- Steiner Optics describes their DBAL as an "intelligent dual beam aiming laser" that provides "extreme accuracy in low light and no light" conditions. Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant has DBALs to explain to us how the Dual Beam Aiming Laser system works. Steiner's flagship DBAL-A3 model has an IR (infrared) illuminator, a sort of infrared flashlight whose light beam is visible only when you're wearing night vision (NV) goggles. It's aiming laser has both IR and visible laser emitters. The visible laser lets you use the DBAL-A3 as a standard laser sight without NV gear.
The DBAL-A3's IR illuminator has a range of 175 to 250 meters. You can adjust the width of the beam AND the aiming lasers' point of impact. A "FIRE" button on top activates both the IR illuminator and the laser, while a control knob on the rear lets you switch between various output levels and combinations of IR and laser operation. Press and hold the FIRE button for momentary operation. Double tap it for constant-on operation of the emitters. They'll shut off automatically after 5 minutes.
The DBAL's bult-in quick-release Picatinny mount clamps to the MIL-STD 1913 rail on your rifle's handguard, which gets the laser close to the bore axis. The DBAL-A3's low profile lets you mount it on the top rail without obstructing your view through most optics. Zero the DBAL laser to the same point of impact (POA) as your optic. Caleb explains why the DBAL-A3 comes with TWO remote pressure switches.
What about the DBAL-D2? This model has the same dual visible/IR laser illuminators, but it has a much larger, more powerful illuminator with a range of 1,000 meters. The DBAL-D2 has the built-in QD Picatinny mount, but the fire button is on the back of the housing, and there's only one remote pressure switch. - Спорт
I have a DBAL-A3 and I do not currently have night vision capability. It is a future purchase, definitely, but I could not say no to 25% off the price of IR/laser.
Steiner's civilian Quality Control department should be named Holosun's salesman of the year
THANKS
So I may have missed it, but there’s something he didn’t mention. The A3 illuminator is also an IR laser, but it’s “defocused” to spread the beam like a flashlight. The D2 uses an IR LED for illumination. It should provide better flood at closer distances. But the downside of IR LEDs is that they emit a red glow visible to the naked eye. An IR laser does not. Also, the D2 is about 4oz. heavier, as I recall. A3 is 8oz., D2 is 12.
It’s a common misconception that near-infrared laser illuminators do not have an apparent glow with they are fired. Of course they do. The LED will just have a larger point source of red visible leaking light. The laser illuminator will have a smaller point source of light, which could mean a shorter time to being noticed.
It is worth noting that the D2’s illuminator is 857x more powerful that the fda-limited laser illuminator on the a3.
@@asomeguy3000 I’ll have to look more closely at my illuminator next time I’m out with it. Hadn’t really considered that the size of the emitter made a difference. My IR LED is fairly obvious to the naked eye, but it’s also about 1” in diameter. I understand wavelength plays a part in it, too, but I’ve only tried the one LED. Thanks!
@@asomeguy3000 my DBAL A3 has no forward signature red glare when fired. My PVS 14 illuminator does
Thanks for pointing that out!
Hey!!! The shout out to Larpers! Flannel Daddy would be proud. Thank you for supporting Garand Thumb! Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Good stuff!
idk why I watch this stuff honestly. I have 2 DBALs and ATPIAL but I guess I just love hearing peoples take on the products I use XD
Although, nothing is wrong with that, I cracked up at the "LARPING" options on whatever you'll be doing. It's hilarious. LoL
Great video as I would be getting one myself!!
Let’s face it, most of us are LARPing. At least I hope so. All my guns shoot paper except for my $175 shotgun which I use for coyote control at the farm and my .22-250 which has glass that is worth twice as much as the gun for daylight coyote control, (four and counting so almost $400 a dog for that piece of gear with optics 🤣).
@@john-paulsilke893 This is true, we're all LARPing, but the great thing about this country is that if something changes we're able to be prepared. For anything. God bless and LARP as much as you want to. I loved that comment because it shows that Brownell's knows that we're out there and we're customers that they value.
@@obwls9495 exactly! I have food and water as well as medicine in case of an emergency. It’s 99.999999% not ever being used for a SHTF situation. However there will be an earthquake, hurricane or some other nonesense and it sure will come in handy. (Probably getting shared out with my neighbours if I’m being honest. There’s no way I need 30 LifeStraws.)
