I’ve got a 2016 manual CTX. I’ve put on a Corbin saddle. Kept the stock exhaust. This is bike #13 and it’s the most comfortable, capable, and exciting bike I’ve ridden since my VTR 996 back in the early 2000’s.
I have a 15' CTX700 DCT ABS, and I love it. I've never experienced a bike like it. I also love the DCT on this thing because it adds to the relaxed nature of riding this bike.
Good review, and thanks! I picked up a 2018 CTX DCT about 9 months ago and would add a couple of comments. It's understandable why you wouldn't care for an automatic, but it's not true that you lose control of the gears. The two modes, Drive (optimized for fuel economy) and Sport (optimized for acceleration) are surprisingly intuitive, and it just takes a touch of a button to force an upshift or downshift at any time, which is a lot easier than dealing with a clutch and shifter. Further, you can just put it in manual mode and all the shifts are up to you...again with a finger tip instead of manual clutch and shifter. I find that I Ieave it in automatic (Sport mode) when I'm just tooling around, or on the freeway, and put it in full manual mode when I'm riding the "fun" stuff. It's the best of both worlds, plus the ABS comes with the DCT. As for the fuel tank, it seems like a good idea to get off ANY bike after 175 miles, just to rest and maybe get a drink to avoid dehydration. If anything, it's a good reminder to take a break before highway hypnosis and inattention set it, so I don't see it as a major detriment.
I regularly get 75 MPG for 175 miles with .9 gals in reserve so and easy 200 mile range. Nice review I agree with your comments. I have 14 CTX with 15 k miles and very happy at age 72 and retired this bike feels comfortable and safe
Hey great review. I have had two of these bikes. The first was a 2014 CTX700N that I purchased new. Loved that bike. Sold it to get my daughter a car. Then in 2020 I purchased a 2015 CTX700 with 465 miles on it. I got the DCT version of both. I just enjoy the relaxed riding position. The bike is comfortable. It is not a sport bike but it does have enough power to be fun. It does handle very well in the twisties and does really well with slow speed maneuvering. I wished it had a 4.2 gallon tank like my Versys.
You are absolutely right the whole time I kept thinking this thing handles wonderfully and it’s got some zip but I wish it had the fuel range of my V Strom. Thanks for watching more videos are on the way!
Follow up on my first comment. Ive ridden 16,000 on my CTX (dct abs full fairing version) and wonderful. I have a quick release tour pack, floorboards and a Corbin seat. Did a 2,000 mi interstate trip this summer with no issues. Short falls are: Needs a bigger gas tank. No cruise control. I sold my other rides as this is all I need or want in a motorcycle.
Just bought a 2014 CTX 700 ,It is so light and easy to control . I have the six speed. Lots of fun . Its a sporty bike that you don't have to be over the gas tank.
I got myself 2015 CTX700N with 900 miles at the beginning of the year. Right now I’m getting close to 6k miles. At first I did have a lot of problem with vibrations above 65mph. Taking off Puig windshield helped a bit. Then I got flat back tire and had to put new tire on… don’t know if stock tire was the problem or wheel balance but after putting new tire back side got WAY smoother, but front started to vibrate like crazy. Few weeks ego I also took off front wheel and balance that. Now I can go up to 75mph on a perfectly smooth ride. I’m using my bike mostly to commuting and hardly ever go for more than 1-1.5h at the time. On average I get 66mpg and hit reserve after ~160 miles.
Great review. Interesting, detailed enough without bike speak, honest, kinda humorous. Good call on the pipe, too, which sounds great. Thanks for posting.
These are fantastic bikes, and it's a shame they didn't sell better. I did a bunch of mods to mine (most essential to me personally was a good seat, mine is a Seth Laam creation, crafted to my size, weight, reach and specs.) I'm a big fan of Kuryakin floorboards, I've also added some accessories (kickstand shoe, Givi top case on an SW moth adapter, 1300 adjustable front brake lever, different windshield, etc.) and mine has stock factory bags and heated grips. Biggest gripes are the fuel range (not that it doesn't get great gas mileage) and the stock rear suspension if you're on the larger side.
I never tried a Corbin seat I hear they’re awesome though. I had a mustang seat on my VTX which was pretty good but the width on the stock ctx seat for me just fits. Thanks for watching!
getting my first bike next week out of all the bikes i been looking at this one stood out to me found a white one hopefully it will still be for sell next week
As I see it, it’s a touring bike with some naked bike amenities. The shorter wheelbase, the well balanced frame, the fairly upright nature. It’s not a sport-bike but by my understanding no cruiser handles like this does. Plus 70+mpg with about 50 horsepower is pretty much unrivaled.
I bought a 2014 CTX 700 with 7000 miles on it last April. It’s got 11,400 miles on it now in august. No complaints, anywhere from 60 to 70 mpg… according to how much ass I’m hauling and how much hauling ass im doing. I would have liked a bigger gas tank also, I figure 200 miles and I better be pulling into a gas station. 100 mph is top end, it will haul 2 at about the same speed!
I think heavier riders find the seat too soft on a long ride. I weigh 180 and it is by far the most comfortable seat I have had. It’s my tenth motorcycle.
Corbin seat, and the YSS Shock (i used model MZ456-305TRL-34 which is for the nc750x, but no adapters needed and used on the shortest setting). Much much better. Have yet to re-spring the fork. Interesting remark regarding the handling. You say it corners better than a V-Strom?
My other two bikes are a VStrom 650 and a Thunderbird 1600, and it corners better than both of them. The VStrom is a little top heavy, but still a great bike too. The Thunderbird is a rocket in a straight line but you do fight the 200mm rear tire in the corners. Thank you for watching!
Small world coincidence! Tomorrow I’m heading to O’Fallon to test ride a 2016 CTX700. And I’ll probably take the same ride you did, eventually 0:16 down the River Road to Grafton. I know your video is two years old, but I hope you see this.

I’ve had 12 motorcycles, and I’ve loved them all. But if I had to pick one out of those three, I would choose the VTX 1800. I may be crazy, but at 63 years old, 5’6” and 155 lbs., and always looking for comfort along with some performance, I went from CTX700 to a 2017 Triumph Bobber, and love them both. More the Triumph Bobber/ Cruiser because I am a better rider and it has mid controls, sporty handling with flat bars, low seat, and decent rear mono shock. It’s not at all as practical as CTX700, but makes up for it in looks and nostalgic 1950’s style. The 77hp and 78 foot lbs of torque at 4k rpm’s also adds to my daily joy rides in San Diego, California! If you are a smaller person and looking for a bobber/ cruiser, I recommend you check out/ rent the Triumph Bobber, or the more tame and practical Speedmaster may be the ticket for you. Good luck to you, and remember, “Short people got lot’s of reason!”

I love the appearance and overall design, but at 5’3” the pegs are too far forward for me.
Yeah I could see that, they are pretty far forward. Would’ve been cool if they had adjustable pegs like the Vulcan S. Thanks for watching !!
I added kuryakan? floor boards to my CTX700, and they can adjust back very far. Just a thought.
Where did you purchase the clip on wind shield?
I found that on Amazon it actually works well.
Aside from all bike you have get a good helmet or video cam ,,, it’s way to noisy will
Let's call it a luxury sport cruiser fast enough to it h slow enough to chill for the lazy boy days
Ha io cambio manuale?

That has to be the ugliest motorcycle I have ever seen.
