Sir, this is so insightful and valuable. Next year I will be reaching my target asset allocation and need to start rebalancing

Best way is to combine Systematic Rebalancing and 10% trigger rebalancing.
You are rebalancing once every year.
Also, if you get 10% increase within 1 year, It will trigger a rebalancing.

@@rajeshbhatia9342 It depends on your decision.
I will strictly rebalance at the end of the year.
Someone can avoid it by thinking "it is ok to have 52% equity 48% debt instead of 50-50" while entering next year.
It all comes down to the person decision.

@@SubramanyanP Very rarely would there be an actual need to to combine the two! If you do one, the other will most often be not necessary. So let us not get carried away in labelling things as "best"

I asked my fee only advisor about rebalancing, he said right now my ppf and pf would take care of debt component(which is around 40%). He said I can start moving equity to debt/debt MF when my goal is around 8 to 10 years away(right now my goals are minimum 18 years away)

The reason many people ask for solid example might be because their complete debt component might be in pf and ppf(like me) and there is no easy way to pull out from unless ppf is atleast 7 years old. So I am guessing my only choice is to wait for equity allocation to go high when there is a bull run and put the excess in some debt mutual fund

If they cannot pull out how will an example help?

    Good evening Sir,
For new investors who would mostly be having 100% fixed income portfolio, how would you suggest initial rebalancing to equity ? Would a gradual rebalancing be better compared to a one shot (50%-50%) rebalance ?

Pattu sir you mentioned to do Systematic rebalancing when the equity portion has increased for that year.
So the same follows when the equity portion goes down, isn't it?

Sir instead of rebalancing can we just put future investments for next few months in the asset class that has lesser allocation than desired and just that way adjust the asset allocation?

what exactly you mean by systematic re balancing? Re balance the portfolio with a fixed % on a yearly basis ?
