im a computer science major, and i can tell you. you can learn most of that on your own lol. when i read the coding books sometimes im like, i can literally teach myself this in a better way for my brain to digest it.
I am a pure math major at Southern Oregon University which is really just a small state school in Oregon. I am not graduated yet, but I only have a few classes left. All I have left is my capstone, one computer science class (which is required for pure math majors at my school), and a few more general education requirements. The math curriculum at SOU involves a good mix of applied and theoretical math classes. You will have to take several applied math classes such as calculus, differential equations, and statistics, so you will have background in those fields. You will also have to take several theoretical math classes such as an intro to proofs class, abstract algebra, and analysis. I have taken every math class in the pure math major except for my capstone. I think part of choosing a college major is also about choosing what is interesting to you, so if you are interested in pursuing a pure math major, by all means do it. Proof writing was actually the part of the math major I struggled with, so it's good that I won't really need it for my career. SOU also offers a financial math major which combines math and business and also a math and computer science co-major that combines math and computer science. I still don't know how employable I will be as I have not searched for jobs after graduation yet.
I wish you success in what you choose but after getting just enough credits in mathematics to make it a teachable I switched to economics. Your grades will go up and your confidence will sky rocket. If you want to do mathematics at the university level you should appreciate the... uhm difficulty... of infinite processes... as most of the curricula out there(no matter where you go) is full of it. I recommend to choose economics and pick a cubing as a hobby. But even if you can find a small out of success in mathematics in university... you will feel like it was nothing(mainly because it seems "not real"... i can expand if you like)... the rest of the world... will think you are some kind of god... (Strange but true at this time). All the best either way. Watch: Why We Cube(documentary) as this is what you want from your mathematics education but is missing... Good luck! @@peterosudar1636 wow. thank you so much for this reply. its not often i get a response from someone who is into mathematics and can give this kind of information. But the same search for economics looks a little more open with all kinds of jobs for analyst. It seems like the better way to go in order to get me out of my nursing career.thank you

Are you glad you chose your major, or would you pick another one if you could go back in time?
Math is my passion, computer sci is just for other reason. If I could go back in time..if I could go forward in time I will get a PhD in math later
Hahaha I love this response
I’m currently majoring in Computational Mathematics (basically a hybrid of Applied Math + CS) and am planning on minoring in Data Theory :)
Best Combination:
Major in Math and minor in CS and Statistics
Better major. Major in math and stats and minor in finance

What are your thoughts on all the diversity in Math and CS?
It’s definitely difficult being a math student! Loved your personal insights :)
