This 'Thrill' brought to you by a recent online performance. Many began their Band Maid journey with the Music Video version years ago - there is even an acoustic version floating around that still grooves hard. I think the Maids could play it in their sleep. In terms of genre, Band-Maid calls themselves an " impossibly hard rocking maid band" . So new genre? As you listen to more and more songs you will hear elements of jazz, blues, metal, hard rock and probably more. Wonderland and Rinne are 2 very different songs as an example.
I agree this song is a groove..and a catchy one at that…while Freedom had more energy. Also Freedom was played in a real concert with fans going crazy so that probably helped up the energy. Great reaction and as others have pointed out, this is one of their older songs when the label was still writing the songs for them (both Thrill and Freedom). In the years since 2016 (their album "Brand New Maid" released in 2016 featured the first song written by the band, "Alone") they have had more freedom to write their own songs and now write all their own songs. They have been progressively getting better with each new album (latest album, Unseen World released Jan. 2021).
Although this live version of "Thrill" is great on it's own, I think the more appropriate version you should have reacted to is the MV. This is the song that introduced BAND-MAID to the majority of the fans. The MV has over 15m+ views for a reason. Probably should check it out for comparison. Generally the majority of their songs falls in the category of hard rock, they do bring in a lot of influences from other genres, including but the not limited to metal. Many more great songs to go, if you decide to continue your journey. Thanks for the reaction.
I love their live online concerts, but they don't really shine until they have a live audience in front of them. They need the crowd energy to pump them up. I think that is a big part of why you didn't find them as energetic in this performance. I felt the same way when viewing their last three online concerts. They have gotten used to it, and are a little more energetic with the last preformance, but I still feel bad that they are missing out on us cheering fans. I feel bad about missing out on the live in person performance as well ;-).
Band Maid is simply incredible! They can do it all and do it better than most. The two songs you have heard are from earlier in their career and are relatively simple by their standards. I still miss Kanami's "scrape" at the end....maybe they HAD to leave it out...maybe they didn't write this song. Now you have to go back and watch the original music video. Well it's hard to be energetic when you are playing only to and empty studio with camera operators. I watched this online concert and there were mistakes and vocal issues, their 2021 Feb online concert was much better IMHO, though this concert they did play "Thrill". Check out "Blooming"
This song was my introduction to them. The music video to be exact. While I much prefer the video version this one gets a bit "dirtier" for lack of a better word and that's really cool. Nice reaction to a great band!
Band-Maid, keeping hard rock alive! Connecting the past to the present! This is the song that saved the band from breaking up, which they were considering prior to the release of this mv! The original recording of "Thrill" was dropped in NOV 2014 and has over 15M views. This is a more recent recording. The song itself is actually very simplistic compared to any modern BAND MAID track. To me the girls almost look bored here ... but this was the song that saved the band when it went viral. Akane looks like she is going to take a nap :p . They actually wrote a "MIKU part" as she could not play a note on the guitar when the original recording was made. This song was not written by the girls. It was written by folks at the record company. The girls first complete solo effort alone was... "Alone" :p . ua-cam.com/video/axF56i4spio/v-deo.html Original "Thrill": ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html
Your opinion of anything comes from experience and what you have liked in the past. For myself they are a full on hard rock band that adds other genres to spice up their songs. But that is where I come from. Bands like Cream, Black Sabbath, ZZ Tops, Rush etc. But in the end you will find they are unique to any genre. They are BAND MAID. Period. Try another live like Warning from the same concert. One off the newest album.
They play this so clean because it was the first song they gained notoriety for, and they've played it a zillion times since. I have mixed feelings about this song. It's an absolutely essential part of the band's history, but it's also not as strong for me as the songs they wrote for themselves. It's a different vibe from their songs. Both Thrill and Freedom were written by other people. I hope you'll give some of their own songs a try. They're flat better. Suggest: Daydreaming (MV - Power ballad!) - ua-cam.com/video/RCaeUkrItyY/v-deo.html Blooming (MV) - ua-cam.com/video/uUt_JBMocKM/v-deo.html No God (Live) - ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html If you give even two of those a shot, I'm confident you'll be back for more.
i thought it was funny in the second verse when you said ' oh the guitarist sings too' . when BAND MAID first got going in 2013 miku was THE vocalist for the group. she decided that her voice was not strong enough for the hard rock that they wanted to play so they found saiki and that was that
@@MattFarkas that too is funny - in the original mv for thrill [their first in 2014] miku just pretty much holds the guitar like the prop that is was at the time. she couldn't play a lick ! lead guitarist kanami thought it would be a good idea if she learned to play rythym and proceeded to teach her. now she is actually fairly decent as a chord player.
She does have 5 Solo and another 6 or so co-sung songs to her credit with Band-Maid and now Cluppo. I think it's fair to say they are all good enough to be singles so I think she underestimated her own Voice which has a bigger range than Sai-chan (especially before surgery) if not as strong Having said that I LOVE the fact they got Sai-chan in.
