I am glad that Toyota Tundra doesn't have AWD system like some other trucks. Those AWD systems have wet clutch pack central differential which can go hot under heavy use and will stop working till cool down. I dont have the auto t-case, but agree the light on the dial is easy to miss. I once drove down a cleared highway and only realized when parking it was still in 4x4. Now i keep the habit of always leaving it in 2wd when i park.
We just got a 2024 Tundra as a company vehicle and I actually love the shifter for the fact that it is super easy to shift gears without looking. The screen seems comically huge, however when you have maps pulled up, you can see a huge part of the area which is super helpful.
Can someone confirm if the Falken Wildpeaks on this TRD off road package is also 3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake rated? Video says M+S (all season) only, twice (at 4min 25 secs). I called Falken's tech line with the exact size and model, they said it's 3PMS rated. This is an important detail for a "snow review" video.
It did pretty good for all seasons. I disagree with trucks being better in the snow. An SUV like a 4Runner is a better in the snow since it has better weight distribution and is less likely to high center in a drift. In addition the Tundra lacks an auto 4x4 option, so it’s not the best option for inexperienced drivers in variable conditions. The Tundra price went up mainly from added content, not inflation. The 22 SR has more on it standard than the 21 SR5. Trucks nowadays are marketed to the affluent. You are not missing much with the lack of heated steering wheel. I’ve heard it’s lukewarm on the Tundra. A lot of Toyota models only went up $100 from 21 to 22. As always a great review!
Roman I like the old style shifter too. Great video! Driving around on a snowy day in beautiful Colorado with your son enjoying the awesome Tundra. Beautiful country out west ! Nice Video Tom!
If you're in an area like guys are where the roads are 100% snow covered not having 4wd auto isn't a huge deal. You just put it in 4hi and go. For most areas where you're dealing with patchy conditions the 4wd auto is definitely a plus. You put it in 4wd auto and go; whereas if you don't have 4wd auto your constantly switching it back and forth between 2hi and 4hi.
I understand that for $57,000 you would expect more but look at the new GMC Sierra Denali. I believe it’s $87,000 starting price. I’ll skip the automatic 4 wheel drive and the heated steering wheel and keep the extra $30,000. Can’t wait to see the hybrid specs!
Can not compare the two as far as of equipment . Mid level truck and top level ! I agree a lot of money no matter how you look at it . Top spec Ford same money and top spec Tundra will be close .
4wd auto is no good, I want 4hi or 4low, 4 auto makes transfer case more complicated and weak. I agree all transmissions and transfercase should be LEVERS including parking brake and knobs for hvac. Duratracs are better than ko2 especially in ❄
Agreed, but the wife thinks I should trade in for a truck with 4 auto lol. Really that's why they're offered I think ... once you start having multiple drivers to a vehicle, it often needs to be as dumbed down as possible
I’ll take 4 auto all day everyday. It serves its purposed very well driving in the city in certain conditions. Sometimes you don’t want 4 high. All depends. Had 4 auto in my trucks for years and never had an issue. With all makes. But at times I use both. 4auto or 4 high. Again all depends on the conditions and I live in winter wonder land also. 🇨🇦
Thanks for promoting snow tires. Here in Europe it's a no-brainer. In winter you need snow tires unless it never snows where you live. And they are excellent on cold wet roads too.
GR8 Video, Have you ever tried this Tundra in any actual Deep snow or just the minimal snow? Also you used the AC when apparently in Auto mode it is Auto and no need to turn on the AC seperatly, or at least on my 23 Tundra Limited.
The sight line thru the windshield is great if you like looking at the headliner. I hate when the designers do this. My F150 has great sight lines thru the windshield.
The reason Tundra doesn't have 4x4 Auto is because its 4x4 system is part time. Part time means it can't be run on dry surfaces because it will put stress on the system. The reason its better is because 4x4 part time distributes power to all wheels. Full time 4x4 generally distributes to one front wheel and one rear wheel. Its also been shown to prematurely wear out transfer case components when vehicles that have auto 4x4 are left in that mode all the time. Even when I had a Silverado with that option, i never used it. Auto 4x4 is junk. Do not use it, do not want it as even an option on my truck. Thank you Toyota for not including it.
