- These were two free Craftsman Lawnmowers I picked up one day. Both were broken when I got them, so I fix them up and start them for you. Below are the steps I went through.
Fixing Lawnmower After 8 Years of Sitting: • Video
Step 1: Test Compression
Step 2: Fix Pull Cord
Step 3: Check Underside
Step 4: Oil
Step 5: Air Filter
Step 6: Ether and Starter Fluid
Step 7: Idle Speed

Excellent. You don't talk over our heads (as in, "We Are Amateurs!") and you hit all the trouble spots. Tomorrow morning I'm loading up the 150 and going out to scour the neighborhood for castaway mowers.
Good to see someone repairing lawnmowers, most people would see those lawn mowers as junk!
Good job son!!!!! You showed me how to idel the mower faster thanks 🙏🏻
The stiff blade on the green one is normal, as the engine as the engine stop lever wasn't pulled back. There is a brake on the flywheel thats applied when the stop lever springs up. The red machine also has this system but it appears its missing both the return spring and the cable.
my dude got pretty jacked in 6 years working on trucks
The red lawn mower look like beast
Well done. Only simple and necessary fixes.
I'm really impressed by your knowledge. Great job!
thanks
That was brilliant video!!!! Thank you bro...
3:16 those rear wheels were always scary to me.. 😂
I love it, make shift electric start.
Great video, great teacher
thanks
THANKS FOR THE VIDO I REALLY LEARNED ALOT.
you should only prime the mower 3 times and it should start first or second pull if the carb is good
Great video! Really helpful!!!!
Make sure you take out spark plug boot when turning over in side. Also turn on side carb side up.
Also most lawnmowers take SAE30 oil. Some take 10w30 Honda’s and there clones.
you are 100% correct, i definitely did not do everything by the book in this video. The oil was out of laziness, the other things were out of neglect. In more recent videos i have done things the way they actually should be done.
You turned both mowers over wrong.

around here in the south, people try to sell non-running mowers for $35. you couldn't get a cut in half mower blade for free.
the reason why the green was hard to pull over was because of the engine brake ingaged if you would have pull the bail bake and then tried to pull it over it would have been just as easy as the red
Thanks what would you sell them for now that they run?
Love your videos.
Thanks
First timers usually throw the mower away if it doesnt crank.out of gas or dirty carb. Very common
Even more common now with the ethanol in the gas these days if let sit it basically turns into varnish ruining the carb.
I just replaced one exactly like the green craftsman. It still starts with 1 pull, but it was rusty to the point where when I hit it with a wire brush it looked like Swiss cheese. Seriously it is falling apart. Unfortunate since the engine is still great.
Yes, please tighten the cap for checking oil it'll be a bit off if you don't
Also before working on a lawn mower or small motor unplug spark plug
I love your videos man!
thanks!
Great video but spinning over the motor by grabbing the starter cup isn’t a good idea considering that the plug is plugged in ant the kill switch is disabled but still great job on the mowers love your channel
Also the blade was harder to spin on the bottom because that mower had a blade break unlike the red one it was engaged and pressing against the flywheel
Great great JST GREAT VIDEO
Spinning the engine with a corded drill is risky because they usually have a brake the engages when you release the trigger. Just be sure to pull the drill off the nut before releasing the trigger or use a corded drill.
I have been starting my lawnmower with a drill for years now
Great video dude!
You just earned a sub!!
I know this is an old video where where do you find FREE lawnmowers and cars like you do? I would love to make some extra money. Especially not having very much of it and needing it hahaha
My transfer station
Sorry but what is a transfer station?
@@panthiawhelan3565 Essentially a junkyard
Check leakdown to check rings, valves, and head gasket. Replace the carburetor. Change the oil. Tune the engine. Check the blade. Tighten the head bolts. Remove the flywheel and replace the top seal and lower seal. Replace the valve seal. Replace the blade. Replace and lap the valves. That blade is upside down.
Thank you GOOD KIDD
Thanks
Where do you get your mowers for free? I can’t find any for free in my area.
My local transfer station
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 They let you take stuff?
Nice where I am now that is a big no no!
Even though the second thing is reuse as in Reduce Reuse Recycle but that is not allowed it has to be sold for scrap some stuff is worth more in a complete state then in scrap but not to the transfer station!
👍
How do you fix the part where you have to hold it down to start ?
Keep the red motor for another mower and junk the deck. 1 good stick and it looks like it will come threw it.
10:03 Is this one for sale? If so, how much?
Sold
Do you sell the mowers after you fix them?
Yep
Awesome! You really have a lot of good knowledge on this subject and every time I pass a free mower on the side of the road I always think of how fast you can fix them!
I believe to check the oil on a Briggs engine you tighten the dip stick and on a honda engine you don't tighten the dipstick
Interesting I never knew that
Good video
I'd swap keep the motor from the red craftsman but it looks pretty much a parts mower missing a lot of parts and the deck is in horrible shape not very saleable
yeah that's pretty much what i did
Those white things that shoot out on the pull cord mechanism, they are called paws... Or dogs..... On briggs you tighten the cap... On hondas you unscrew it and pull it out, then wipe it off, and just seat it do not tighten it then check the level.
thanks
You ever find a parts mower with a good deck body
Yeah I did... it's now got a green body
qqjmcb 182 any new videos COMING up
Wow a lawnmower with gras on the underside? Must be the only one in the World 😂😂😂
Lol
nice
They turned me loose from the nervous hospital. 'Said I was well. I got hired on by a Mr. Bill Cox fixing lawnmowers and whatnot. That grass out there in the yard has grown up quite a bit. I reckon I might cut it for you.
Mhh hmm French fry potatoes
@@devindantin6140 I Reckon I'll have some of the big un's ah hmm
I think the most funny part is at the dinner not haha funny haha gay
@@devindantin6140 thats a good one too
The blade turns easier on the red one because the safety is disabled on the second one it isn’t disabled
Im in your your UA-cam
WATCH MUSTIE1 on you tube........he is an excellent mechanic and teacher!! NEVER STOP LEARNING! Never knew about “rusty connectors”😊❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
i do
You know that using starter fluid can ruin a carburetor it ruined them really bad
not if it metal
Can Can I have that green lawnmower plz
sorry dude these all cost money they are not free. And I think I sold that one
Ctwillz27 they are actually lol he fixed them
that red mower is not worth fixing
You set red running too fast. You work on junk like I do though, though red would've donated that engine, that green one wasn't so bad but the red and the 8 years sitting were a bit tight if I'm honest. Also comments that the blades are upside down are incorrect.
Hello
Do u not check gas
i do
Compression gage
Phone yn
I know what's wrong with it. It ain't got no gas in it
What should you do if you replaced filter, pull the chord and it starts to catch but the lawnmower sound is real slow like it’s choking and makes a backfire sound and then stalls out?
Sounds like your flywheel key is sheared.
