I am 65 years old so every hour counts, at this stage. After all, how many more years of ball-tingling do I have left? So I value my time.
And yet I watched this video, as I watch all Andrew’s others, and I don’t at all regret spending the time. The metaphors are worth it all by themselves, and the watch info isn’t bad either!
I'm 77 and consider watching Andrew's videos time well spent. I intend to live to 105.

Some the metaphors are very funny. A few of them are more mixed than three blended scoops of harlequin ice cream served on a scratchy double LP spun in an equatorial EDM festival.

Andrew, I used to enjoy watching your Watchfinder videos, but your AMW videos are next level. It is great to see your personality come through unconstrained, and your scriptwriting is second to none! Even if I manage to kick this expensive habit, I'll continue with your videos for the pure entertainment factor! Best of luck with your new found freedom!

after a stint in the USAF, I worked as an aviation electrician on various aircraft. the F-4 was the most miserable plane i ever worked on.....thankfully McDonnell Douglas remedied all their mistakes when they developed the F-15

I got what turned out to be a faulty medical report, thought my number was up and went out and bought a Breitling Bentley in Harrods. Cash. Then got a call saying “Oh , sorry : we used a child’s blood pressure cuff…you’re fine”….anyone wanna buy a “worn once” Bentley ? Nope? Didn’t think so

Great tongue in cheek humor spot on! All of us have these scratch the itch moments with watches that we regret later- it doesn’t look right or feel right, no tingling! Wanting something and then having it can be two different experiences.

Thanks for making me feel better about my mistakes. Not taking ourselves too seriously is wise, making others laugh at our mistakes is wizard-like wisdom, but making videos about it to make a living and having Christopher Ward make you a red Bell Canto is godlike...

My biggest watch regret--wanted a Tag Heuer Monaco, and bought an Orient square homage version of it instead. When it stopped working in two years, I binned it in shame. Every time someone brings up the brand Orient, I take damage.
You didn’t miss anything. I got a Monaco and it never gave me the fizzy ball feeling. I gave it to my son….he wears it for school 😮
I'm stunned that the Orient failed so quickly. They remain in my collection because they seem never to fail.
I come for the humor & watch content & am never disappointed.

It's always interesting to hear about the flip side of the luxury watch industry. Sometimes, even the most hyped watches can fall short of expectations!
you'd love the patek, BTW. The way it feels on the wrist is astonishing. I had the opposite feel of the AP RO. I found them to feel "hollow", and could not buy one even when they were on 20% discount, only 10 years ago.

So much talent. This video made me think that I could listen you about pretty much anything. Our collecting mistakes are factually super boring (mine are mostly compulsive buying of too many Seikos and one Grand Seiko too far - that wouldn’t please any audience !) but your video is hilarious.
That was one of the most entertaining watch videos I have ever seen! One thing that I have learned is to never buy a watch without saying it, whether it’s inexpensive or expensive it always looks different on the wrist than it does in photographs. Also, there is no such thing as the perfect watch. Therefore, you need to have several pieces to do certain things one watch for swimming one watch for every day (they can be the same) and certainly one watch for dressier occasions. You sound forever, tormented! It’s certainly a wormhole as well as it is a journey!
I really enjoyed this video. We've all made watch purchases that we came to regret, but you certainly have some doozies in there, lol.
My regrets similarly occurred early in my collection phase. Buying...
- Watches that proved to be too large.
- Watches that wear too heavy.
- Watches that had excessive complications.
- Watches that had poor (obscured) readability.
- Watches that had poor accuracy.
- Watches with bracelets absent of micro-adjust. Quick adjust is best.
My first Auto was a U-Boat as well. I'm a big guy, though, so it looks normal on my wrist instead of looking like a ladies' watch. I will say they were amazing to work with when I had to get a longer strap.

Fact the lugs on the latest GMT II models 126xxx are actually slightly thinner than previous gen 116xxx
My successes have been a GMT Sprite and the Tissot Squalette. My fail is a Monaco Gulf. I knew it was wrong and I did it anyway. My neutral was gray dial seamaster 300m with blue rubber. 2 years in.
Just to let you know, the consistent and inventive subversion of the You Tube norm of referencing the last section as some monumentally climactic denouement is both noted and appreciated. Also "If it flies but doesn't lay eggs..." is a line I may have to pinch.
One of my disappointments was the JLC Reverso duoface - was one of my grails. I got to try one on and was stunned by how thick it was and then by the face that you have to 1) take it off to reverse it and 2) then wear it the other way around on your wrist to read it.
The funniest one so far! My plumbs don’t tingle, they disappear into my abdomen in a good kind of fear of what I have done. Once bitten is not statistically significant.
Thank you for defecating all over two of the watches I currently own and enjoy. Indeed mileages may vary.

