In 1590 During the reign of queen Elizabeth the first a Dr John Dee was the Warden of Manchester college, what is known as Chetham's Library and he was a man of science and astrology but was also widely known as a sorcerer and a necromancer. This is the story of what happened to John on a stormy night in Manchester.

Once again, a great thought-provoking video and well presented. Thank you, Stuart.
As to your question, yes, I do think Dr John Dee was a man far ahead of his time, and misunderstood by many of his contemporaries, because they did not understand mathematics, sciences and the pursuit of knowledge the way he did.
Why do I say this? (Unfortunately, this cannot be answered in a mere sentence).
Well, not only was he a scientist, he was an ardent promotor of mathematics, and especially its applications in astronomy, navigation, cartography, cryptography, alchemy and astrology (which no doubt influenced his appointment as political advisor to the Queen, and tutor to many ministers, and advisor for sea voyages of discovery). He had written over 80 scholarly works to share his knowledge. He amassed at his own expense one of England's biggest libraries.
He was a devout Christian, but due to his background in mathematics (coupled with science), he believed that numbers were the basis of all things and the key to knowledge. He lived in a time of unparalleled exploration and discoveries. They were exploring the physical world, and it was time to explore the spiritual world. His attempts to communicate with angels were based on his belief that he would learn in this way, the universal language of creation to achieve unity of mankind. To him there was no distinction between mathematics, his investigation into Hermetic knowledge, angel summoning and divination -- he was merely on a quest to understand the (spiritual) principles underlying our visible, physical world.
Looking at this from the 21st century, most people would probably not even bat an eyelid. However, if the people did not understand your knowledge at the time of Tudor England, one could very easily be demonised, which is what I believed happened to him.

I agree, if he was from later times Victorian to now he would have been fine but the period he lived in no Christian country on the planet would have let him be.

I also thought the inclusion of the 007 bit quite fascinating. 😊

Very interesting information. I heard you mention Ian Fleming adopting 007 for James Bond but also thought about JK Rowling with Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. A man ahead of his time imo & allegedly, the general populace didn’t understand a great deal in the earlier times due to lack of resources. Some couldn’t even read, merely existed with just enough food to get by. Even today as a recent traveller to the UK I noticed the brogue nuances between towns. Back then not many people travelled long distances as we do in the modern era. Thank you for a very interesting historical monologue (I was born in Warrington). Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🦘🐨🇦🇺💐

Thank you very much, yes that is correct it it’s something you find with fantasy books etc they are full of real, people or items etc. yes he was ahead of his time in many ways but it was easy to demonise people too, for instance a lot of women were found guilty of witchcraft by the church because of knowledge of plants or midwifery an idea we find insane today.
Thank you for stopping by and I hoped you enjoyed the story

Thank you Stuart, wow interesting stuff lovely presentation and you asked for any thoughts on well I doubt an angel would of given him a vessel like that, if the angel did not think he would use it wisely, plus also if the devil did appear (loved the hoof mark clip) and on realising it he cast the devil back down, then he did right by the angels trust, doesn't mean to say he still did not experiment and learn by trial and error, after all unfortunately it did not seem to bring him much joy in life only suffering, which the devil feeds on.

    Great start!
    Please consider the following feedback:
    1. The story is well scripted however would be great to have a stronger conclusion.
    2. The voice is clear with a touch of northern accent, however please add more life to it. More passion when telling the story. It comes somewhat monotonous and takes from the excitement of the story.
    On a positive note:
    1. The story is original and interesting.
    2. The script is good, with a dash of passion it will come across great.
    3. the mic and recording is up to standard.
If you keep building a playlist like that, you will easily get a substantial following.
