast not only for her talent but her name recognition. She was a very talented performer, several Oscar nominations, played many different roles, but sadly is most remember for her The Sound of Music. But I suppose not the worst thing to be remembered for! She does have the best lines!
Yes she was a very talented actress and a good person too.
After the puppet show:
Baroness Schroeder: "My dear, is there anything you can't do?"
Maria: "Well, I'm not sure I'll make a very good nun."
Baroness: "If you have any problems, I'll be happy to help you."
She held a certain class and elegance- so beautiful!
If you'd like to see a musical in which Eleanor Parker plays the main character, try *Interrupted Melody* (1955).
And really very humble. Once she realized that Maria and the Captain loved each other she gracefully packed her little bags and left.
Nobody beats Julie Andrews. This is fantastic
Who else adores Julie Andrews as much as I do? She is absolutely beautiful ❤️! She came to my wedding ten years ago and it was absolutely amazing! I love and adore her so much! Love you so much Julie! I love this song but my favourite is Something Good and Edelweiss! 💜
Oh wow!!! Why did she go to your wedding? She's my favourite actress!!
@@dreagarcia1997 I was lucky. My husband got into contact with her and some of the other Sound Of Music cast and they all came to my wedding! It was absolutely wonderful ❤️
@@mariasmith9460 Awwww lucky you!! So glad you had the chance to meet such a wonderful woman 💗
Julie was very influential on my vocal musical tone. I am sure many others. I tend to drift her style my way. She is a beautiful artist
Just rewatched it with my 5 year old. We both loved it. This is her favourite song.
Julie Andrews is a legend!
True😆😆
Hi
This is one movie they haven't and should never remake💗
I was so obsessed with this movie and Julie Andrews
favorite things, and the lonelygoatherd easily my fav songs
I've seen the Sound of Music for the first time yesterday and I've heard this song today like 5 times...I love it :)
Watching this is just so heart warming.
Julie Andrews & co, are just so fabulous!
Even to this day, it retains an innocence & deep charm about it & just offers a glimpse as to how to have fun without "modern tech".
Personally i'd take the more simple yesteryear over today.
Disney has always been my favorite.. Sound of Music was Always my favorite.. Chris & Julie
This film is just one relentless piece of brilliance after another.
My sister played Maria in her school production of The Sound of Music and she said this was the most difficult song for her to perform! She did a wonderful job!
Love ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ this. Watch this with my Nanna at Christmas love the show 7
I remember this beautiful film when my mom carried me to see it..Iwas 6 years old...I love all the actors and actresses...
I've been following this for 40 years ... and every time I hear this number it gets better. Stunning piece of theater.
2:22 Her voice is beautiful👏
Thank youvery much. for sharing this moving sound ❤❤🎉😊
I love how near the end, while Maria is singing the last parts, you can see Brigitta smiling trying her hardest not to laugh like they're making her go on on purpose 😂
