It's crazy to think that I discovered you when I was a junior in college and thought about applying for consulting jobs, so I often watched your videos for insight... now I'm 7 months into my job as a consultant and started my own channel :') thanks for the inspiration and quality content, kchoi! 💕
The name recognition of MBB/Big 4 opens a lot more doors and less barriers of entry to roles you're interested in - that's it. Also, the amount of resources, training, and networking opportunities provided at big companies can't be matched by smaller boutique firms
I am a hiring manager at a management consulting firm and hired consultants in the last 8 years. What you have described is right and it helps a lot of students to understand the differences between big firms and boutique firms. 👍🏼
Hi! Kristina, how are you doing? It's great to see you back here again. Thanks for showing up, sharing the experiences and differences on what's like working for Consulting Firms VS Large Firms out there. It sounds like to me, it is tough and as competitive to get in those Big 4 Management Consulting Groups. Yeah, I remember, Boston Consulting Groups (BCG), because they do have teams operating, traveling and office networks across the world. I see you doing very well and happy in your current position, guess who knows, you will be applying in these big companies or may be starting your own consulting firm someday. Stay Well & Connected!
I'm really glad you made this video! I'm so excited to join the boutique consulting company I accepted a job offer for come September after I graduate :)
Love the insight Kristina! We just shared a video comparing life at Big 4 vs Big 3 (MBB). We would love to share some insight on the Big 4 life especially being from Toronto, Canada - let us know ✨
Not a consultant but an auditor in a small firm and planning to go to one of the big 4. Totally agree most of your point except the last one. Obviously not applicable to any auditors 😂 Really hoping for the points from big4 views. In case I need to change my mind. 😂
Hey KCHOI. Great video about the industry. There are other firms that are large, but also do lots of highly specialized things across different industries like Booz Allen Hamilton. These can be great if you are wanting to shift your past career knowledge into a consulting role. Also, boutique firms can be good for firm to firm networking and experience. My firm (not Booz) has collaborated with Deloitte and PWC for tech projects because we are small and specialized enough that we don't compete directly with them for business. The talent and experience those firms have are pretty unbelievable. Your friends there must be very smart.
Thank you so much for posting this video: it was very informative and educational. Your video provided good food for thought and these days I have a lot of time to think about .... many things. Hope you are doing well. Please take care, keep safe and healthy. Thanks, once more and greetings from Italy.
@@bykchoi thank you so very much,. Looking forward to watch more posts on consulting; it would be great to listen more on the approach of of work from the the Top 3 and Big 4 from your point of view and experience. Would you consider one day to switch from a boutique firm to a bigger one, if you'll have the opportunity?
@@bykchoi Thank you for sharing your journey with the world. I personally have benefited from you content having made a career change from asset managent to management consulting. Not too big a change but your videos helped in ensuring that I was ready for it.
Do you have any insight/opinion on erp consulting? I received an offer for an industry job and an erp analyst but I’m afraid I might not like the role bc it’s not focused on strategy
Can not agree more, We should see everything in an open mind. I have a question, if someone want to jump from a boutique firm to a big firm, Will the rank demote unconditionally?(역시, 모든 일은 오픈 마인드로 봐야겠네요. 제가 질문 하나 있는데 만약 작은 펌에서 큰펌으로 점프하려면 직급은 무조건 demote되는건가요?)
hmm... that depends on the titles/structure that the firms use. i don't see why you would get "demoted," but your title or "level" might be different. like if there are 4 levels at a boutique firm but 7 at a large firm (just making this up right now), you might be at a "lower" level overall when you move. or a higher level! who knows. :)
Hii, I did British system A levels (grade 12) and got results ABB, A in politics, B in Maths and B in economics. I am currently undergrad doing BSc Accounting and Finance at CASS Business School and have finished the year with a First class honours (US GPA equivalent 4.0/4.0) and predicted to finish my degree with this grade. Realistic thoughts on my chances of getting into MBB? Thanks!
Strategy is in overall. They don’t sell much anymore since the clients wants implementations. So MBB are investing in their It sectors like crazy, but they won’t be able to challenge Accenture unless they so mass. In that case, they won’t be MBB anymore.
no, but people often get an MBA in order to move up, get paid more, or make a switch into another field (could be switching into consulting... but still, MBA is not necessary to get into consulting).

Absolutely concur with those points, as an Associate in a boutique consulting firm myself. 👍🏻
🙌

Yes. But People don't need to go to a big consulting firm to get access to network and other opportunities.
I'm currently studying to become a full-time consultant and your videos are a tremendous help to me. Thank you so much!
Yay!
I absolutely love how the title words corresponded with the audio! Amazing editing Kristina!

Enjoy your videos. Thank you for the meaningful content.
Interesting comparison. Working for a large company has it's drawbacks. There is no individuality and more focus on process.
I'm not a consultant, but I might as well be after your THOROUGH videos!!!!
I really love your video! I also want to watch the sharing from your friends!
working on it!!

hey i have a question!
do you need a certificate or something in order to practice consulting?
5th comment. Looks like the ranking is going down as coronavirus cases go up 🥴
Lolol
Nice topic
Big firms are overrated in general.
Strategy is in overall.
They don’t sell much anymore since the clients wants implementations.

Hi, is an MBA necessary in order to proceed in the career of a strategy consultant?
no, but people often get an MBA in order to move up, get paid more, or make a switch into another field (could be switching into consulting... but still, MBA is not necessary to get into consulting).
When will you make your own company?? Hire me please :)
hired!
Almost as good a video as Kevin Jon's yt Channel haha, he's an ex strategy consultant
