Not only did your video have excellent information on economic consulting, it was a great comparison for those thinking of strategy consulting and other fields. Very helpful!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Tiara. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it. A quick few questions: 1. Do finance majors work at economic consulting firms? 2. Would you say that networking and applying to open positions early are the best way to improve your chances of getting an economic consulting role?
Hi Jacob thank for the comment! 1. Yes. 2. Networking is hugely important !! In my personal experience, I’ve almost never gotten an interview without networking and making some contact with the company before applying
@@TiaraTanka thanks for the reply. I’m a rising senior this year, and I’ve been bingeing your videos tonight. They’re helping me to understand the Chicago (and overall) job market for recent grads & some of the different paths for math/Econ/finance grads that I haven’t considered before. Also, I find it admirable that you choose not to drink. I agree with everything you said in that video, especially with alcohol being used as a blanket to cover up rough times. Also, you are spot-on about societal expectations around drinking socially. I’ve seen a lot of alcoholism & I’m choosing to never drink. Good luck with your new Data Science role, it sounds pretty cool. Thanks again for making these awesome videos, they have definitely helped me!
Every econ consulting firm structures their interview process a bit differently. Most will ask you about your resume and some behavioral questions. Some also do econ consulting case interviews and/or technical questions about economics, statistics, or coding
@@TiaraTanka how are econ consulting case questions different than strategy ones? are they kind of like the ones here? www.vault.com/blogs/interviewing/19-economic-consulting-interview-questions also, were you expected to already know all of the data analysis languages (r/stata/sql/sas/python) or just have experience in one?
Very helpful video! Although, can you elaborate on the pre-requisites and/or skill sets required before applying? Especially, since this job requires working with legal documents, do I need to have a law background?
Thanks! No you don’t need a legal background. Requirements vary from firm to firm, but usually they look for people with an economics background and some basic experience with programs like excel, stata, sas, R, or python
Hi Tiara, very nice video! I was reading the links that you posted and for me it seems that these consulting companies have a really wide range of services right. For instance, i saw that the same firm offers law suit support and data models services too, the same kind of professional covers these two areas or the economists start to specialize in just one specific area? bye bye
Thank you! At the core, a lot of problems we solve are pretty similar. However, the problems can happen in a wide range of industries. Sometimes individuals specialize in a certain area after working for awhile, but this is not always the case. As someone new to this industry, I am trying to learn about many different areas before specializing in anything
Great video! How much of your time is spent coding? Are there opportunity to do work in R and Python? Would you say there an exit opportunities into data science?
Thanks! The amount of time you spend coding depends on the firm. Some firms use python and R. Stata and sas are also used pretty often. Yup lots of people go into data science after. It’s not the easiest transition in the world, but people do it

Could you talk about how to prepare for the interviews at the firm you got an offer from?

Appreciate the content and information. Will be great if the background (wind noise) could be minimised :)