12:28 "I fancied myself as a bit more left field than that." Brother, I was the same way in my early days of collecting. Going for the off versions of popular models didn't pan out so well for me, the novelty wears off so quickly lol. Once I got a "boring" but more timeless watch, I couldn't be happier.

lol. I had a U-Boat too. Loved the design. It was a 45mm. So more wearable… but still. A monster. Likely useful in a street fight. Luckily, I sold it and lost less than 150 dollars overall
I bought an equivalent to the U-Boat, the Graham Chronofighter, and immediately regretted it for similar reasons. I shouldn't be let loose anywhere near a watch boutique without sealing my credit card in a lead lined vault first.

Andrew - I too looked back and dug up some painful memories, but mine consist of frosted tips and shell necklaces.
I really appreciate the criticism of the nautilus. When I finally got to try one on, my primary reaction was shock at how flimsy it felt. No doubt that its beautiful, but it didn't have great wrist feel. Same experience with the Moser Streamliner and its beautiful bracelet.
lol; brilliant writing! Almost had me in tears. My first "luxury" watch was purchased in 1997 a solid 18K gold Movado 1881 with a 34mm case. It was Swiss and Gold! All watches were smaller then, and I hadn't found the on-line watch community yet. I still have it, it's a little small, but it's beautiful - I got a nice discount and its ETA automatic movement is cheap to service. I value it to this day. It was after all the start of the watch collecting journey. Yes- I know a Rolex and Omega would have been a better choice...But in time I got both of those anyway.
As entertaining as ever 😁 Watch buying mistakes are definitely part of the “journey”. One watch that wasn’t a mistake for me is the Hoffman chrono with the royal blue dial that I purchased after seeing it in one of your recent vids. It truly is an excellent watch for the money and a real compliment magnet. Thanks for the tip! 🙌🏻

I bought a watch from amzwatch lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.

We have similar taste it would seem. My first watch was a U-Boat Classico in 45mm, then I went to the Bell and Ross BR01-97, then Panerai PAM312 and then the Speedmaster Moonwatch Hesalite. I sold them all for a 2011 Orange bezel 45mm Planet Ocean which is the right size and quality for me.
Good video. Best advice: never buy boring watches like most aviator ones and also...the Tissot PRX range (!)
I almost made the mistake you made with the Panerai, but the California dial. The homage I bought had a different dial color/texture and was 42mm. I realized an actual Panerai would be ridiculously large and I actually just like the smaller cheap homage better. Saved me thousands, and I still wear the homage.
My moonswatch has generated more compliments than my aqua terra ever has and its , admittedly cheap strap , is far more comfortable than the AT’s slightly less cheap bracelet. Now non watch people get them ,literally ,and metaphorically.

an absolute blast of a review ! i don't spend that kinda money on watches, and i love all of them, no watch i have disappoints me, except the Orient Star black dial, the bracelet, changed to a white rubber strap, boom! love !
I'm watching this on my break at work inthe van. I have a feeling I'll need to clean coffee off the inside of the windscreen. Bell & Ross are my guilty pleasure, everything about them goes against what I like but ilove them.
As watch enthusiast we all take a healthy dose of copium with every new purchase. But at makes all the more special when find the RIGHT one. For me thats been my SLA071, every time I've looked at it over the past few months I just smile. May we all avoid the disappointments and meet the pleasant surprises in our horology journey.

The Bell&Ross was the same for me, but I solved it by buying the smaller version and love it! The big size is just too big!

Panerai is a very polarizing watch. It’s loved or hated. I myself do enjoy them

Andrew's writing is so great, always has me laughing out loud.
When I was a kid f4s would fly over my house. There was an air force base a mile or two away. A kid in my third grade class had a dad who flew one and wouldn't shut up about it. At the time I was glad to see them get replaced by f15s because I was a kid and thought planes with two tails were cooler.