Both of my Tundras showed low readings at idle. Wish the gauges were true analog with numbers. However never had a engine related problem after 400k miles combined, in fact no issues with anything. Very solidly built trucks, and I've had the competition.
Hi Tommy, I noticed your seating position in the drivers seat, your knees were bent and appeared to be above your hips.... I'm 6'6" and I like to have my knees even with the hips, a position I can nearly achieve in my RAM 1500. In the Tundra: Could the seat go higher? Further back? Or is this the position that you prefer?
I’m 6-4” and when I put seat all the way back it seems my knee is even, so 6-6” should work?? I know one thing this truck has way more head room than my 20 ram mega cab.
Can anyone give opinions on the Revo3 Bridgestone tires? I just put a set on my f150 for a trip up the east coast this winter. I am a Florida native and have limited experience in the snow but I plan on taking it easy at first.
They are supposedly pretty good in mild winter conditions, but are not Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rated. All that really means is that they do not count as snow capable or "traction tires" if a state has laws pertaining to use in snowy conditions. I think you'd be fine if you drive within your limits (and use 4wd if equipped when appropriate).
Came to the comments to see if that was highlighted. Offering assistance to an open hood, especially on a less travelled road would be the correct etiquette.
New look of the Tundra is way better than previous ones. Locking diff is a great addition finally. I'm surprised there are no tow hooks. I'm not crazy about that giant screen but I'm sure many people like it. I think my 16' Tacoma will most likely be replaced by the next gen Tacoma. Great video as always.
I live the new tundra, but I was super disappointed with no full time 4wd or multimode 4wd, I live where there is a ton of snow most of the year and drove a chevy 1500 with a4wd and have a grand cherokee with its 4wd system and its great while driving the back road and normal snowy conditions. The lack of tow hooks is also annoying, I tried to help someone stuck today who had a ram promaster, he was missing the tow hook insert and I could not get him because he was buried. Those are the two biggest things for me personally.
what would be the biggest BF KO2 tires you could safely put on your tundra TRD off road or winter/mud? I love my KO2, just got them, so haven't really tested them in snow but hear they are good....thanks
Do you have to have the subscription service for their radio and such to be able to use the remote functions on the key fob like they are doing on other Toyota products?

Hey guys hope yiur all day well. I'm looking to but my first truck and wanted a 2022. Here's my question, which truck would you recommend a Tundra or Tacoma? Pros and cons?
Just messing around on Fords build and price tool, an equivalently priced F150 is an XLT with cloth seats, heated wheel isn’t even an option until you get to the Lariat high package, no standard adaptive cruise control and lane centering ($750 option), and also has no 4A option.
It's an issue here bcuz many of the main roads will be clear, but the side roads will be untouched. I don't want to be bothered with having to engage 4wd while driving. Also, I know first hand the importance of front recovery hooks being used to recover vehicles stranded in snow banks. The omission of these two items will cost Toyota THOUSANDS os sales in Northern climates.
@@putmeincoach7663 if you're too bothered to simply engage 4WD via a button, you should just stay home during bad weather. Have some common sense while driving in bad weather. I suggest you take a winter driving class.

I had a 14' sierra slt and i left my truck in auto most of the time unless i was on a highway road trip or something
Great video! The Hansel and Gretel comment was too funny!
Tommy is too serious...Dad is willing go out for more adventures.
Roman I like the old style shifter too. Great video! Driving around on a snowy day in beautiful Colorado with your son enjoying the awesome Tundra. Beautiful country out west ! Nice Video Tom!
Why are the headlights flashing? And the dash screen is flashing too. Why?
I would love to see that scenery in person 😍😍
If you're in an area like guys are where the roads are 100% snow covered not having 4wd auto isn't a huge deal. You just put it in 4hi and go. For most areas where you're dealing with patchy conditions the 4wd auto is definitely a plus. You put it in 4wd auto and go; whereas if you don't have 4wd auto your constantly switching it back and forth between 2hi and 4hi.
Def a plus ,, ! Dont use it a lot in my truck , but very handy as you said !!
