You should see my AS 7050. It is brand new in the box. I bought it on eBay and for a minute the AR would work. Then it failed and would no longer work at all. I took it apart and that AR claw looked like someone had squirted some Permatex on it just to make it work long enough to sell it. I took photos and sent them to the seller who gave me my money back. I had tried and tried to find the part and there were none anywhere. I asked the seller what he wanted me to do with the reel and he said keep it. I fixed mine but I did it differently from Rick. Rick’s way is definitely better. - Chris
These Apollo reels are probably the worst reels Daiwa ever made. The anti-reverse claw has a rubberized part of it that when any lubricant touches it the rubber part will immediately start to dissolve. You have to do a sort of bush fix to make the reel usable. Until this video I’ve never seen that part even close to being intact. I didn’t know what it actually looked like. I own an AS 7050 in this series. Rick, as I’ve told you before, your repair for this reel is better than mine. Mine works but yours is a much better way to do it. I don’t particularly like these Apollo reels as it has only bushings. I wish these reels had a bearing at the pinion. Unfortunately these reels can’t be changed to using a bearing. Daiwa only made these reels for a very short time as they quickly got a horrible reputation for failing. They did not make enough replacement parts for the reels and even if they did, without any modification the reels would fail all over again. When I did my repair I used a rubber washer instead of a spacer like you did. Good job on this reel. I have a question for you but I’ll give you a call. - Chris
Hey! I have that same reel Rick. You serviced it for me. 👍
