Stupid question probably for fishers but I kinda just got back into salmon fishing and teaching my nephew. Use to go a lot as a kid but never really payed attention, just fished ya know. Anyway my question is why do fishers use spawn sacs as bait even tho salmon don’t eat during spawn. Years back, I remember my friends and me would just have a treble with some rubber baits and a piece of styrofoam with some weight 10inches down. And they’d just swim through it with their mouth open.
If they're chrome and fresh they're much better table fare, the more brown...the worse they get. Sometimes they can fool you but that is a general rule.
Thank You Jonathan, we have a great thing going at Fish Hunt Northwest, every Thursday evening at 6:00pm. Check us out on our Face Book page or here on our You Tube Channel @FishHuntNW
I just started catching Chinook on skein this year under floats on Centerpins. In 5.5 hours hooked 19 put 10 in the boat took 4 home. Fishing for Michigan Salmon is top shelf.
@@FishHuntNorthwest Are the floats fixed or slip? Wondering whether can still cast with a bobber stopper on the reel or in the guides on a casting rod setup, or if it gets hung up?
@@jimsomerville3924 the floats are rigged to slip. We use the Beau Mac rubber-egg bobber stops on our mono top-shot. They go through the guides just fine and work well on most baitcaster reels with no problem. I do know on some spinning reels they may hang up on the bail. Hope that helps... D-
Здравствуйте. подскажите пожалуйста, как вы привязываете к цветной основной леске прозрачный поводок ? это обязательно делать чтоб рыба не пугалась цветной лески?
You can, but you run the risk of taking forever to land the fish, or not being able to stop the fish. If you're in slow current, or big holes you'll have an easier time. The faster the current, more rapids etc - more you'll want to go heavier. We'd usually recommend at least 10-17 10-20 for chinook.
I'm new to river fishing, and the question of " River Etiquette " is puzzling to me. I've heard many theories about the proper response to some jerk that " LOW HOLES " you. Some people tell me to key the side of his Chevy, and others suggest finding the biggest rock and put through his window. Then the less invasive to let the air from his tires. Still there are those that believe in some SWEET eggs into the gas tank sends the message very well? Can you PLEASE share which of these methods have you used, and what was the BEST!!!! LOL.
That is the Mystical Secret River, just downstream from where Notellum Creek enters in. To get there, you must cross Invisible Pass. It's uphill both ways, so don't be confused like I was the first time. 😉

Just please don’t post another online blog about fishing this river like you have others in the past. I respect the passion. Unfortunately, sharing info about specific rivers, only leads to crowding.
fukking selfish people always want to keep the fishes for themself. Just dig a hole and raise your own fishes in your backyard, no crowding warranteed.

This video we did a few years ago popped up. Thought I would read through comments, as I have not looked for well over a year. Reading comments like this one makes me laugh. How long have you been fishing Ben? I have over 40 years of river fishing. My info, is my own... I don't need to repeat anyones info as I have spent years curing and fishing eggs, with successes and failures. But hey, if you feel better by throwing out pointless comments, such as this, go for it buddy... 😂😂
And waste everyone else’s time while you take forever to get the fish in. Some river gets packed with people. The heavier gear let’s you get the fish faster, less taxing on the fish and, increases the survival rate when released.
It doesn't matter what kind of bait you have you can floss those fish with cigarette butts these guys are acting like the salmon eat when they're in the rivers drives me up the wall your camouflage snagging flossing. And that fish you showed was foul hooked under the jaw.
How do you floss a fish when you're eggs are covering the hook I have been float fishing eggs for 40 years believe me they will swallow them you are just jealous or a complete beginner?
@@ianwagner4186 what you just said makes absolutely no sense eggs are soft and when you set the hook to hook smashes through the eggs in into the fish's mouth come on man I don't even think you're 18 years old but alone been fishing for 40
@@ianwagner4186 eggs are actually the flossers favorite thing because the buoyancy allows the egg to float above the bottom while the Sinker is bouncing off the Rocks which creates an angle with a 3-foot leader to be able to floss

It's believed they bite eggs to give their smolt a better chance at survival but honestly I think it's the same concept.
@Lucas Oats salmon don't eat as soon as they touch freshwater. They might bite but they don't eat, steelhead are a different story

What kind of box is that on his belt with all the egg cure in it and scissors holder ?
Flambough I found it on midway USA website.
What is the rod your using? And what is the baitcaster your using?
I’m curious about the surgical glove. I’ve see other guys wear them too and never understood why.
Keeps your scent off the eggs and keeps your hands from turning pink from the dyes/cure.
What do you think about adding bait weight for deep river coho ?
Heck yea if it's deep and fast. Or short leader and heavy weight.
I know that spot!!! Best spot on the whole damn river!

Salmon don't like the smell of human scent on their baits - this keeps that from happening.

I put hot packs in them when cold out works ausum most important the egg cures have lots of chemicals and dye in them
