People with Nova should try the double flange tips its the total opposite of foam tips, foam tips smoothens the peaks making it more "timbrally correct" though a bit "dull", double flange tips moves the resonance peak further in the air region making it more "sparkly/energetic" compared to foam and silicone tips it also reduces the lower treble which most people has issues with (as it makes some vocals even shoutier). Truthear literally recommends using it in their advertisement graphs and people seems to ignore it. What I like with the Nova is I get an option of "correctness (foam tips)" or "sparkle/coloration (white double flange tips)" by just changing the stock tips, its like switching to another IEM.
THIS is the type of stuff that latelly lacks in the hobby - peolpe just wnat ot trade this for that and doesn´t even try everything in the IEMs. And just to think that little more than a year ago filter swap and dampening was blowing minds...
What double flange tips do you recommend? I'm new to this hobby and i dont think that any tips from any manufacturer have the right width to fit on these iems.
Thanks for this write up, just got my novas and will try this out, sound with foams tips is solid currently but still desiring more mainly the mid bass
I have the Nova’s and I love them! I prefer the tuning of these IEMs as I don’t like a ton of mid bass because it tends to bleed into the midrange giving it a bloated, thick presence. The Nova just sounds smooth yet detailed and clean, as stated. I also have the Thieaudio Legacy 4 which also measured very, very close to the Nova. The L4 has been described as lean-sounding in the midrange - which it is - but the Nova gives you much more midrange than that. I think the issue of it being too clean is perhaps a product of the recording more than the tuning. If you have some bright recordings, you’ll definitely hear it - but overall, it really smooths out the treble without losing detail. The Nova are my definition of fun. Improvements? Well, OK, maybe the upper bass/lower midrange CAN be extended a hair but it just needs to be careful not to bleed into the meat of the midrange. That’s a complete deal-breaker for me. Otherwise, these IEMs are a complete recommendation!
@@Viewer13128 I always use silicone tips. They last longer and they don’t muffle higher frequencies. Foams are fussy for me to get right for some reason.
These paired with a Qudilex 5K is the closest sounding bass to an L-Acoustics subwoofer I’ve ever heard from headphones (any/all types). Boosting the lowest sub-bass even more (yes, I’m one of those people), on top of the already sub-bass skewed Nova, gives that smooth bass drum kick you hear at concerts. All sub-bass slam, with very well controlled, just right, mid-bass (because boosting sub-bass with the Qudilex, inevitably boosts some mid bass). These are one of the few headphones I listen to regularly with no eq, even though these are the first I’ve ever eq’d. I just like a lot of sub-bass, but also need some technical performance on the rest of the range. (I think L-Acoustics boosts sub-bass by 15dB. +9dB sub-bass on the Nova sounds decent, any more and it is droning loud bass that mutes the energy of the mix.) I even upgraded to a balanced cable. I’m glad I did, I’m surprised my set still works after blasting sub-bass at full power on balanced (with greatly reduced full range to protect hearing). The most clean violent eardrum vibrators I’ve had, plus an actually decent overall sound quality.
I love the eq on the Qudilex 5K,. On my new Aful P5"s just add some sub bass and my god I'm a happy boy. Added sub bass and some mis boost to my S13 pro's to match the P5's but will probably drop the mid's so there will be a choice to make other wise why keep them both. The Nova's are great looking and If I hadn't got the P5's for $155 I might have bought them.
Nova is a bit better using foam tips, if not using those tips, chopin is slightly better. Both are great anyways. Chopin is more comfortable, Nova is cheaper

Lacks mid bass for music or maybe just needs a better balance between the mid and sub bass. Gaming wise is had great sound resolution and handles layers well but I could not really pinpoint enemies all that well.
Hobby Talks' channel talked about Impedance Adapters and in the video shows that different iems have different effects like on the Zero Red it increases the bass, but when used on the simgot em6L it tames the highs.
Hey Timmy, have you tried the celest wyvern? I bought them recently to compare with the wan’er, and found that it has a much better fit, similar natural tone but better clarity in general!
I was waiting for a comparison with your Chopin! I gotta say, I had my eyes set on the Nova but then your Chopin came out, and I did order it but the seller (on AliExpress) didn't send it, so now I'll have to wait a few more months.
Timmy Sorry got distracted by the must keep female voices angelic… Great if that is the nature of a given female’s voice. Perfect. Norah Jones sounds anemic without her earthy harmonics present. Dianne Reeves is a phenomenal female vocalist with a tremendous vocal range. If her deeper registers aren’t supported well, that’s not good at all. Oleta Adams an outstanding female vocalist has a beautiful tone from mild earthy on up aways. Listening to her I want to hear the depth of her voice throughout. Some women have some wonderful chest voice that is alluring and appealing and it would be missed if tuned out unnecessarily. Do these vocalists strike you as sounding “husky”?
Felt the same way about the Novas, nothing really stood out to me. And after comparing them with the IE200 I found myself much preferring the Sennheisers.
I would never describe female vocals as "angelic" bec I reserve this for the young male voice (ie choirboy, etc). Female vocals are sweet yet sharp to me. While, male vocals have to be impactful and bodied for me to be happy. I don't mind if one sounds less natural or emphasized than the other but I prioritize male vocals for monitoring use while casual listening can be either. Question: My favorite budget set is the Castor Silver from KZ which is tuned 90-95% like the Nova. Can it really sound the same? I don't own the Nova so I wanna know.
At first I felt the same but after trying double flange eartips I found them to fit perfect. Using the ones that come with the Nova(lol) but I believe spinfit 240s would work.
Technical performance. Basically to hear the music or whatever you're listening to as closely to the live version. Btw i hv the variations, it might not hv a satisfying mid bass but the sub bass is really good and fun tht i dont think i need tht much of a mid bass to really enjoy my music. I guess i hv the same tuning taste as timmy which focuses more on the female vocals especially when the singer hit a high note the voice echoes and melting your ears and its addictive to me. Instrument come across very clean without anything bleeding into each other just a well seperated instrument come along together making the detail more pronounced.
