Love your content!! You're egg videos are great! I have a question about sulfites and steelhead. People say they don't like them? I didn't know that and have been killing steelhead all my life on the pautzki fire cure/pro cure. Does it really make that big of a difference? I just made up a batch in the pautzki boraxofire and the Fuze steelhead blend to test it out.
Yo Duane - What are your favorite hooks for salmon and then for steelhead? My guess is "raven specimen wide gap" or "specialist wide gap." OR blood run hooks in either the "skeena wide gap" or "tailout wide gap." Really looking forward to your feedback on this on what you prefer and why. (probably result driven as usual) Lately, I've been reading how good the sickle hooks are from say Matzuo or Maruto for holding fish in say a barbless system. *Maruto brand is a barbless sickle but has a ridged point on the inside of the hook which is intended to holdwhen the fish tries to slide up the hook point. The hook is easily removed when the angler applies pressure, downwards and out. VERY COOL! I know you like a size 1 and 1/0 when targeting big fish. (I have had a lot of success with 1 and 1/0 with higher landing ratios for beads and roe etc and the fish dont seem to really mind. Its more about bait presentation and all the other factors, imho) Anyway, looking forward to hearing from ya! Dan from BC
Hey Dan, Gami (Gamakatsu) make a wide gap that I have used for bead fishing Steelhead that seems productive. I have also used a size 1 or 1/0 dropshot hook for beads and bait that actually works well. It worked so good for Kokanee, I figured I would give it a try for Steelhead. For Salmon weather on the troll with bait or bobber and egg in the river, I am having great success with Gami Big River Bait, 2/0, 3/0 & 4/0 depending on the fishery. I also use it in siwash and put it on all saltwater spoons. It is a Sickle hook and when barbless definitely increases hook-up to land ratio, due to that anchor point that really keeps the hook pinned. 😉
@@FishHuntNorthwest Man oh man we think alike, haha.. I also was using a wide gap mustad hook, the red one for drop shotting to float roe and beads but for some reason, I noticed there were days where I kept loosing fish off the take. I believe its the bend of the hook and when the barb is pinched, which makes this effect worse, they just seem to fly right off. Id prefer those hooks a bit more if the point was a bit taller so they couldnt "fling off" so easily but thats me. I have noticed the steelhead stalkers guys (watched them since they started their channel), use a gama "light wire octopus hook" and not the gama "finesse wide gap hook." So just to confirm with you, are you favoring the gama "finesse wide gap" over the gama "light wire octopus" style? -I think in your video, you're showing off the "Finesse wide gap" gama, if im correct. Anyway, just trying to narrow down what the kings of the sport are doin and you would be one of those guys! Cheers, Dan
Thanks for the tip on sliding the bead back over the stopper, this has saved me a bunch of time the past few times I’ve been out.
Amazing how well it works, glad you are able to use it... Thanks for watching
Great videos again!!! You are a great teacher. Thanks
Thank You-