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook and the funny thing is she sings more lead vocals on maid in japan than anything since. she has the whole 'summer drive' to herself and does whole verses in 'bye my tears' and 'forward'. and of course she also does ' big dad' by herself.i really love her voice. later
Late comment. Kanami, lead guitar and songwriter, is extremely versatile and seems to like writing hard rock bordering on metal sometimes. Recently their songs are real heavy with the guitar solos moving closer to a metal sound. Miku, founder, lyricist, rhythm guitar, probably came up with this description: “An impossibly hard rocking maid band.” I could be wrong but it sounds like something she would say.
So you've only heard earlier songs that they didn't even write. You really need to get to some of their later material. They have only gotten better since they've been turned loose to write their own music. Also, has anyone else noticed that when MISA is playing with her expressionless face she resembles the Michael Myers mask that Buckethead wears? She's a beautiful woman, but that expressionless face she often has when she's playing just reminds me of Buckethead's mask.
So far all the songs by band-maid you've reacted to are their less technical but fun songs. As good as those songs are, they have so many songs completely different in styles, complex, technical, or jazzy ballads or groovy hard rock, some exciting proggy rock/ metal songs. You can pick their random songs and you will have different opinion. Band-maid plays band-maid songs. I've long given up on working out what genre they play. 😆
you should react to Band Maid Domination Official Live Video it is amazing and especially if you like shreding or since if you like Lovebites react to their song Scream For Me daughters of the dawn live from tokyo 2019 i believe is the year the lovebites song has 14 guitar solos in it please let me know what you think
"Oh, the guitarist can sing, too." I'll skip the whole history--others tell it better--but Miku founded the band with the intention of being the singer, and recruited the others one by one. After almost all of them were together, she decided that her voice didn't have the power that was needed for the music they were making, and Saiki completed the line-up. That's when she _started_ playing guitar (taught by Kanami). If you look up the original MV of this song (which I recommend, even if it's not for a reaction), you'll notice that her guitar is little more than an expensive necklace at that stage. Now she's got a signature guitar from Zemaitis....
this was there "last video" to be made. a B side. it was then posted on a facebook group and boom. they took of. this is not representativ for what they make today. this was a song made under management. AND yes. Miku can sing. she is the baking vocal's AND the creator of the band. first she worked in a "Made Cafe" then she had a smal Idol group where they dressed up as maids ofc. then she waned a real band. when this song was released here guitar was more a prop then a instrument for here.. now she know how to play and good. look up the "sayonakidori acoustic" version. and then look up "CLUPPO" ;)

Nice one. First we like to say the genre is "Band-Maid". No doubt their sound is unique. Kanami is always change up the riffs throughout a song. Second as this was a live performance but without fans you need to react to the following for more energized videos: Domination-Live, Onset-Live, Play-Live, Real Existence-Live. MV's Warning, Dice, Rinne, Blooming, Bubble will also get you there. Don't take so long next time.lol Peace.
In case no one mentioned: this song was composed for them. And their main guitarist Kanami can sing too, she was a singer-songwriter before Band-Maid, I saw her singing with Band-Maid main vocalist Saiki in duo acoustic performance - it was beautiful. Just her voice is not suitable for heavy rock.
Thrill’s pretty much their oldest popular song, wasn’t written by them either. If you want to see what they’ve been writing recently then No God (the latest official live video on their channel) is very, very, different from Thrill.
An opinion on 2 songs ok. They have 100+. So if I listen to 2 songs from your Band I've heard it all? Not a Metal Band. The best rock and roll band in the world! They pull from metal yes. Also Prog. Punk. Ska. Blues. Funk. Jazz. Classical. Pop. Every song is different. Every album is different. They're are constantly evolving and changing. Thrill was their first big song. They didn't write it. It came from a Hollywood hair metal music publisher. That's why it sounds like early Crue. You can't PIGEON Hole Band Maid. Not a Metal Band! Keep Rocking and reacting brother. And your Band kicks ass! If Zeppellin and Rush can do albums on Lord of the Rings. Why not Zelda? Keep Rocking and Reacting Brother! Band Maid Forever! PO!😊🤘 P.S. Not a Metal Band!
Thanks Doobie! I'm not trying to pigeon hole the band, just letting you guys know my thoughts. My band is metal, but we certainly have songs in other genres. No band worth their salt really cares how "in-genre" they are, just how good the music is. Cheers!