It's a big deal where I live bcuz often the main roads will be clear but the side roads are often untouched.
Tommy ...Roman......You didn't stop and ask that broken down guy with the hood up if he needed any help @ 10:45 in video. Trail Etiquette?
Went back after to check on him
Scenery? Boss. 👍🏻
The red looks amazing in the snow.
So the wildpeak that comes on the truck is not the same as the wildpeak at3w? The ones I bought are 3 peak rated.
Hey Tommy and Roman why didn't you stop or at least acknowledge the guy stranded on the road with his hood up ?
I thumbed this up as soon as i saw the scenery. Beautiful!
I disagree bcuz for about the same money, the competitors offer a heated steering wheel.
Top spec/equipped Tundra is 80k plus...FYI
@@putmeincoach7663 I agree they do come with heated steering wheel at that price point . My TrailBoss did .
My 2020 Denali 1500 stickered for $65k. Pretty sure they haven't gone up that much.
I just found out that new Tundra don't have front safe hook. Is that right?
So in my Ram 1500, should i select 4 Auto, 4 Hi or 4 low when its snowing outside and roads are fairly covered?
4wd auto is no good, I want 4hi or 4low, 4 auto makes transfer case more complicated and weak. I agree all transmissions and transfercase should be LEVERS including parking brake and knobs for hvac. Duratracs are better than ko2 especially in ❄
Yh and those 4auto systems used clutches that tend to over heat and you'd have to wait for it to cool down,
Agreed, but the wife thinks I should trade in for a truck with 4 auto lol. Really that's why they're offered I think ... once you start having multiple drivers to a vehicle, it often needs to be as dumbed down as possible
@@jasonquaile2492 tell that btch to learn 🤣
@@jasonquaile2492 lol yeah
I’ll take 4 auto all day everyday. It serves its purposed very well driving in the city in certain conditions. Sometimes you don’t want 4 high. All depends. Had 4 auto in my trucks for years and never had an issue. With all makes. But at times I use both. 4auto or 4 high. Again all depends on the conditions and I live in winter wonder land also. 🇨🇦
love the new tundra but in your video why is the oil pressure reading so low.
Thanks for promoting snow tires. Here in Europe it's a no-brainer. In winter you need snow tires unless it never snows where you live. And they are excellent on cold wet roads too.
I’m in Thornton CO hope you all at TFL are staying safe from the recent fires
GR8 Video, Have you ever tried this Tundra in any actual Deep snow or just the minimal snow? Also you used the AC when apparently in Auto mode it is Auto and no need to turn on the AC seperatly, or at least on my 23 Tundra Limited.
The sight line thru the windshield is great if you like looking at the headliner. I hate when the designers do this. My F150 has great sight lines thru the windshield.
“This is where we’re going with the witch, that lures little kids in… THIS IS GREAT!” 🤣🤣
“Hansel and Gretel” 🤣
Roman's heavy breathing is becoming the channel's prominent feature just as Tony Soprano's of the show:)). Great ride and great dad-son chemistry 👌
Why is the oil pressure gauge reading so low on that yoda?
Why is the oil pressure so low in the tundra while idling?
How many psi did you see?
Good question!
Both of my Tundras showed low readings at idle. Wish the gauges were true analog with numbers. However never had a engine related problem after 400k miles combined, in fact no issues with anything. Very solidly built trucks, and I've had the competition.
Will you do the 3.5” lift from Toyota?
Hi Tommy, I noticed your seating position in the drivers seat, your knees were bent and appeared to be above your hips.... I'm 6'6" and I like to have my knees even with the hips, a position I can nearly achieve in my RAM 1500. In the Tundra: Could the seat go higher? Further back? Or is this the position that you prefer?
I think he has his seat a little bit head. Because of filming him so you get the angle right of the camera looking a head not back (good eye)
I’m 6-4” and when I put seat all the way back it seems my knee is even, so 6-6” should work?? I know one thing this truck has way more head room than my 20 ram mega cab.
I am 6’6” and gave up on everything else and went BMW. I fit perfectly in german cars.
👍Jose on Bmw’s… I’ve owned 3, because of the excellent fit!
