I'm pretty much a noob at this game but an old veteran of RTS, mostly played C&C and Warcraft/Starcraft, but I tinkered with the stress test yesterday just slow building, learning the ropes (I've not got much AoE experience). I tried this strat, pretty much was going to copy it exactly, but my area didn't have any deer nearby so I had to get them on berries early instead, I teched to age 3 in 8 minutes, built about 10 horses and sent them to my intermediate AI opponent who just had nothing but spearmen lol. I didn't really know how to follow it up since I'd invested everything into stables.
Seems like you've got the basics of economy down, 8 minutes castle is quite fast without much AoE experience. So you can copy, that's good. I suppose the next steps would be learning the units and the counters, AoE heavily favours a counter system where units deal "bonus damage" vs units they counter. So spearmen are good vs cavalry (I believe they deal triple bonus damage or something) while Cavalry are good vs archers. Most armored melee, man-at-arms and such do well vs spearmen as well, but often lose to archers, although in AoE4 I believe they made quite the distinction between 'regular' archers and crossbowmen, which are better vs armored targets. While these are just the base counters, since there's quite a few different units in the game, learning those is what will allow you to adapt your strategy. Scout out your opponent see what they're building and try and create an army composition that can beat it.
This was my favorite civ/strat in the beta! But I'd get the clocktower first and push with 2-3 nest of bees (chinese unique siege) which murders early game units. Also means you need a lot more wood
I think it's going to be really interesting to see all the little things between aoe2 and aoe3 pros going up against one another in aoe4. I don't think a single ao2 pro would ever drop a stable adjacent to their town center, but maybe that'll be the proper move in aoe4

I never understood why everyone goes for an early game win now. The more popular early game win methods are just boring in my opinion, smacking these noobs before they even have the chance to defend themselves.

how can you set up a 1v1 in the stress test? I booted the game but all single player is not available and the multiplayer against AI wants a 2v2 at minimum :/
Under multiplayer option, look at the top and you will see the custom option. Create a game under that tab and you can add AI there, there is no set requirement for how many opponents are in the game.
scary how good people are...and me struggling to win against intermediate ai...sadge

Plays Chinese Civ: "The Engrish"
No tax collectors? Isn't that supposed to be the thing that makes Chinese special?
Against an intermediate AI. Whats the point? If you want to showcase the effectiveness of your build order with a slow start civ, it would have been much better to demonstrate it against a hard ai at least. This video is useless
