METAL! is my go to EZX. Over the years I've formed my own user preset I dubbed "House of Frankenstein". I use Metal! as the foundation...but use kit pieces from all over Toontrack. All of Toontrack Metal EZX's, old and new, are cool as shit, imo. With some elbow grease, anyone can build their own custom user preset....that can turn out pretty unique....break a leg!

I wish Will Putney would do a tone pack for Helix products. Dialing in the amps in Helix with his own IR's that would be included with the purchase. I'd buy it in a heart beat!

Nice vid Fluff!! When are you doing a new mixing midi drums tutorial? Nowadays your drums sound a lot better than the last mixing midi drums you did on reaper.. hope yo could do it soon.
I was thinking about getting this anyway, but you sealed the deal! I’d love to know what you’re using on your OUT 1-2, because I feel like logic is a tad bit muddier on its main out than other DAWs I’ve used. Could be me though. Great vid, homie!

Deciding if I should purchase EZ Drummer. I'm not sure if it's worth it or if I should just remain programming my drums in FL Studio. Hmmm...Damn.

The kits sound good and I love Ez and superior for writing but the preset mixes are terrible. It is also difficult to make those symbols an d crashes not sound like pots and pans lol. I am not sure if tis the mics they use or the digital conversion but I have to eq them with separate plugins to get them less fatiguing on the ears. Thanks for sharing this though. The SDX packs are so much better but pricy and they take up so much hard drive space.

What further processing did you do to the drums? And did you route each track of the drums out into your daw?
you can see he did route them out at 3:04, & you can see the plugins on those channels a bit before that
You actually can eq and tweak drum sounds more, but you have to do it in the daw.

Would have been awesome to see how well this goes with STL Tonality's Putney plugin. Shame that Toontrack would not have liked it in this video as they have their own EZMix to sell for guitar tones.

I dont get it. You turned off all post processing and went thru the presets as they load and they sound huge. Mine sound... Meh and weak.. Or did you have each preset bussed and prcoessed outside of the original load a kit and test?

Will uses a combination of ITB processing and outboard gear, he doesn't do a lot of heavy processing ITB which helps maintain the organic sound he's known for

Is Will Putney against low-end? Why is everything just thin thwacky sounds? There's absolutely no power to these drums..
Have you by chance heard the presets play-through on the company website? There're much thicker kicks and snares on there : )

@@BobbyWinterGuitar Are you serious?! I just put on Covet Not...this is the same thin garbage I'm talking about. The drums are completely lost in the mix and there is non-stop clicking and thwacking...there's no power to these drums at all. There are multiple drum fill were the Toms sound like thin plastic. There's no resonance, there's no depth.
Just because there's Bass guitar in the mix doesn't mean the drums sound big. You've completely missed the point.
FFS...this "breakdown" is hilarious. The kick drum sounds like a rack tom.

Man, the cymbals sound nice and loud in this expansion compared to the other toontrack "metal" expansion packs
Not thaaaat impressed, but I guess a SDX version might do that. It does not sound bad, just not as supreme as some other toontrack SDX stuff imo. Though I like putneys sound.

Love the video and love this expansion but man it sounds too compressed... and that leads to sound quite unnatural and lifeless to me. Appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work by the way.
Will Putney’s production style uses HEAVILY compressed drums (and everything else) and I imagine this was the case when he recorded these kits/samples. Might sound lifeless but in the right mix his drum sounds are often punchy as hell.

@@deviltelletubbie well, with respect, heavy compressed drums like these are not punchy at all... I guess we have a different misconception of what is punchy over here... CLA or Andy Sneap mixes are punchy, but not those. It's a matter of taste though. Again, with respect.
@@PereRevert for sure! His production really isn’t for everyone but Will knows how to make them punchy.
just multi route the drums and tweak them individually thats the intension not to just use the stock sound

Will Putney in the making of say : "i love raw sound unprocessed" something like that... I hear a lot of EQ and compression in all presets... And this fuckin pumpin comp on the overhead is so... bad. I don't know why he use a crazy set up of mic...

The cymbals sounds like pot covers and broken sheets. Typical EZD! I´m so happy with GGD :-)
The overheads sounds awfull...and would ruin at least for me every Mix🤔
I don't know what he did there bot they don't sound like that out of the box at all. There is still tons of processing on them even when he turns the plugins off (which obviously he didn't). Check out toontrack samples. the kits are super dry and need quite a bit of TLC.

@Sergio He managed to make Pig Destoyer sound thin, anemic and weak...Putney seems to be allergic to low-end powerful frequencies.
The drums on pig destroyers headcage are bricked to fuck. Seems like everything he does on drums sound very woody and plasticy. Very strange. The only positive I guess is that you could say it's unique but not in a good way imo
