Thank you. This is a great video, aside from one small detail. I still dont know where the crankshaft sensor is. Info seems to be scarce on that tidbit.
Thanks for the tip on doing this without the tire and also thank you for giving a clear explanation of symptoms this resolves. This is the second time ive replaced this sensor and the tire tip saved me from removing and installing the tire. The only thing i would add is to trun your wheel hard right if youre using a screw gun to access the phillips screws.
I'm so glad I saw your video before bringing my 2002 Nissan Xterra SC supercharged to the shops because I'm having the same problem as you do with your car. I already replaced the distributor, the spark plug, and wiring but I'm still having a problem like having a rough idling and dying also it did happen once stalling while running. I have also suspected maybe this is my main issue, but I want to know if this fixes your problem after replacing your CPS? please let me know thank you in advance.
Same, I was about to yell at the parts guy at Nissan because when I said, “would you like the VIN to make sure?” I could see the eyeroll over the phone lol
I recently had this issue. occasional stalling, sometimes long crank times. noticed a hiccup or slight stall once in a blue moon. but lately had become more frequent. Never left me stranded, but I replaced the cam sensor on bank 2 (driver's side). scanned it a couple weeks ago and there was only one code (p1148) which took me to the #1 Bank 1 o2 sensor, there I noticed where the o2 sensor wire was laying on the heat shield that covers the a/c drain pipe. I had a slit in it and a dark spot on the shield where it had apparently been shorting. I now have the wire supported so that it doesn't lay on the shield. I had a new cam sensor already so I thought I would go ahead and start changing out the 3 cam /crank senors, so i put the one i had in. I went and scanned it and it had a p0345 code, (driver side cam senor), which was the one I replaced, so that must have been the problem, so far it hasn't done it since.
I actually got that sensor out and replaced it without removing the fender liner. Not an easy job, but the worst part was getting the stupid ratchet to click back so I could screw the bolt back in. There was only room to put one hand in there and it was rather frustrating.
Do we need to use a scanner to “relearn” the crankshaft position sensor? In other words, I’ve seen other videos that say that after the sensor has been replaced, you need to use a special computer to reprogram certain parameters into the new sensor.
I did not need to, and I've not heard anything of the sort related to the Xterra specifically. If you have a link to that info that would be great to read through though!
I picked one up from a motorcycle supply company years ago (Bolt, I believe) and it has many of the ones for bikes as well as Asian vehicles. You can find good assortment kits on Amazon as well. Thanks for watching!
Couple comments: (1) which motor and transmission combination are you working on? (I have a 2003 four-cylinder, five speed manual transmission). It would be helpful if you state which motor and transmission upfront. (2) Where are you working on the vehicle (i. e. Are you on the passenger side, or the driver side)?. Generally, much more context would be helpful.
This is a second gen truck, so different motor and transmission from your first gen. All work done from the passenger side...I thought I'd mentioned it in the video, but maybe not. Thanks for watching!
Not Nissan....Hitachi who is Japanese made the revision/upgrade to the sensor. Nissan is a damn French company now who uses French and Chinese electric parts like Valeo. But Hitachi is a solid Japanese company that cares about quality.
Stalling, misfires and inconsistent running conditions, etc. They break down over time, could fail due to water intrusion, and other things as well. Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus did you ever get the problem fixed? I'm throwing P0335 codes after 2 sensor changes and real jumpy coming from a full stop. Any help on this? 2010 Frontier.
@@markj240 Never fully, still happens sometimes. From what I understand, it's a known issue that Nissan never addressed, and for me likely made worse by my modifications.
Thank you. You made this easy and saved me a ton of headache. Hardest part was putting the wheel well cover back on 😂

ya took the words out of my mouith. lame would have been nice to get a shot going in.

Thanks for showing that the part looks different. I thought I bought the wrong part at first.
Thanks for watching!

Very nice descriptive video. I'm about to take the plunge myself. Thank you
Thanks for watching - super easy job!
where is it located on a 2002 nissan frontier 3.3, passenger or driver side

Yep, definitely do-able, but to save the frustration I like to remove the liners/covers these days. Thanks for watching!
The new and old sensors seem to have the clip orientation reversed. Do you need to twist the connector 180deg?
I more than likely did, though memory doesn't serve me on this one and I can't say for certain. Thanks for watching!

I do not think the Xterra has a relearn procedure for camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.
Do you have or recommend a clip kit for broke lost or worn-out press clips, fender clips liner clips grill clips etc?

Did you have to use the o-Ring of the old sensor my new one did not come with a o-Ring ?
something is better than nothing
I believe I reused the old O-ring. Thanks for watching!
What about shifting hard too along with dying at redlights and sometimes not shifting into overdrive.
Could be the crankshaft position sensor, but could also be other things. A scan tool with live data feeds may help diagnose that. Thanks for watching!
Im having that same problem

Hi, is this sensor the same as "input speed sensor" thanks
That I cannot confirm. I'd consult Nissan documentation. Thanks for watching!
Driver side or passenger

Can iave this video
Why would it go bad and how would I know when is going bad

Nope, still stumbles, it's a relatively common issue I've learned. Thanks for watching!

Which side fender liner ???????
I believe this was passenger side if I recall correctly. Thanks for watching!
Crankshaft position sensor is located on the passenger side.
