Looks like a good solution, my only concern is that you are now screwing into end grain rather than edge grain. If load is relatively low it probably will never strip again. A suggestion: often using a nail of the correct diameter in place of a drill bit makes a stronger connection when a screw is used. The nail pushes the wood fibers aside rather than cutting and removing them while burnishing the hole.

I've been shooting for years but everything's been in the family and have only recently been buying retail and looking into another purchase and just wanted to cover my bases. Yes, The ATF requires you to be an 07 FFL (Licensed for Manufacturing and Sales) FFL to work on other people's firearms