@@MattFarkas Right on Brother! Played metal back in the 80s. It's great. Just appreciate other genres. In the summer of 84 I saw Mettalica. Heart. AC DC and Rush live! I also saw The GoGo's. Flock of Seagulls. Willie Nelson. And Michael Bolton. Loved them all. All great in their own right! AC DC was the best show. Because AC DC is maybe best live band ever! But the best musically was Bolton. His band was basically Journey. I had no idea how good he could sing. The funnest was the GoGo's. More girls than dudes and they put on a hell of a show. But Willie Nelson was my favorite. Because if you write songs that dude is a master. Keep your axe in tune and the rust off your armor brother!😊😎🤘
@@MattFarkas BTW, the second singer/rhythm guitarist, Miku Kabato, is a 810 year old pigeon, so pigeon hole is the correct term. Here's a short interview (with English subs) that provide a quick introduction of the band members and their founding story that explains this (you might want to mute the music clips as you might want to react to them at some point) - ua-cam.com/video/R4PofsQYwn4/v-deo.html
Call themselves “impossibly hard rockin maids”, works for me. This is a relatively stale performance with no audience. The song had long been dropped from their setlist. The 2014 video finally blew up (18months later?) and saved them from breaking up by revealing the international interest. Then they came to US to bigger crowds than at home, then switched to doing their own writing. Finally in (2019?) for their 4-5 stop US tour they revived the song due to “overseas” demand
There is no Band Maid without "Thrill". They were struggling to survive when Thrill was release on Facebook. In 2 weeks they had 2 million+ views. At first they thought they had been hacked, but no it was real. Another surprise for them was that nearly half the views were by Americans and Europeans. Their first overseas concert was in Seattle for an Asian Festival. Before 3000, their largest audience to date. Kanami (lead guitar) is the composer, Miku (rhythm guitar) is the primary lyricist with Saiki (singer) now working with Miku. Miku founded the band, with an agreement from her agency to create a Maid Themed band. Then she persuaded 4 strangers to wear maid costumes and play "cool music" on stage. They toured the US and scheduled to perform at a Rock Festival in Ohio in 2019. Best ROCK band in the World!!!

- Writes the lyrics - Has only been playing guitar for about 7 years. Was the singer but took a back seat voluntarily!
KANAMI TONO - LEAD GUITAR - plays PRS Custom 24 (PRS Endorsement) - Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier.
- Writes the music (one interview she states that she has a database - 2 years worth?!?!)
Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - (Black Cloud Endorsement) Orange AB200B MKIII Amps
Akane Hirose - DRUMS - Plays TAMA drums with Zildjian Cymbals - Roland KD-A22 (Possibly an Endorsement with TAMA and ROLAND)
Saiki - VOCALS - Sennheiser microphones and DPA Microphones
The original recording of "Thrill" was dropped in NOV 2014 and has over 15M views. This is a more recent recording. The song itself is actually very simplistic compared to any modern BAND MAID track. To me the girls almost look bored here ... but this was the song that saved the band when it went viral. Akane looks like she is going to take a nap :p .
They actually wrote a "MIKU part" as she could not play a note on the guitar when the original recording was made.
This song was not written by the girls. It was written by folks at the record company. The girls first complete solo effort alone was... "Alone" :p .

I think they incorporate from many styles including but not limited to rock, metal, punk, pop, and jazz
Recommending "Onset" and "Domination"..both live. Then check out Real existence, Rinne, Dice, Choose Me, After Life...there are so many
nxt domination live bro
They play this so clean because it was the first song they gained notoriety for, and they've played it a zillion times since. I have mixed feelings about this song. It's an absolutely essential part of the band's history, but it's also not as strong for me as the songs they wrote for themselves. It's a different vibe from their songs. Both Thrill and Freedom were written by other people. I hope you'll give some of their own songs a try. They're flat better. Suggest:
Daydreaming (MV - Power ballad!) - ua-cam.com/video/RCaeUkrItyY/v-deo.html
Blooming (MV) - ua-cam.com/video/uUt_JBMocKM/v-deo.html
No God (Live) - ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html
If you give even two of those a shot, I'm confident you'll be back for more.
The next song I do from them will be one they wrote. I want to hear these gals' songwriting chops!
i thought it was funny in the second verse when you said ' oh the guitarist sings too' . when BAND MAID first got going in 2013 miku was THE vocalist for the group. she decided that her voice was not strong enough for the hard rock that they wanted to play so they found saiki and that was that
Props to her for realizing her weaknesses and doing what was best for the band. However, she sounds pretty damn good to me!
When you are this enthusiastic about this band, while having listened to two imo lesser songs. Appreciation for this band can only go up from here.
The dragon cries is a song to entirely in English vocally
Two recommendations: Domination (Live) and Onset (Live)
I hope thrill official video... Not live performance 😅👍
Me too! 😅
Wro g one should have been the mv the first one they did
An opinion on 2 songs ok. PO!😊🤘
Band-Maid has no genre. Nobody can tell me otherwise once they listen to even one of any of their albums all the way through.
Great instrumentalists but my god that singers voice makes my ears bleed I find her voice so irritating.