Why, why, why no front tow hooks? 😐
New TUNDRA 😎👍🏻
That big screen on the dash is totally ridiculous! We will look back in 10 years and laugh about that! It's really in the way
Los Japoneses construyen los mejores autos del planeta tierra!!
Man, I hope that guy with his hood open in that 9 degree weather got his car running!
Came to the comments to see if that was highlighted. Offering assistance to an open hood, especially on a less travelled road would be the correct etiquette.
Does the tundra come with always on 4wd Or a awd option?
Sweet puppy! He just wants a friend to play fetch all day 😂
Can you do a side by side off road comp between the new and old tundra? The new one looks flimsy on the front and back bumper compared to the prior.
Dogs, father son quipping back and forth. Great video!
On my Sierra i turned off that 4 auto it seemed to kick on at times when it wasn’t needed. Just annoying.
Only use that feature when needed , 2 high in normal conditions !
I'm always thinking what Roman is saying: "C'mon keep going! this is fun!"
Test drove one yesterday. I'll stick to my V8 tundra instead
Still waiting for my dealer to get some. I didn’t like how the old one drove, so I wanna see how the new one handles.
You have AT- 3W but you can get the AT3W which doesn't have AT on the tire and is 3peak mountain. I just bought them.
Does it even matter since I can’t buy one? Not a single TRD for sale anywhere near me due to lack of inventory.
Well done gentlemen, thanks for the ride!
what would be the biggest BF KO2 tires you could safely put on your tundra TRD off road or winter/mud? I love my KO2, just got them, so haven't really tested them in snow but hear they are good....thanks
I have them on my 3rd gen 4runner. They do pretty well in Flagstaff. I haven't tried to blaze a trail virgin several feet deep powder yet though.
thanks for showing my rav4 in the back ground.iam from calgary alberta mine is exactly like that one.
Not having a auto 4x4 is a blessing . them transfer case’s have more parts in them to go bad keep is simple
I love that yall are dog lovers! Always willing to be patient and willing to share the spotlight with curious folks and pets. 🤣😅
Do you have to have the subscription service for their radio and such to be able to use the remote functions on the key fob like they are doing on other Toyota products?
I love the way they included a decently big screen but still held all the neccisarily Buttons unlike almost everyone else. And they’re in a good layout unlike the rams
Really enjoyed your video! Thanks for showing us the New Tundra, Its bad ass. I am happy with my 2018 model and will keep it in the family and just get another tundra next year or two. Curios of the hybrid model, since it produces more power. Also, that dog scene was great, glad you kept it in the video, shows your true personality and viewers liked that.
Hey guys hope yiur all day well. I'm looking to but my first truck and wanted a 2022. Here's my question, which truck would you recommend a Tundra or Tacoma? Pros and cons?
Are you guys allowed yo ride all terrain tire in the snow? Here in Québec you need winter tire by law
I think depends by state here, but where I am anything 3PMSF is considered a "traction tire" and okay to use in those times.
Just messing around on Fords build and price tool, an equivalently priced F150 is an XLT with cloth seats, heated wheel isn’t even an option until you get to the Lariat high package, no standard adaptive cruise control and lane centering ($750 option), and also has no 4A option.
And yet people whine about not being able to buy a "base vehicle" and you're whining because options cost more...
Does the heating system work good?
Beautiful video. The Nav Screen seems 1 or 2 inches too high. Is it obtrusive? Have not sat in the Tundra yet!
Fun video. A little surprised you guys had trouble with the windows fogging up. Duh! Push the fresh air button, looks like you had on recirculate.
4auto doesn't make such a big difference. most people know that in bad weather shift it to 4wd, right?
It's an issue here bcuz many of the main roads will be clear, but the side roads will be untouched. I don't want to be bothered with having to engage 4wd while driving. Also, I know first hand the importance of front recovery hooks being used to recover vehicles stranded in snow banks. The omission of these two items will cost Toyota THOUSANDS os sales in Northern climates.
@@putmeincoach7663 if you're too bothered to simply engage 4WD via a button, you should just stay home during bad weather.
Have some common sense while driving in bad weather. I suggest you take a winter driving class.
