I was going to dismiss this because of his age but then he started with attributing his knowledge to being an apprentice under someone who has a lot of experience. Very humble and gracious.
With 1/4” plate steel @ 6” wide for the yoke that holds your blank; I don’t see the need to weld diagonal braces in the corner of the yoke. Some guys really bear down on those Surforms, so if makes you feel comfortable to each his own. I bought a set from Fiberglass Hawaii back before you were born. They were not real pretty, but worked very well. The guy that built them used two “receiver hitches” for the vertical post to mount into the stand. That was pretty creative. But the yokes were only four inches wide. So I took them to a welder and had him change them out to six inch. Surprised Jim trained you in the use of a Surform. Thought all the Florida guys were anti Surform. Where’s your “Dragon Skin”?? Lowel
Im on my third board right now and its hard but fun! Its a 9'2 so if you can share some tips for longboards while shaping a fish or any type board that would be awesome. YT videos about shaping longboards are like non existing or old footage from shaping legends. They drop some knowledge nuggets while being vague about it.
@@zack_flores I'm shaping from my garage hehe, located in europe, the Netherlands of all places. Been to California this year and love how surfing is way more integrated into the culture with all the history that happened there.
I'm looking into getting started. I have a lot of this stuff from doing custom body work. Any chance you have a list of tools I can download? Request, 10.5 twin or thrust
