I got the exact same model mower on CL for $50! It didn't have the deck but it did have working steering and it did run. I use it just to ride around on, cool little mower.

So right now I have a great condition huffy caprice 7hp pull start, a wolf garten cart good condition, a john deere 68 x2 one is apart in big scrapyard of ours. And finally my bolens 1050 powered by a Citroen 2cv engine
Check the cylinder leakdown to check rings, valves, and head gasket. Change the oil and filter. Tune the engine. Replace the blade. Check the deck for rust. Check valve adjustment. If low, it could be the valve seat come loose. Replace the head.
A good video, John Deere makes good machinery. ha ha I agree those rubber boots with holes in them are funny looking. But Iam not a clothes critic. ha ha You have very good lawn mower now. Good job. Time for a cold bottle of beer !

She believes if she waits 7 to 9 days between mowings it will cause her riding lawn mower to break down. I don't know much about small engine repair but 7 to 9 days between mowings won't cause her riding lawn mower to break down they were designed to mow grass that is 7 to 9 days of growth. My dad has bought one of these when it was new and would mow with it when I was like 8 years old. I thought I was a badass.
the carb needs a good clean still but other than that good video man. i went to school for small engine repair and love watching vids like these.
I have one of these too, picked it up for free at the recycling center. its been sitting a long time. im fixing it up for my wife to use.

these came standard with an 8hp briggs on all models. If you have one with a Kawi it was put on there or it's very rare!

You shouldn’t start things with full throttle. That’s probably why you flooded it. I always go full choke half throttle.
You're right about the starting thing. But the reason it flooded was because the needle and seat were crap
