These were updated with the super cloud foam mid soles in 2015. Greatly increases the comfort. Adidas has many variations of these shoes. Some are all leather, heal tab, tongue, stripes and liner. Vintage, OG, even the 80's retro versions in my opinion are of higher quality construction then these you cut apart. Like your Dad, these shoes are my fav of all time.

Yes! I bought my first in 2008 and I still have it believe it or not if the tread wouldnt broke under my ball bc the rubber got old and went into some hard plastic, it will be still perfect. It gave up around 4 years ago. So I used that for 10 years, a lot. But the new ones are much lighter too. One of my old one is kinda the same weight as a pair new one. And not to mention the new ,,leather'' which isnt half as durable as it was on the 2k. Now it is only 3-4 years max and have to buy a new one bc inner sole breaks around my heel and the sponge comes out even if I lace up and down everytime etcetc. Miss those old ones for sure!

I’ve actually been looking for answers from someone who knows adidas superstars. I bought what seems to be a superstar foundation in scarlet red, noticed that it has the blue foam inside. I skate them and they seem comfortable. However, when i went to a local retailer, I saw some superstars on shelf and peeked under the insole only to find out that it’s just hollowed out rubber and no foam. I’ve trashed my pair and I’m hoping to find another superstar with that blue foam. It helps with impact protection. Could you tell me which superstar model I should look for if I want that blue foam? My faves! I searched your channel to find out why they are great. I'm in grandpa's age now and I had a pair in the late 70s. I played basketball in them and they were the best (but, of course, fell for all the advertising and tried everything). Then, they became river shoes, you river tubing and jumping off of cliffs, for years and years. I wear them today. I posted to say that the vintage shoes were better. They formed to your feet and the leather kinda grew with age. I could make a mile-long list of sneakers that I wore and only found 2 pairs that were the most comfortable, great for sports, and durable shoe. It is the Superstars and Reebok BB5600. Reebok made a vintage limited pair and I bought it quick! Thanks, for the breakdown.

Ciao Anvil, I think You have dissected a low price version, from the same model there are different quality, design and structure variations. Some have the original 70's design, leather lining, leather tongue, slimmer look - Some models have been made little stronger and chunky for skateboarding - Then you have some premium versions made with extra refine craftsmanship and on the other side there are, some really cheap ones... and also a "vegan" one using ecoleather... and prices vary a lot in some cases. Also the places where they are made vary according to quality. So I think you should chop them up all and run a series just on Superstars. Vintage will be so interesting too and not only for superstars. Thank for your "Shoe-chopping" videos i find so important. In my opinion your idea it's something that, from now on, should keep shoe makers incheck, on what they are doing and custumers more happy and more conscious understanding on what they are buyng.

Man, there's so many sneakers I'd like to see cut apart, even though I don't expect most of these.
For running shoes, it might be fun to get a little bit of the history by cutting apart the Mexico '66 (since the New Balance Trackster is hard to find, and these are some of the earliest mass-produced running shoes), the Nike Cortez (which Bowerman created with the jogging for health movement), Nike Tailwind '79 (invented the Nike Air tech), New Balance 990, Adidas Ultraboost, Hoka One One Clifton, to some of the carbon-plate stuff today (pretty much all of 361 degrees, the Nike Next% and Alphafly, Adidas Adizero Pro, Hoka Carbon X, and the Saucony Endorphin pro -- and endorphin speed for the nylon plate). Then you have the three biggest natural foot running shoe companies: Altra, Topo Athletic, and Inov-8. I'd really like to see how the Metatarsal flex that Altra advertises compares to other shoes. You also have Newton shoes with their partial toe-plate designed for forefoot running (i.e. good running form).
For Basketball, with Jordans, Chucks, and Superstars done, you need to get to the Puma Suede, Reebok Question, Reebok Shaqnois, and Converse Leathers, for a few more of those classic basketball silhouettes. Maybe add in some later cutaways of Jordans, the Reebok Answer, and a pair that people actually wear.
For Misc, I'd love to see what make Uggs comfy, and a comparison between the "crossfit shoes" (Nike Metcon, Reebok Nano, and Nobull) could be a fun comparison. Nobull would be the best since they actually do have leather shoes, and I'd like to see how their quality stacks up.

This video is the reason why just today I bought my first pair of superstars, I recently had an Achilles tendon surgery and seeing this video learned what's inside of them and help me to buying. Thanks!!

Would you consider cutting open an Alico Summit boot? They are a traditional Italian Norwegian welted boot that is sold on Sierra trading post. They typically only run for $170 which is insane considering the traditional way that they are made.

I'd be interested to see you do a video on one of New Balance's 990 line shoes (992, 993, 990v5), as they have a bit of a cult following among sneakerheads for being really comfortable, made in the USA, and having good quality materials.

Nice to see or watch this video. My wife just bought a pair last week, made in Indonesia, worth about $110. This video gave her the assurance of the quality of this "iconic Adidas Superstar". Thank you.

It would be interesting to see you compare to an early noughties pair of Superstar II. They had metal lace eyelets and in my view, considerably better quality materials. They were near indestructible!

It would be interesting to see you cut in half less known models from Adidas and Puma. Unlike the Stans and AF1s, it feels more likely to find some nice leather being used. And at cheaper or the same prices too.

This construction doesn't seem to be universal and there still seem to be some out there without the foam midsoles. I just saw some superstars at Sam's Club for a surprisingly low price and while the outsides were identical, when I checked inside they had the rubber outsole with the raised cells like the Stan Smiths covered by a thin textile material instead of the blue foam.

  • @ruedreyn
    @ruedreyn 3 роки тому +2

I love Superstars, own multiple pairs, and that foam insole isn’t actually in all of the modern versions. I’m not sure how they decide which pairs get them but I have at least two pairs, released in the last year, that don’t include it.

  • @kountrklchr205

I still have a pair of these in black from 2002. Like most things, they were better made back then than now. The leather is thicker, the shape of the shoe is different, they had arch support which made them way comfier than a new pair of these. Side to side, new ones look like a fake version. I returned the new pair I got. To me they're not worth what they cost.

  • @jamessouthworth1699

I remember when I got my first pair of Adidas superstars, back when they were still made in France and had a suede leather insole. Unfortunately the inside liner around the back of the heel was vinyl back then and split pretty quickly. So while they no longer have the suede insole I don't miss the vinyl around the inside of the heel.

Grew up with this shoe back in the 90’s and 2000’s as a true Millennial. Still have a pair I bought back in 2005. I love it because it’s a classic, you can wear it in every season. Comfortable. Kinda water resistant and easy to clean. Only con for me, is that the sole is quite slippery when wet, or ice.
