Unhappy with her Idol career, Miku met with management and expressed an interest in both cool music and maids. They suggested it might be interesting to combine the two things. Saiki was signed to the same management company. They sent her over to audition for the vocal role. Also, the music for the first three albums, other than the song 'Alone', was written by people other than the band. BAND-MAID are great, but you don't have to rewrite their history to pretend it all happened organically.

They were not with Platinum Passport, the management company Miku proposed the idea of a rock band in maid outfits to. They didn't suggest the idea to her, she suggested it to them. She signed a talent contract with them based on her idea and her resume. While the agency did post a recruitment notice for band members to join her, Miku found Kanami on the Internet. Kanami was already friends with Akane, who was already friends with MISA. The agency had very little to do with this, although they did give their approval of the members and provided some level of support, including their early songs. Saiki was the only member actually found through the agency, as she was already signed with them. So yes, there was some agency involvement, but you're giving the agency too much credit and the band too little credit in the whole process.

This is what she said in her interview in "The Day Before World Domination" visual book (21 Jan 2019): -While having the determination of pursuing music seriously, you still did not think about starting or being in a band, at that point in time, right? So, how was BAND-MAID formed? With the determination to pursue music seriously, I tried all sorts of experiences and got to know more and more people. Through these connections, I received an offer to participate in the formation of an "underground idol" [idol groups that do not have mainstream exposure] group-po. With that, I was active as an underground idol for about 1 year . But, while singing cute idol-type songs, I felt "No… this is not it"-po . I didn't hate it, but it was more like I realized that "this is different from the music that I aspire to do". So I quit being an underground idol after 1 year of activity and sent my resume to our current management with a request to do the type of music that I wanted to do. I received a reply of "let's meet up once to have a discussion". During the actual discussion, we talked about what I had done up until then, and I was asked "Are you interested in bands, or something similar?"-po. I replied "Well, I like bands, and I am admire Tokyo Jihen. Also, I prefer to do cool music rather than cute music. But, I also like maids." Then, they said "Combining a band and maids would be interesting."
This is the song that saved Band Maid. Their first album bombed, as their record company insisted on making them a pop rock idol band. Thrill was the B side to a single no one remembers now, released before they went in to record their 2nd album. I guess the record company figured, "eh let them do this b-side. We're gonna cancel them anyways. " Instead, someone from the UK featured this video and they bumped up a million UA-cam views in 4 days.
I think the A-side song was "Ai to Jonetsu no Matador". It was actually a decent song, but the ladies were of course correct to choose "Thrill" for the video instead.

Ironically, someone had posted this video on a Black Sabbath group that I’m a part of! I figured wtf I’ll check it out! I only wanted to see girls in maid outfits! The moment the song started out I was blown away! I’ve been a Maidiac since early 2016 and I have never stopped, they’ve become my favorite of all time!!
There was no taking the guitar off again for Miku after appearing to play one here in their debut video, although I've read that she wanted to drop it early on. It is amazing how much she has leveled up over the years, but then again she does have a Mincho cheat code in her pocket.🎮

Most people likely have never heard of them, yet they sold out every venue on their last tour through the United States and Mexico. They also were the first Japanese female band ever at Lollapalooza. You seemed mildly impressed and curious. So was I, after two or three songs. However, Band Maid’s musical catalog is exceptionally diverse and unique. This is the first Band-Maid song I heard a couple of years ago, and I've been a fan since that day. I think that was around the time Miku learned to play guitar, as you can see her just holding it in this video. The maid costumes have evolved over the years, especially for Saiki and Misa.