Thx u for your videos, I sure enjoy them. What cal and make is your rifle in this video? I purchased a POF .308 AR15 and installed a LPVO 1X10 Vortex scope and just love it.
Can you do a video on the mawl ?
You should do one on the PEQ-15 as well
What are the comparisons between these and a PEQ-15? What are the lumens and distance numbers?
It would have been nice if you can show the laser on so we can see how bright it gets but nice job
The lasers are for use with nv tho
What are the best night vision goggles to use with the DBAL A3?
What is that stock?
I ordered mine from Afghanistan for $45 and a manual for the M4.
Lmao... ISIS got a bulk deal from the US Government with our tax dollars. #FJB
Where do i buy em from?? i need one..
cheap haha
Wait a minute, you mean all the civilian DBALs with the low power “FDA” approved for civilian low power………have a screw I can remove to get high power? Or are you showing us the military/LE only versions? Thanks for any info.
Civ lasers still have low and high power modes, however the high power mode is still civ class and “eye safe”. The screw is more or less redundant on civ lasers.
How do you feel about side charging AR'S🤔 Yes, I do own 1 .
What's the reliability for that a3 ?
Question, should one use this with night vision or IR scope ? The money for the which way to go is costly. I seen the TX hog hunters use IR scope.
The common use for these aiming lasers is whilst wearing a night vision device. If you have a night vision scope you can aim through the scope.
Seems to me most of the night time hunters use thermal scopes, but I'm not a night time hunter, so ...
Only have to donate 1 kidney for the A3, you need to donate both for the D2.
I have no use for this. But I want it!!!
Shame it seems like Steiner is pulling out of the laser market all-together. The 9007 actually seemed alright, and the D2 is okay, but I imagine its only a matter of time before they can those too.
For anyone confused by this, Steiner has essentially discontinued nearly all their civilian laser units. I believe last I looked they still make the OTAL-C, DBAL-D2, and DBAL-A3.
@@HalfHealth hmm. Imagine that. They're going somewhere;)
@@NoNo_IStay Yeah.. probably. I wouldn't be surprised if they're pulling a FLIR.
“The Steiner optic deez ballz”
My larp budget needs an increase
If I was the one promoting these products I will show the customer how they are used in real time so they could have a better sense of the product.
Hold up...where's the AT-4?
I don't see it in the safe.
Sent it to Ukraine as part of the brownells aid package. Or so I heard
That's hilarious 😂 I call them destructions too🤣
FDA needs to let us have FP cat toys
I'll stick with my FP PEQ-15
Steiner DBALs or Balls deep!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What one of those usually cost?
Just say, IR … LAZER SIGHT. That’s it’s, that’s all.
What?! You do a DBAL review and DON'T have Hop from TFBTV do a guest spot? I am disappoint.
It'd be 9 glorious minutes of a frustrated Hop trashing Steiner's QC. As is tradition.
@@frankholub4673 🤣🤣 OMG...it would be truly glorious.
Cringe comment
@@jhh600 and another. Any comment calling something "cringe" is literally that.

wish i had the money to get into night Vision
I think you should have mentioned that we can’t buy these in the normal power settings you are showing us, we can only buy the low power civilian versions.
There is is still a low and high power mode despite being neutered.
I Worked for Laser Devices inc. I used to build DBAL's
Perst 3 all the way
Isn't the Perst 3 no longer available due to sanctions imposed on the countey of origin due to the leader's... you know... the thing with his neighbor?
Just can't justify putting this on my 700$ rifle!
I just wish they didn't cost an eye. If they were around the 800 to 1200 I probably would get one but the price right now is equivalent to an eye. I rather keep my eye.
They don’t. These are budget units for the beginner.
These are entry level budget oriented units.
I will take my Mawl clad and DA over these any day.
A3 could of got for $1250 ish now they want $1700..downfall of America in
Progress
This is the fallout. The aftermath is just now spilling over.
Dang I’m sure this guy is a good dude but get somebody with some charisma to put on video
Brownells should spend less time making videos and more time answering customer service calls I am currently caller 109 in a long line of people waiting for customer service tried the live chat and no one is available. Definitely would not recommend you guys based on today