By the way, "Thrill" was the song and video that sved the band from being disbanded by their management company. The rest is Band Maid history. Their more recent releases are "Schambles", their official music video which was commissioned to be played for the ending credits for an anime fight video. One video that is on UA-cam is a two-song clip from their one-hour performance at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago this summer. The two songs are "Dice"/Hate?". During "Dice", there are great solos from Misa, the bassist, and Kanami, the lead guitarist. During the interlude between the two songs, Akane, their drummer, kept pounding her drum kit, seamlessly transitioning into "Hate?". During "Hate?" there is an EPIC "call and respond" "conversation/duel" between Misa and Kanami. All the bandmembers loved it, the audience loved it and went wild, and the internet has certainly lived. It has gone VIRAL. Another live video you can react to from UA-cam is from one of the many fan-cams from their 10th Anniversary Tour finale. Yes, Band Maid has been together for ten years and have recorded over 120 songs. In Japan, fan-cam videos are not usually allowed. But Band Maid got permission to let the audience record their performance of the song "Choose Me". During "Choose Me", Saiki, the lead singer, and Misa, the bassist walked around a walkway that circled the entire arena floor, while they were singing and playing. Kanami, the lead guitarist, went around the opposite side of the stage on the walkway over the audience. Unfortunately, she could not complete the circle, because she had to rush back to the stage to complete her solo. The enthusiasm of the 8,000 plus people in the audience was very transparent. The Band will be releasing a DVD of their 3 1/2 hour concert this coming summer, but you can download the livestream performance of the concert before December 24th. That livestream will document how far these talented and wonderful young women have come in ten years. They should be a model for any young female to see and emulate if they wish to get into rock music. Please spread the word about Band Maid to all of your friends (male and female).

This is the Band Maid I loved when I first saw them. This song is the style of rock I love. People have suggested you react to their newest "Shambles". In my opinion "Thrill" is heads and tails a better song than their new stuff. I lost interest in this band when they went to virtuoso playing and constant use of double bass drum patterns. BAND MAID FANS: this is my taste in music and only my taste. Love the band.👍
Thrill was my introduction to this awesome band and to this day I'm impressed by their musical skills. They nail every single instrument, Saiki's and Miku's voices are terrific. Also wanna give a shout to their stage performances... on point. And gotta say, they're so pretty ♥️

I love it when a reactor comes across this particular song by this group for the first time. And so many of you like the kid in class who put his hand up to answer a question by the teacher. Never letting anyone else get in or respond. All have to regurgitate the same story about how this song save the band. God people give it a rest. And like so many creepy middle-aged dudes talk about how they love this group. I like this group immensely, favorite group of the last 5 years. And probably in my top six or seven of all time. Growing up with the classic rock hard rock and rock groups from the '60s to the late '80s. But I love what they do I don't love them. Gets creepy hearing that from middle age dudes all the time.
I actually prefer this sound and look , but they do not play any songs like this anymore or since , I don’t like band maids chorus on almost all their songs it’s to pop /anime sounding , now I do think they are supreme musicians and super talented players , but their songs are very busy to busy a lot of the times . I like parts of every song I just never find myself loving any songs from start to finish .
Ya im kinda that way with most other Japanese bands in the sense that they are super talented but when they start singing I find it too annoying to keep listening. Only Band-Maid and Lovebites are so good I don't care if I can't understand most of what they are singing.

I love it when a reactor comes across this particular song by this group for the first time. And so many of you like the kid in class who put his hand up to answer a question by the teacher. Never letting anyone else get in or respond. All have to regurgitate the same story about how this song save the band. God people give it a rest. And like so many creepy middle-aged dudes talk about how they love this group. I like this group immensely, favorite group of the last 5 years. And probably in my top six or seven of all time. Growing up with the classic rock hard rock and rock groups from the '60s to the late '80s. But I love what they do I don't love them. Gets creepy hearing that from middle age dudes all the time.

I actually prefer this sound and look , but they do not play any songs like this anymore or since , I don’t like band maids chorus on almost all their songs it’s to pop /anime sounding , now I do think they are supreme musicians and super talented players , but their songs are very busy to busy a lot of the times . I like parts of every song I just never find myself loving any songs from start to finish .
Ya im kinda that way with most other Japanese bands in the sense that they are super talented but when they start singing I find it too annoying to keep listening. Only Band-Maid and Lovebites are so good I don't care if I can't understand most of what they are singing.
